SS Tigers vs what looked like the entire British army

Played my first Flames of War game today. 1750 points Late War. My SS Tigers against a British Infantry company with more Platoons than I had units. Also Priority Typhoons and AT guns everywhere. The photos are terrible but they were taken on my mobile as a spur of the moment thing. Scenario was Fighting Withdrawal, with me bring the attacker. Terrain was set up in such a way as to allow me to bring my entire army to bear on one area of the table at once, and all the action and photos are of that area.

First turn sees a Tiger Platoon and Wittmann push the road to the village, followed by the SS infantry in halftracks. Nothing happens in my shooting because 88s on the move cannot into dug in concealed infantry. Fair enough. My opponent brings in his Priority Typhoons and it looks like things are about to kick off with my densely packed mobile coffins.

A wild Typhoon appears!

Nerrrrrrrow..... dakka dakka dakka..... bwoosh bwoosh bwoosh... Typhoon fires everything, oh noes!

But wait! What happens? Are all my infantry and halftracks blown to bits?

One halftrack is destroyed, the passengers failed their save and die too. But from a Typhoon getting a good attack run on densely packed half tracks, I'm relieved. Now it's my turn!

Quad 2cm platoon counters with BOOLETS!

Typhoons get swiss-cheesed in short order and sent packing.

Next turn sees me assaulting dug in AT gun positions across a minefield into a dense village with tanks.

Mines and 6 pdrs manage to stall the assault at the door, with one Tiger popped and Wittmann and another bailed.

Posted Image

My opponent Ambushes his M-10s and shoots at the Tigers now milling around aimlesly in front of half the British army. This caused Wittmann and the other Tiger to be moderately inconvenienced as AT rounds patter off their front armour.

Posted Image

After this, the Tigers go it again, this time Wittmann is asploded! Oh noes! But what's this? Tank Warrior teams can survive and commandeer a nearby tank of the same type!

Posted Image

Wittmann makes his save, and runs to the nearby Tiger which made it across the minefield. The Tiger makes it into assault...

And gives the British in the village a good kicking. I stopped taking photos at this stage as assaults as pretty deadly and this was going back and forth. Eventually Wittmann caused the British in the village to retreat after the PIAT gunner failed to do anything to the tank. By this time it was almost midnight(!) and we called it there so we could all go home. Overall a great game. Lots of fun, learning a new system, and enjoyable. Lots of terrain make for fun fights, and allowed me to focus my entire army against a small portion of the British. I look forward to giving my Tigers another outing soon and will have to bring along my proper camera.

Cool battle report Bro!

Yeah, Whittman tabled over half their army by himself as you say, but then again, he did that in real life, lets face it, if your going to add noteable personalities to a historical tabletop game, might as well make them able to live up to what they did in real life.

Glad you enjoyed it as you have been banging on about it for so long.

And with your comments about Tigers being unkillable, this i already knew, why do you think you turned me off the game after collecting an entire sodding tiger company?

Yeah it was great fun and I'll be taking the same list to the Easter tournament and fighting more aliums with my lazers. It was a pretty historical battle as Wittmann did accidentally all the 7th armoured IIRC though that was against tanks and not GIANT F***ING BLOBS OF 6 PDRS.

Flames is certainly very tactical and I'll be getting more into it with my Finns soon as I've been working on those.

Oh and as I recall the unit you got most colon-rampaged by of mine were the Pz II Luchs. You know, the ones with tinfoil armour and a 2cm gun?
