Entertainment officer...Meet the gang cos the boys are here.....
I would say those are areas of repair that havent been painted yet. It's the J model so I would take a stab at battle damage.

from what i remember some of the hercs were given a coating to resist FOD demage on rough unpaved landing strips, failing that old guard may be right in that it may be replacement parts from another aircraft

Yeah that's what I thought when I saw it, mish mash of parts that just haven't been resprayed yet. The grey also looks a little lighter than the usual colour so perhaps its in the process of being stripped/repaired etc but was needed for the ex?

Some of those guys are wearing proper old fatigues there. Wonder why they weren't wearing MTP, as they are carrying the newer weapons (SA80s with tac rails etc).

MTP is only issued in theatre, and the Army has relaxed on the uniform front.

one of my mates in the Rifles is wearing a mixture of Coyote Brown, Woodland and tropical DPM at the minute, with customised camo on his rig. Starting to look like a bunch of mercs!
Oh, and the fact, DPM trounces MTP in European theatre! ;)

MTP is now issued to everyone going to theatre in the RAF, except the regiment who are in it the whole time.

As for the panels, that's pretty good by our standards. I went to a tanker a few months back that looks like it was pimped- gold, grey, white and silver. Ridiculous
