OK, this old chesnut once again fellas. Right now we have a compo running with only one active entrant!!!! With luck, he may just win it! B)

On a more serious note, we have a compo running with only one active entrant.

If you have put your name down in there for this one, please go and give the guy a little run for his money.

So. In order to help Jase out, I'm going to jump back into compos and help jolly peeps along....................BUT...............before I do so, I want to know what YOU want in order that it tweaks your nipple enough to get you interested?

Comments please.

Well mabye a convert/kitbash and paint contest. Mabye ratings on the conversion/kitbash and on the painting. Could have themes along the lines of: Renegade, Freebooter, Mercenary etc. Leaves it fairly open with still having a nice constant theme throughout.

Always like to see a nice Duel entry that has a lot of motion and character so mabye one of them.

Just my ideas.

Also one thing to think about:

Most folk tend to plan their hobby buys longer term now given the state of economy/cost of living etc.
If I know in 2 months *Tau* are being released I'm going to focus on saving for them. having a forecast of what comps are coming up to a reasonable time ahead would be of great help.for example a simple "monster" comp given notice last month for june just as the rumours of plastic nids this month were found true would be great. I knwo you can't take every future release as gospel but something like "civil war" for around a month after the ned 6th 40K/DA codex hits in summer would give great scope especially as there will most likely be a surge in interest and new plogs around then.

regarding com von drakes idea it's the way my gw runs compos - first month is a building/converting competition with a vote, second month is painting your entry.

...tread-headedness, no real themes besides unit types.

Although you should probably plan one for that little jousting thing you're preparing.

To be brutally honest I just dont find myself with enough time or drive for the hobby to complete projects ive had running for ages/new ones like my necrons - starting another project (one mini counts as a project at these rates) just isnt viable for me I'm afraid...

Kinda lost my mojo for this comp tbh as there is a distinct lack of competition. Ah well I'll solider on and see what comes up at the end of the month.
I thought the concept of this cop was a great one. But being primarily a modeller and collector rather than a gamer I thought this was just up my street. If people want comps to tie in with their current army or game then I understand this one isn't very relevant. A comp that focuses on g-w latest releases would be more in line with what people what I think though I think thats a bit boring as everyone's models would be very similar.

Competitions that focus on NON GW every so often.

I like the idea of a list ahead of time so that ideas could be discussed and enthusiasm generated. More individual model competitions rather than vignettes.

Looking at the polls from last year here's the completed entry totals.

Jan - Armed to Teeth - 9 complete
March - Henchmen - 4 complete
April - Kill shot - 4 complete
June - Poster boy - 3 complete
July - Objective marker - 6 complete
Aug - out of ammo - 6 complete
Sept - Warp done it - 6 complete
Nov - Airborne - 4 complete

Well if your suggestion is to do comps based on GW releases then the opposite is what I'm suggesting.

Keravin I don't get how any of those comps you listed were GW models only? And since when has Flames of War (FoW) been a GW product?

Many games systems use Objective Markers, why would that be GW only? Out of Ammo - again this could be any number of game systems, as could the rest.

We always try to make the competition theme as universally applicable as possible.

I never said those comps were for GW models only. But in a discussion where one of the suggestions is that some competitions be themed to GW release schedule that's the reason I made my suggestion. However looking at the forum it is clear there is still a GW bias so ACTIVELY doing something that goes for non GW is a way of highlighting this is not just all about GW. You know doing it positively.

The majority of posters here do not step outside of GW. Just looking through the plogs should be an indication of that.

I don't see why that is a problem though? Yes the majority on here are GW product users first and foremost. We aren't out to tell people otherwise. I for one only play GW and FoW. I have no interest in anything else, but I can appreciate how others do.

Yes there may be times where the competition is GW centric, because it appeals to the majority. But for the most part we will endevour to ensure that as many games systems as possible are included. If you don't wish to enter a GW product into a competition, great, we encourage it.

We are not an intentionally GW centric forum, but neither are we exclusive to any games system. We welcome all, it just so happens that GW is the biggest wargaming game and model producer out there, and its what the majority play.

Deadley I love those pics! And a "real life" situation using models is a great idea!

Gav - then I would hope you're going to argue as vociferously against a GW release theme competition.

I don't get what is so bad about once in a blue moon trying to expand some horizons, particularly as the competitions are in a general part of the forum and not in a plog that someone has to actively choose to go into.

It was a positive suggestion and the competition totals was an attempt to be helpful and see if themes had any effect on turnout.

I get what your getting at Keravin, honest. I just kind of fail to see how the previous competitions are so GW centric, which seems to be what you are suggesting, by saying that in future they should be more broad ranging.

And no I won't argue against any GW release theme comps we might do, as I believe they will be popular competitions. Think about it, DE were released and a whole host of DE logs appeared. GK were released and a bunch of related logs appear. I am not saying GW themed comps will be common or the like. But I see no harm in having one every now and again.

Personally I don't see why its an issue. I know you have issues with GW, but you do still buy their models and maintain armies using their models. I would understand if you never ever bought GW models that you would be left out by a GW centric competition.

But its a valid suggestion, and we will ensure to the best of our ability that competitions are available to all.
