The Cerberus System Said to have been named after an ancient mythical beast of long since forgotten origin, the Cerebus system lies halfway between the worlds of Ammoriss and Drogan Prime. Believed to have been settled long before the Dark Age of Technology the system is a vital and thriving source of weapons and food stocks for many nearby systems. Whilst not the largest supply system of it's kind it is no less a vitally strategic point in the greater scheme of things and should it ever fall it's loss would ripple throughout the Imperium for centuries to come. The importance of the system should not be understated however, the worlds of the Cerberus system lie in a single calm region of warp space at the center of the region of Warp space known as the Tempest of Sorrow. This vast area of the Immaterium intersects a vital trade route and without this small system of planets travel through this region would be foolhardy for even the most talented of Navigators. ![]() Orphilla Primus Home to countless billions the great hive cities stretch not only across the vast seabeds of the ocean that cover the majority of the planet but into the very skies themselves. Separate communities have evolved over thousands of years into the two factions of the Sky Born and the Sea Born. The Sky Born communities dwell on small floating hive cities, much like those found on the neighboring world of Morpheus. Dotted high above the planet's watery surface these factory cities harvest the gases that shroud much of the surface for conversion into star ship fuel used not only by local system Naval forces but by the many elements of Imperial forces within the region or stop off to resupply. The Sea Born live in the depths of the great oceans in Hive colonies that span entire sub-aquatic continental shelves. During the Dark Age of Technology these were a testament to the true ingenuity and brilliance of the human race with lush green environments, vast cities all enclose within the hives in such a way that were you none the wiser you would swear that you were stood on the surface of another world. In the many thousands of years that have since passed much of this technology has long since been lost and many of these habitats have degraded into harsh deserts or been lost altogether to structural collapse. ![]() Floating Factory Cities of the Sky Born. The people of the Sky Born are seen very much as a lower class by many of the ocean dwelling noble Houses of the Sea Born. In truth no one knows the true number of these factory cities that ply their way through the upper atmosphere of the planet seeing as many have been lost due to system failure of infighting between the clans of their people for the rights to the more productive regions of the gas fields. However, given their status they are begrudging acknowledged as a vital part of the planet as a whole because without them the Sea Born would be cut off from the rest of the Imperium. Seen as roguish and uncouth by Sea Born standards the hardy people of the Sky Born are for the most part very much a separate community but are equally reliant on the Sea Born for the vast output of food stocks and trade that they generate. ![]() ![]() The Planets of the Cerberus System Morpheus The people of Morpheus are a hardy breed even by the standards of the Sky Born. It is thought that the sky cities were created throughout the system as a means of harvesting vital gases and fuels many thousands of years ago. Where as the people of the Sky Born are fairly nomadic communities at some stage in the history of the people of Morpheus the factory ships were combined to form unimaginably vast floating cities as they pooled they were forced to pool their resources during the time of the Age of Strife. It is said that of all the worlds of the system the people of Morpheus suffered the most, the harsh environment creating many mutations among the various family lines of their people. As a result they are covered in head to foot at all times in robes, shrouds and breather masks to hide their features from outsiders. ![]() Arlik's World Lying furthest from the Cerberus star Arlik's world is a frozen wasteland. Unlike the other unified system governments of the other planets the people of Arlik's World live and die in small communities aboard huge tracked vehicles that mine deep through the thick ice the covers the entire surface of their world enabling them to harvest the ores, minerals and sea life that they depend on to survive. ![]() ![]() Tarphen Beneath the surface of the uninhabitable surface of this world lies great caverns that have been borrowed over countless generations. It is said that some of these are so huge that the build up of breathable gasses produced by the same ancient technology employed by the architects of the hive cites of Orphillia Primus gives the illusion of a clear blue sky. The people of Tarphen are bred from a culture that revolves around the herding of mighty Grox that are butchered and sent off world and is also the sole world responsible for providing troops for the Cerberus Regiments of the Imperial Guard. ![]() Castigulator Little is known of this world other than it classed as a death world. Culturally speaking it has become renown among the people of the system as the place where those that turn against the light of Him on Terra are sent to toil endlessly for all eternity. Some speculate that it may well have been at one point a penal colony but none have ever ventured to the planet's surface to find out whether the stories are true.

![]() The War Begins For unknown reasons contact has been lost with the worlds of the Cerberus system leaving many Imperial worlds in the region in peril. Without the trade and supply ships coming out of the system many Imperial worlds in neighboring systems lie in peril and scant information has been gleamed from free trader captains passing through the region. With the fate of some many in the balance the mighty war machine of the Imperium once again rumbles into action with Regiments of the Imperial guard and strike cruisers of the Astartes being mobilised into action ready for war. Sensing the vulnerability of the system other races also turn their attention to this valuable prize, war is coming. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So what is a painting campaign? This is a really simple idea that I have been knocking about for a while now that I think would work pretty well. The idea is that it is run as a very simple map based campaign much in the same way that you might run a regular forty kay campaign. The difference being that rather than playing games (which never really works online unfortunately) with every 300pts or so (not set in stone yet) of models being painted you claim a territory. The idea is that this is for all races in the 40k universe, you can either post pictures of your painted units once they are completed here in this thread or post a link to your own existing thread. It's not really a competition as such, there are no real deadlines but is a fun way of tracking your progress with your army whilst shaping the fate of a small system. Is this the kind of thing that would interest people here? If so I'll get to work on a map and get things started. Edited by Doghouse, 7 May 2012, 07:12 PM.

Absolutely great idea! This is the type of thing that I would definately need to get myself painting my minis. Unfortunately I can't commit myself to hobby projects fully before mid/end of June. Still, hope to see this idea to really blossom! |

I'd be up for this, I'm just embarking on my new Guard army as it is and I can't think of a better way to give my progress a little extra meaning.

Excellent stuff! Really glad to see some interest in this as I figured it'd be something that we can all work together on and you can tie in any background material that you want from your own armies which'll give your forces a sense of history even before they take to the tabletop. Absolutely zero level of commitment with this one though, it's one of those things that you can take part in as and when you wish and you can add to existing armies if you don't want to start a new one from scratch. And like Dave rightly points out gives you a way to chart the progress of your army and give it a bit more of a personal touch. |

I really want to add my voice by saying this is a great way to give yourself a boost. You all know I like to give my own armies background and fluff (much of which in fact helped by Steve!). I really can't stress enough just how much that helps me to give my projects purpose and direction. Really cool idea this Steve. |

Oh and this is all about shamelessly plugging your plogs as well, so like I say you don't need to post pictures in this thread if you don't want to. Something like: Here is my 300pts of Imperial Guard to claim sector one on Morpheus. [insert link here] Just make you you post the wip pictures with the standard "tale of..." type started at shot with the time on a mobile or computer type thing. This isn't so much to stop people cutting corners or cheating but to encourage people to get painting stuff that if you are anything like me has been sat in a bits box staring at me for ages. Once I get the maps off we'll kick this off and see how it goes. ![]() |

Well said mate. You've summed the crux of this little project up very well, it's intended to help support everyone who is struggling or lacking the mojo to get started on a project and set a few goals for us as a community. It's all about the members of the ammobunker and their armies. If we happen to put together some totally awesome member created background material at the same time then it's a bonus! ![]() *does the dance of joy* Brilliant, genuinely glad to hear that mate. Been far too long since I saw some of your stuff and this is an ideal opportunity to jump in mate. Cole: Excellent stuff mate! That's exactly what we are all after here, it's an opportunity to build up any background material for your guys and I fully intend to do the same. Edited by Doghouse, 29 Apr 2012, 05:49 PM.

I don't even know what I'd buy...I'm paid in 10 days...You'll be seeing stuff from me soon enough, just nowt GW related. As you are interested in community projects though, this is a great idea. I'll probably pick something up even if it's just bog standard Tac Marines or summat. |

Doghouse this is awesome! Your talents are never ending mate ! Love the rich background you have given here. It's like having your own Sabbats world but instead it has a cooler name . Love the maps & cutaway diagrams. Will defo be keeping tabs on this dude! Maybe when things turn real ugly in the Cerebus System, the Summoners might swoop in & make an apperance ?

Dorn's Padawan: Hello mate, welcome to the Ammobunker! ![]() Thanks for the support mate, you could always join in with the fun. ![]() I'll probably be using my Mantis Warriors for this as I really need to get some work done on them, this seems like a perfect opportunity to give me an incentive to get some serious work done on them. Ninja'd DaHedd: Hopefully this is just the beginnings of the setting with any luck and people will add their own stuff with their armies. Please feel free to join in if you want to.

You can count me in on this given me and Herr Dave were plotting to battle each other at next years bash anyway(well if he doesnt back out using the feeble excuse of real life yet again ) and this would make a good back drop for the battle and give me a basic structure to write fluff around.I shall be repainting my Word Bearers for this, them being an army from the dawn of the AB and with no strict monthly targets this might just be doable ![]() So The Dark Apostle Agamoth returns to spread the true faith once more* *unless a landmine gets in his way....there beat you to it Grizz
