In my life long quest to paint less but play more, I have been drawn more and more towards skirmish games. Now, this wont stop me from painting up hordes of figures for my other projects (see my ImagiNation one), but every good painter should have at least one side project that has a low model count so that he/she can see the product of their ongoing work.

I poped down to my local gaming store to pick up some random P3 paints and models and there sat on a table two copies of the Infinity ruleset and a variety of starter boxes. Having already been given a pack of these fine 28mm figures from Spain at a demo game, I thought nothing of it. Later that day, with Infinite thoughts in my mind, I sat down at my painted desk and pulled out the box of "45th Highlander Rifles, Galweglan" and started to assemble them.

Now the only thought going through my mind was "Holy crap, these are some really really nice models". The next day, I went back to the gaming store and picked up the 2nd Edition of the rules.

Plans as they stand right now (and knowing my wargaming habits, these wont last past month 2) will be to paint up a 100 / 150 point crew and get at least a game a week in.

I hope to update this PLog not only with painted models hot from the work desk, but also with some pictures of the games played, in a way, forcing me to actually go through with my weekly game of Infinity...

Sounds good to me.

I'm sort of getting into Infinity myself at the moment, where "sort of" means "Buy the prettiest models, hope a legitimate combination appears, then try to coax others into getting their own so games can happen."
Frankly though, they're such nice models that I wouldn't be disappointed if they ended up only prettying up my display shelf.

Bear in mind, a lot of the stuff only appears in the Human sphere expansion. You don't need to rush out and buy it right now though, as you can find the actual rules and unit entries (minus the art and fluff) for download at the Infinity website.

My local store had the Human Sphere expansion as well, but I figured might as well get a dozen or so games in with proxy models before committing another 50$. Then again, you can never have to many rulebooks laying around and the Infinity ones are some of the nicest I have seen yet.

The official start of this project: 4 assembled "45th Highlanders"

Infinity's fun, the few games I've played of it. It'll be good to see more of it around on here. I look forward to seeing some progress.

Hah, awesome. I'm about to start an infinity log myself. Good to see that I'm not the only one who thinks they're ace models. :)

Off to a good start too, will you be using only the scottish models, or are you going for a regular mixed Ariadna force?

Only scots models for me. I've always wanted to paint 28mm scots and now that I only have to paint 10-15 models, why not?

I'm thinking of painting up a crew for my fiancé but dont have a clue what to choose, advice?

I'll have to admit that I haven't got much experience with Infinity, I only just started myself. But what does she like? I went for nomads and ariadna, the latter mainly because of the claymores and SAS.

Right, well, I have decided upon painting up a PanOceania crew for the fiancee, she liked the looks of the models, sci-fi meets teutonic order. I was hoping she would say something like Haqqislam, because painting the PanOceania models make me nervous. Never painted these kinds of models before.

On the actual project front, not much work. I don't really like the GW style bases, much preferring the non-beveled edge and wooden bases I usually use. After trying to Green-stuff the bottoms of the ones that came with the models, I gave up and pulled them off. Leaves me to make some custom city style ones...

Scotsmen? Interesting! From what i can make out on that photo, I do see kilts, so... what tartan are you planning to do? A generic one you've made up, or will you be aiming to 'recreate' a real life one, or are there ones you can take from tha (rather nice looking) rulebook?

Not 100% sure right now on the tartan. I could use my own clan's (MacIntyre), my regimental tartan (Mackenzie) or just make up my own. I'm thinking having a tartan with a red base would make for a nice contras with the rather grubby/dirty look of a Scotsman.

Sorry about the off-topic, but to save you from perhaps giving people the wrong impression, I should point out that it's fiancée if it's a she. It varies with gender in the same way as blond/blonde.

Quick update on my painting progress. In the final stages of finishing the tester model with a second only a couple of stages away from completion. I failed hard on my goal of playing a game a week in the first week of this project, had to much school work on my plate for the weekly club night at my university.

The claymore, dirk, gloves and boots still need a little bit of work, as does the base for said model, but I ran out of wooden bases, so I'm having to wait until a friend drops some off.

My camera does not really give to much justice to how the tartan turned out. For some reason it really blows up the size of the horizontal lines.

That scotsman is looking sharp, it is a lovely sculpt.

How is the rulebook, btw? I've been considering getting it next, so I can read up on the fluff. Just haven't been able to justify spending 27 quid on it yet...

And PanO does have some very nice models, but I can see what you mean about them being different from these. I dunno if it helps, but I found a tutorial from an EXTREMELY talented Spanish painter on the Spanish forum: http://www.infinitythegame.com/foro/showthread.php?tid=3835
In my humble opinion he really nails the PanO look, and Google Translate gets me a decent translation of his text.

They are fantastic sculpts, but there are only two different bodies for the four models that come in the box, a bit annoying when you want to have every model be unique. Metal is a pain in the [arse] to convert and I'm not confident in my conversion ability.

Book is really nice, if you have the 27 quid to blow on it and you like reading, I would take the plunge. I don't think I will be buying the Human Sphere book, instead I will just download the rules from the Infinity webpage.

Just undertook the harrowing ordeal of slowly drilling the bottom of the models so I can pin them to the base once I finish them off.

EDIT 24/01/2012

Well, thats 1/4 models done for the 45th Highlander Rifles. All I got to do is hit it with a bit of dull coat to protect the model from possible abuse. I'm quite happy with how it turned out overall. Some of my better painting and I forced myself to use different techniques to complete it. A group of four will look rather nice on a table.

In other news, I might have to modify the title of this PLog as the fiancee tried unsuccessfully to keep a Malifaux order for my incoming birthday a secret...

Little bit of an update, finished off the base for SCOT IN SPACE!!!!!! #2. I tried my hand at OSL, but it failed a bit. The sculpt on this one's face was a bit strange, almost like its constipated... Anyway, on to pictures!

And I doomed myself walking into my FLGS wanting to look at and maybe buy the Malifaux ruleset. Half an hour of pondering later I left with two crew boxes and everything needed to start playing.

Thanks for the kind words. Your Infinity PLog is looking really good too!

Malifaux might be taking over my side painting schedule as my local gaming store just started stocking Infinity and only have a few of the starter boxes. I've been looking around for a supplier within my province of Ontario and might ether order or drop by to pick up some models next time I visit my parents.

I hate to keep bumping up my own thread, but more models painted!

Finished the last two of my 45th Highland Rifles (Why use the rifle designation if they are CQC specialists...) and have now run out of Infinity models to paint (sad I know).

I found a supply source within province (to keep the astronomically high Canadian shipping costs down) and I will probably be order a few more figures in the next couples of days. I have my eyes on adding four of the Caledonian Volunteers...

On to pictures!

Not much interest in Infinity I guess, in that case: bring on the Malifaux!

Never noticed Nicodem had a bionic leg before. Your scots look good as well, though I suspect the swords could use a black wash. Whereabouts in Canada are you?
