CoD or BF?

So the big debate on the gaming (video game) front is the whole Call of Duty (CoD) or Battlefield 3 (BF3)

So which do you prefer, if any and whey up the pro's and cons of each.

Personally;
I have only just got into the Battlefield area as some friends said I would enjoy it more.
To be honest I have enjoyed it more than CoD, as you work as part of a team for an objective
even if you are just killing the opposition. You can use vehicles or whatever. What I like about BF3
is the fact you can specialise, you can be the best at being a general all rounder and medic, a sniper
or anti vehicle. But its is very hard for you to level up if you just playing for fun.

On the other hand we have CoD;
I have enjoyed playing CoD along time now. But it is getting a bit stale for me, I know they are
keeping things new with kill streak rewards and all, but its just the same sandwich on different bread.
As I mentioned about BF3 about working in a team, yes you can work in a team on CoD, mainly if you
have your friends playing as well. All the maps are very close quarters from what I've experienced so far, so
the variety of using different weapons and outloads are quite limited.

Moving on the single player (for those who do attempt it)
I prefered the BF3 storyline, essentially (without trying to give away too many spoilers);
You were in a unit, which during an occupation of Iraq discover a case for 3 WMD's where 2 are missing.
You the find out that 1 detonates in Paris kilings 1000's. And the other is believed to have made to NYC where
you are being questioned about your actions. The whole thing ends with you in Time Square beating up the bad guy.
To me that is quite realistic.
The CoD or MW3 angle is obviously wrapping up the trilogy of the Modern Warfare saga. Now with the actions
in the last game being set in the not so distant future, the 3rd continues that. But over all the story felt rushed and the
realism of it all is a bit far-fetched. I know at the end of the day its just a video game, but I believed that the
story in BF3 could happen. In the MW3 universe.....not really. Dont get me wrong, I was sucked into the story
of MW2 and CoD4, but This last piece of the puzzle didnt do it for me.

Id love to know what everyone else thinks...

Im not going to argue about graphics etc, as each franchise use different styles or graphic production etc.

Both

CoD because its a well versed formula and most reviewers (although noone actually has reviewed the PC code yet) say that theyve balanced the g18s/shotguns from MW2.

BF3 because Ive played it online on my mates PS3 (and I'm rubbish at consoles) and I found it incredible. Not "spray spray spray kill an enemy", none of this sprinting about the map lark (which has its place). Also it looks stunning/destructible terrain is king.

Whatever you say about "different techniques" MW3 is running on the same engine as CoD4, with the same sounds/effects as MW2/CoD4, BF3 quite simply blows it out of the water graphically, the game looks staggering. Also the fact that you dont get kill streaks is awesome, I was jollying across a bridge when mortar rounds started incoming - thats not a killstreak, that's someone actually firing mortars at you.

Of the two, I'll be buying BF3 first because hell, I've got a different map pack for CoD 4 called MW2 :P

All I've heard about CoD is that its basically MW2 again. BF3 however, I like very much. I like having different weapons for either faction, meaning you have even more weapons to get the attachments for (i.e. my US engineer has a laser sight on his rifle, my Russian one doesnt). I also rather enjoy having the vehicles and everyone being on a level playing field with none of the killstreaks as Dave mentioned. if you have better weapons, its because you have put the time in to get them, not getting lucky and getting an airstrike to earn more stuff. the ribbons and medals are nice as well.

Finally (dont know if it was in before, but BF3 is the first edition I've played) I love the taking of the tags when you knife someone, even if you can't view a list of people's tags you've taken

Getting tag-knifed is so, so... so.... I feel like I just got violated.

But when I do it, it is SO satisfying! Usually because I rarely manage to actually sneak up on anyone. Usually when I do it though, it's after running across an open area ducking bullets. I usually GET knifed while trying to survey an area before crossing it.

The one thing I'm really wishing I had in BF3 is some gun stats. Because there's no way of knowing if the gun you've unlocked actually is better, or just looks different. Lots of subjective forum opinions, no hard sciences.

BF hands down, I used to play BF2 pretty heavily on my laptop and I've played both the bad company games. To me it utterly destroys CoD it looks a hell of a lot better, far larger maps, vehicles, realistic touches like bullet drop on long range shots and as others have said it involves working as a team not just running around with a shotgun killing everything.

Also because the maps are so big you can't have 1 guy camping in the same spot (that you have no way of avoiding) for the entire game racking up stupid amounts of kills.

The various ways of doing things are great too, so snipers are camping in a building? you can either try get behind them, or blow the entire building up with a Tank or when you have unlocked the mortar use it to kill them whilst being completely out of sight.

I think the thing that has happened with CoD is that they have become greedy. Back when I got my first Xbox360 it came with CoD2, I think there was a 2 or 3 year gap between that and CoD3. Now they pump one out every year with little to no changes to the game play or engine ^o) . Compare this to BF3 which I think has taken 5 or 6 years to make.

I might rent MW3 just to see what the story mode is like but I'm not buying it.

Never played BF in any format but love the CoD series of games. MW2 is the entire reason I bought an xbox in the first place. Blame Riseofthemagi for that!
Would try BF2 or 3 but have very little time or money so more happy to throw it at something I know I'm gonna enjoy like MW3 than take the chance on BF as I'm a bit limited in the games I like enough to buy.

Ho, hum, really liking the multiplayer experience on MW3 though. Seems like the maps are a lot more wide ranging and varied and they've brought across some of the changes to the weapon classes that they made for Black Ops

I dont play bf anymore, i had bf2 and the 1st few times i liked playing it but it got stale very quickley. My main problem is on the consoles any of the larger maps require loads of slogging to find anyone to kill if you dont have a vehicle. I know it is a limitation of the consoles that they cannot accomodate as many players but this was a big downer for me. plus the vietnam maps completly turned me off.

I know mw3 is the same as mw2 with new maps but thats why i like the series (black ops was brown stuff from a bull.) i like the fast pace i like the story line and really if you want a fps on a console its the only choice.

MW3 all the way.

my pc can barely load this site LOL so im only comparing on consoles.

I'm still playing CoD MW 1 why??? becuse I bought it cheap on eBay. I have a MW2 on Steam but everytime I want to download it shows that I will have to wait for 9 hours. I will have to put it on during a night or something...

I too hate kill streaks... it's the main reason i die so much.

I've never played BF... not that I don't like it I just wanted to start from the first Bad Company game (I love SinglePlayer games with good storyline) and I can't find it anywhere.
If I do... I will buy 2 and 3 (if I have some extra cash).

BF3 over MW3 IMHO

BF3 story line had more epic moments and awesome graphics.......(Falling through the Sky!!!!!!!!)

MW3 story as stated previously felt a bit rushed and the only cool part I found was the end mission beginning. (I got over the sneaky 2-4 man missions)

BF3 Multi as stated is all about the squads and working together to achieve objectives and there are some pretty memorable moments in multi to like jumping of a Cliff in Rush, driving tanks, flying jets and choppers and performing a beach assault... ETC. Dice have also got all the right effects happening including the Audio, the guns and explosions sound amazing. More Playability.

MW3 Multi is the same as MW2 for me. Spawn, Run, Die or Spawn, try and be tactical and get owned by a some yobbo running around duel welding uzi's.......... It looks the same and feels the same...... Also after playing BF3 and then playing MW3, MW3 gun sounds don't seem to sound right.

Its really up to the individual buts that's my 2cents worth.

Cheers

All in all BF3 beats the new COD. The storyline in the BF3 from the tanky actions - for me - was too triggered. Can't felt the freedom what i got in the multiplayer. And in everything else i agree with the rest of you.

Well, my only online experiences with BF were 1943 and BC2, which weren't horribly robust or anything, but I am extremely tired of playing the same damn game in CoD. I think I'll take the plunge on Saturday and pick up BF3. I can get MW3 in December or more likely in the New Year when my contract is renegotiated to something much better. With the rest of my gift certificates I'm going to get the new Zelda. Between those and my other games I'm going to be just fine.

Dave38x I know I could do that... and I am (when I remember). But my internet slows down so bad when i download that it kills me. And I'm very, very addicted to internet.

Anyway i was in BestBuy today to check out some camcorders and bought BF Bad Company 2 (didn't wanted to spend money on new one and they didn't had the first one). So I will see what the hype was (some time ago). :P

I'll let you know if I'll be buing the new one in couple of days.
