A journey into Infinity; Si and AWOL joint plog

Once upon a time there was a dashing Dane (that would be me, btw), who found this page.
Having a weak will, he ordered two starter sets, but realising this was not enough, used his barbed tongue to tempt the cunning Englishman (Si/Maelstrom) with promises of a joint log and much hobby glory.
Gradually did the Englishmans will weaken and then did he crack and order a starter set. The foul Dane pleased with his handy work did cackle in his lair at his latest victory only to be thwarted by the royal mail.

Introduction by Si, edited by yours truly. As most of you who've gotten this far have realised, I got the infinity bug during December. I ordered my first starter set (nomads) from Maelstrom on the fifth, talked Si into getting one as well (Yu Jing), and... waited. In vain. Then I ordered another starter from a different retailer (Ariadna) so I could persuade other people to play (that would be you, DullMohawk. And no, you don't get a say in the matter.), which also failed to materialise, until yesterday that is.
Since we now both have our first models, we've decided to start a joint plog to show where we're going with them.

Anyhow, since plogs are pointless without pictures, here's a pic of the starter:

I've based the models, who've now got a date with a can of white primer:

Of course, not ten minutes ago the mailman came with my order from Maelstrom. After I wrote them and asked if they'd had the package returned or anything (after a month I was getting a bit impatient) they kindly resent my order for free.

Of course, the mailman came with both packages at the same time, so I'll get cracking on some nomads next. :)

Well that was an introduction :P

I've been waiting to start this log since early december seen as my order came through 2 days after it was placed much to the annoyance of a certain Dane ;)

So though Rasmus will claim me buying a starter set as a victory, the truth is I have been tempted by infinity for quite some time he merely pushed me over the edge haha.

So this is what I went for:

Yu Jing seemed like a natural choice as you combine chinese and japanese culture with sci fi and power armour and well your onto a winner. Originally I was goign to get the Haramaki Zensenbutai set but instead went for the imperial service starter for the variety of models in it. The Zensenbutai are still on a to get list though :P

So onto some progress, Rasmus showed me the bases he had gotten for his and well me being a cheap [arse] I decided to try and replicate tehm instead of buying them:

and one painted up:

rather pleased with them.

The plan for the troops is urban camo theme, so digital camo on the fatigues and largely shadow grey armour with some orange accents as a nod towards the "studio" paint schemes as seen on the box.

Thats all teh progress I have got for now, however I am working on a celestial guard to test out the scheme so pics soon :)

It will be interesting seeing this grow. There are quite a few of the infinity minis I've liked the look of. Never had the bottle to go buy some though.

Good luck Si, always nice to see you still interested in the hobby ;) Hobo.

Go on James you know you need yet another distraction........... ;)

And hobo how dare you, also since when were you a Mod  I mean your a functioning alcoholic how can you be trusted to deal with the serious business of the interwebz ;) :P

And to prove I'm working on these alongside the heretek (Thats right James I'm working on 2 things at once :o ) here is a paint in progress pic of one of the celestial guard:

I'm hitting a bit of a brick wall with it, I cant find an armour colour that compliments the digital camo I've attempted on the fatigues. Any one got any suggestions?

Bugger, you beat me to it with the first painted update in the thread...

Good progress on the celestial guard, as for the blue armour I'd probably just go for a simple highlight, maybe taking it all the way up to white?

I've gotten my Ariadna force started, with one of the Kazaks as my first victim:

The white stripes on the uniform was supposed to be camo, but I'm not overly enamoured of how it's looking, even if it's a bit better IRL.

I also got a space-scot started:

Hell, I might even get something done today - I've finally gone on vacation!

Maelstrom: Have you tried Adeptus Battlegrey/Shadow Grey with Codex/Ghostly grey fineline edging?
I think what your looking for is a blue-grey color.

Gah the Dane paints surely a sign of the impending apocalypse :O ;)

that kazak is looking rather nice sir, is that NMM on the rifle that I spy? The camo is looking good i think if you added a darker colour to contrast against the white stripes it might help though :)

Mmm that is a rather good sounding recipe I shall give it a crack, cheers sir :)

Hmm, I might try adding a darker colour. Tell the truth, I'm more inclined to simply keep the next couple of guys plain green, and repaint this one after the others are done, but I'll give it a crack, it sounds like it could work. :)

And no, no NMM, just highlighted grey. Last thing a soldier wants is something big and shiny to carry around after all, and these are space russians so practicality is the order of the day.

One more model done-ish, I might fiddle with his face after seeing these pics.

And yes, I know that he's got true metal weapons, instead of matte grey that I used on the previous guy. I figure that it's justified since he's using personal weapons (I think) instead of army-issue. And I wanted to, so that makes it alright. :)

Next up: Probably a Veteran Kazak.

That's very nice. Tartan's good and the x symbol sells it nicely.

Cheers Keravin. :)

And yeah Gav, that's a space-you. :P Part of the backstory to Infinity is that the first interstellar colonyship, with Russian, Scottish, American and French settlers (plus a military detail) got lost. They were promptly written off as a loss, but managed to survive anyhow, and is proper angry with, well, everyone about it. And for trying to move in with superior technology when they managed to reconnect with the rest of humanity.

And yeah, I considered doing his sideburns ginger, but I decided it was a bit of a cliche at this point. :) I'm pretty sure there's got to be at least ONE Scot with brown hair.

Erm me?

And cheers, I'm hovering dangerously over a wayland "buy this cool stuff now" shopping cart button of £44 of doom.....

Stopping at only £44 worth of Corvus Belli models... what a novel idea. I'll have to remember that one.

I'm looking at these: Zouaves Sniper, Ariadna Moblots (Sapper) HMG, Ariadna S.A.S (Boarding shotgun), Scout Sniper, Scout (Ojotnik), Ariadna - Zouaves (Sapper - HMG), Ariadna - S.A.S. (Chain Rifle). I've no idea how they play in the game, the figures just look really cool.

From the two proxy games I have played to date, there really is no "list" per say or requirements for building a crew. I do know you need to nominate one of the models as the "Lieutenant", but that can be anything from a TAG to a lowly grunt.

I like your choice of models, the Moblots (strange name) and Zouaves are awesome looking.

Gonzo, you've more or less got a 250 list there, you just need a lieutenant, and maybe a few grunts since that's all special stuff as far as I know. There's an online army builder here, it works very well indeed and all the model specific rules are linked to their wiki.
Definitely one of the best online resources I've seen for a while.
And yeah, those are some nice models. I'm very taken with the SAS and the Zouaves meself.

FireStorm: I've had a chat with some guys over on their official forums (nice people, btw), and while the lists are very open you still have a couple of factors to keep in mind: Some models have an availability cap, meaning that you'll only ever be able to take 3 moblots unless you houserule it, for instance. Besides that, every model with a "special" weapon, like a sniper or a ML, costs a certain amount of SWC, special weapon points, so you can't field an all-sniper force for instance. Also, certain models can't be lieutenants.

Again, the online army builder takes care of all that and verifies the list for a certain amount of points. Did I mention that I like it? :)

Also, here's the vet kazak:

Apologies for the image quality, they got taken in a hurry before I had to be out the door.

The next update won't be for a while, I've just moved back to Copenhagen into my new apartment. That means that all my stuff is either in boxes or in a town 120 km away, making it a wee bit hard to work on it. On the plus side, once I get it here, I'll have my hobby corner back. :)

Looking good AWOL.
I have add'd several of the Infinity models to my wishlist. They seem so nice models, and with some modification I recon they could easily work in a 28mm inquisitor game (or if you feel rich a small warband). :D
