DKoK Question

Hi, I'm soon to start my own Guard army and I live the idea of setting them as a combat engineering style force.

As such I've been looking over the rules for DKoK in the Vrak books. But it looks to me that the DKoK army list was designed for the previous Guard Codex so I'm wondering if Forge World ever amended the rules for the list or are they considered still valid under the rules in IA Vol. 5.

Also, if I decided to base my army on standard Guard Codex but wanted to include units of Engineers and Grenadiers from the Vraks books do you think that would be acceptable in most cases?

Thanks,

Yeah there is an updated version of the list for use with the current IG codex, available as a download from the FW website here:

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Downloads/Product/PDF/k/kreig.pdf

I know some of the stuff you can use from the DK list such as thud guns and centaurs but I don't think you can, under the rules, use the army entry for the engineers or grenadiers in an army list made from the IG codex as it slightly unbalances things. However grenadiers are essentially stormtroopers and the engineers can be played as vets as I have seen some people do. Nothing stopping you using the minis with the rules from the codex. Plus I'm sure most opponents if they're decent sorts would let you play using the rules from the DK list, I know I would.

Sappers in the Mix is always good!

depends who or what yo're playing. Friendly games? no problem so long as everyone knows the deal. Tournament? someone will have a sour face. Welcome aboard, look forward to seing what you come up with.

The guard codex is so versatile that you really shouldn't have any issues representing any form of engineer themed infantry.
Besides veterans and storm troopers, special weapon squads equipped with meltas or flamers usually do the trick when modelled right.

My plans for the basic look of the army would involve mixing standard Cadian bodies with these heads from Maxmini. I'd then add extra bitz to give the army a sappers feel.

Thanks for the updated rules, I'll have a look over them and compare them to the standard Codex.
Well I looked through both army lists and I think the standard Codex is best, much more flexible. I can used Veteran Squads and Special Weapons Squads to represent grenadiers and engineers. I'll hopefully be starting a build log of my own soon. :)

Hi, just to add my €£$ 0.02, those Maxmini heads are great but my only beef on using them is that there are five different gasmask types. Of course Munitorium officials could have brought in necessary equipment from different factory worlds and supply depots and thus the great variety in gasmasks. But if you want to use similar type gasmasks all around, the West Wind Productions have British gasmask heads and other suitable ones as well, check more here.

Anyways, great to see your project from the start, engineers and sappers theme sounds excellent!

Wow, those heads look amazing and you get more for less. I'll definitely be using those, thank you.
