Entertainment officer...Meet the gang cos the boys are here.....
having agreed to help Mol out with some terrain for the Inquivational 2012, I thought I would record how to put some interest into the games with some terrain and accesories
So a few ground rules
1- first thing to say is that there is no need huge quantities of terrain. the field of battle is 2x2 so big terrain can overwelm the board. Thats not to say that abig piece can be used but there is a need to think about playability. arew all areas of the piece accessible for example
2- While the odd ruin may be appropriate to a scenario. the inquisitor does not go running around in crater filled boombed out cityscapes. Predominantly the Inquisitor plies his trade with the towns, the hives, the underhives etc... of the Imperium and despite what 40 K may have you believe not everywhere is under siege and at war and so its often complete buidlings or structures that are needed, not bombed out hab blocks
3-there is a narative and the inquisitor will move from location to location, Hive to Hive, planet to planet. This can come accross as daunting ' just how much terrain do I need? ' and so the key is to develop terrain that can be used lots of times, in different ways without becoming stale.

I hope that the INQ28 community which is building here will join in an share their Terrain and perhaps how or where they got it.

The first area of terrain that I am working on is an industrialised area. I showed this a little while back

As a stand alone building it could be viewed as a generator building, Vent system for a Hive area and a range of other things too. on a 2x2 board this will ocuppy a fair bit of the space and will likely be the largest piece on it. However it still leaves lots of empty space. Some cover is needed so obstacles are good. and so in this instance I will be adding 2 additional structures. one will be a medium size Fuel/water tank, and the other is this

quite simple and predominantly from scrap material. this will extend the industrial feel. Again however it could be used in a number of ways. heat extractor for the poweplant, ventilation pack for a mine or underground complex, roof top plant or machinery.....

so you get the idea. so I will be posting futhere items from time to time as we approach June. However as i said I hope that others will share, even if its just a picture of something you saw that would just be cool and can provide some inspiration. :)

The "generator building" was a real treat to see at the Bash, because it really neatly evokes some of the industrialised terrain in the back of the Inquisitor rulebook. The green and brass go really well together!

With the Ammobunker Bash out of the way, there are now less than three months to the INQvitational!

Today my friends and I went to B+Q and got two 2x2 boards. The first one we're doing as a graveyard, using two Gardens of Morr.

Go post in someone's topic that you normally wouldn't
If we're looking at doing terrain then it needs to be 2x2 - is modular better for those areas not defined by narrative elements?

Certainly four 1x1 boards that could be rearranged (or a number of scenic elements that can be placed on the board) are better. That's what Andy's doing. We've decided to make the graveyard static so that we can build the board easier - but I certainly think that the bulk of the boards ought to be as changeable as possible.

Graveyard looks bloody brilliant! Makes me think of the part in Malleus where Eisenhorn and his warband go to take down Beldame Sadia :)

Thanks for the positive vibes, Chris!

Found out today that I've managed to score a set of the Zone Mortalis for free... will update you on that in a couple of weeks when I get my hands on them! (It's all a bit hush hush!)

Hello folks , first time Ammonbunker post , usually reside on dakka , just having a nosey and Molotov pointed me in this direction , I have been working on a diorama / inquisitor board , predominantly a diorama , but kinda thought it could be used as a gaming board also . I don't really game , though not through want of trying ;-) lol Its based on a horror Frankenstein hammer theme , but its still wip

Like the idea of inquisitor scenery , small and compact , with plenty of gothic heart. ,

Thats a pretty sweet terrain board!

I see a pair of warbands being chased onto the table by zombies, and slowly encircled within the confines of the tower,
hoping for rescue on the only patch of high ground...

Hey Folks , thanks for the kind words, and the warm welcome , I don't usually , make terrain for gaming on , but this one seemed like a waste if you couldn't use it . With terrain I like the design principles , beauty or function, and trying to find that balance between both.

@ Digits , cheers Mate , feels a bit weird posting in a new forum tbh , I just got used to my off dakka blog , but a friend has nothing but positives to say about ammobunker , so I thought i would see what I was missing , turns out quite a bit .actually , I didn't realise there were so many INQ28 warbands out there.

@Tychoaught many thanks , sounds like a cool game , I had envisioned a lone inquisitor with a band of feudal villagers taking the tower from a dark mechanicus renegade , after destroying his monstrous creation ..of course ;-)

@ Old guard many thanks , i really like your description of gaming scenery at the start .. do you play INQ28 also ?

@pdh :D

@ Molotov ;)

I'm not sure how I feel about the amount of inspiration kicking off in here

*writes off plans for the weekend*

Andy- this terrain looks perfect for inquisitor, and will slot into your excellent existing 40k stuff too, I guess: get in. Are you planning on painting them with green flock over brown, or another scheme?

Neil- loving your work, and the (even more) atmospheric shots on your blog- I'm not sure what it puts me in mind of but it's just ace. Do you have your next project in mind, or do you wait for inspiration to strike?

Mol- is that you on the forgeworld page halfway out of a window with a sack on your back? Difficult to tell with the balaclava...

(yet)
I'll hold you to that!

Today I managed to build a nifty statue for the graveyard. My friend Darren has been working on it too - so we should have a fair amount to show you at the weekend, hopefully.

Many thanks to Jon (RiseoftheMagi) for the offer of a tree. Actually, I was being offered trees by several people, but I don't need that many! :$

More to come soon...

Neil101:

Great stuff man! That is an evocative board you have created there and I can't wait to see it finished. It reminds me of the feeling I got as a kid looking at some of the darker artwork back in the Rogue Trader days.... I love the combined gothic low tech with the 40k sci fi feel. I want my Inquisitor to run rampant through it... :)

Molotov:

How did you manage to get a set of the ZOne Mortalis for free???

I have to say that being a member of this forum really makes me want to move to Britain. I want to play Inquisitor with all you guys. i have no one to play with here!
