Right, I figured that the splitting up of the project logs would be a good excuse for starting a new one.

I dunno if anyone noticed it, but I've been absent from the bunker for a while now. I'd come up with an excuse, but look at my username, what did you expect?
Nah, in all seriousness, I'd lost a lot of my painting mojo, but it's starting to come back after DullMohawk managed to convince me to start Warriors of Chaos. (and what a display of persuasion - all he had to do was show me the middle of the armybook, the pages with all the models on. I may well be too easy.)

Anyway, I've traded a few models from him, swapped a couple of valkyries for a battleforce, and then Maelstrom sent me a load of models gratis - cheers again mate. :)

The basic thought is to have 2 units of warriors, one nurgle with HW and shield, one khorne with halberds, one unit of marauders with flails, 5 hounds and 5 knights, all lead by a wizard. The exact list is still a bit flexible, but it'll be narrowed down further soon.

Enough yapping on about it, time for some photos.

Wizard, who will be acting as general for the force:

Marauders:

I wasn't too keen on the gut plates on the normal marauders, so I sent these guys off to Chaotic Workout Camp to do aerobics, maybe dance a little bit of Zumba. It probably shows up a bit better on this pic:

Then Maelstrom told me to get the Avatars of War champion to lead them, and I could hardly argue after I saw him.
Posted Image

He, at least, didn't need to be sent to Workout Camp. Only problem is ranking him up, he's absolutely massive.

I've also done a couple of testers for the two warrior units:

I'm going to assume you can figure out which one is the nurgle unit and which one is the khorne. Still working on the halberds though. I thought I had a cunning plan to make them myself, but it looks like crap that's been painted metallic right now, so I'll probably start over.

That'll be enough for the opening post, I think. I'll be visiting my parents for a few days, so there'll probably not be a great deal of progress, but we'll see.

As always, any thoughts, comments or criticisms are more than welcome. :)

Those are some seriously impressive minis AWOL, you've done a great job on converting the Marauders.

The skin is particularly striking, how have you done it?

I love the armour on the bottom picture, how do you achieve that please? Good gs work too, always nice to add your own touch.

I also love the Khorne armour - nice work! The tattoos on the marauders look a bit neat mind, they also look a tad clean, but then I like my minis rather mucky! Maybes try and pick up some of the Marauder horsemen heads for them?

Love the work on the Sorceror AWOL, great skin tone and blending on the horns.

Love the Khorne and Nurgle warriors armour, great colour on the Khorne one. And that Marauder champion is madness! (In a good way)

Your painting is really very accomplished - your force already looks fantastic!

The wizard is looking very sinister (thanks to your paint job), great choice to lead your forces!

So this is going to be an army of all four major ruinous powers represented?

The Nurgle warriors look classic, yet maybe you could give them some greenstuff work there and there, third eye slit in some of the helmets etc?

The colours on armour of Khorne warriors are, just many have already said, looking splendid!

Fantastic painting all round, and well done on converting the marauders (although if anything I would rather see them slightly up-armoured :P )

Thanks guys! A bit of an overwhelming reception, posting on the good old AB is always a massive morale boost. Too bad I'm not at home right now so I can't paint. :-/

Merceus: Glad you like them, and get a log up and running with that hordes army. ;)

Burnie: Thanks mate! And yeah, I agree a bit about the armour. Thing is, these guys have no armour save, so it wouldn't really be WYSIWYG. Reason I removed the gut plate was that I think it makes them look a bit chubby. There's all this great art in the army book with awesome-looking marauders, but the models are a bit of a let down IMHO. I'll probably be making another unit with some heavier armour, most like Tzeentch aligned, to be a bunker for my sorcerer later on. I've done a tester that's posted below, but the others will be getting some sort of better representation of light armour.

Lucius: Cheers! I'm thinking it'll be a mainly nurgle/khorne force right now, but no doubt I'll get distracted by something and add tzeentch and slaanesh along the way. Gods knows that I'm having enough trouble staying with one game system, never mind one army, and a single theme is right out - sooner or later something shiny will pop up, and I'll be off on a tangent. (Again.) :D
And don't worry, the rest of the Nurgle unit will get a few conversions, I just wanted to try out the scheme and these guys were close at hand.

Mol: Thanks, tho I know full well I can't hold a candle to the stuff you're making for Inq28. :)

Kayvaan: Much appreciated, and yeah, I knew I had to get the marauder chieftain as soon as I saw him. He's a great model, but he's absolute hell to rank up. Good casting quality too on the AoW stuff.

Maelstrom: Be silent! :D I won't be getting a manticore, I'd have no idea how to actually transport a model like that so I could get a game in. And if I should field something that size, it'd be a converted version of Galrauch, a two headed dragon who's also a level 4 sorcerer of Tzeentch. I've seen some truly amazing conversions of him online, mainly using the HE dragon.

Deserter: Good point on the tattoos, they're frothing madmen after all. The next bunch will be more messy. :) And trust me, I'm keeping an eye on bitsandkits for those marauder horsemen heads. I just haven't been able to get them just yet. If anyone has any suggestions on alternate heads, please toss up a link!

Digits: Thanks man. The red is built up with 3-4 heavy glazes of Red Gore, then 2-3 of Blood Red, finishing with an edge highlight of Blood Red with a touch of Macharius Orange. Takes a while, but it's not so bad as it sounds when it's done in batches.

El D: Massive compliment coming from you, thanks. :)
The skin is about as easy as it can be - Deneb Stone with a wash of Ogryn Flesh. It helps that these are over a white undercoat, so all I need is a single layer of thinned Deneb Stone. It could probably be a lot better with some proper highlights and some shading, maybe with the other washes, but for rank-and-file I think it'll do.

As mentioned I'm visiting the parents at the moment, so there's no new piccies except these that I forgot to post:

I got the metal exalted hero from Dullmohawk, minus one arm. There's a brilliant picture in the army book of a standard bearer on horse that looks a bit like him, so I decided to see how close I could get. He'll be my battle standard bearer, I think. Either that or a standard bearer in one of the knight units, but he's a bit too static for that.

And, as mentioned above, a quick tester for a Tzeentch marauder, done mainly to try out painting some blue:

Unfortunately I forgot to greenstuff the joints between the torso and the arms, so I might have to do something about that later on. :(

That battle standard bearer is looking fantastic! Any chance that you might place it on a small slab of stone etc so he could be even more menacing, silently gazing down the battlefield :)

And Tzeentch marauder looks very good, I especially like how the pale skin and blue of the shield compliment each other.

So, now you have at least three major powers in your army ;)

looking great so far :D had to check out that pic of the standard bearer after you mentioned it, never noticed he was a standard bearer before :P how foolish i feel!

and the blue looks really nice... only criticism is that tattoo, it looks great, but it doesn't really stand out, maybe darken up the edges a bit? just to help show it off more :D

and will be posting my hordes stuff in my main log very soon, dont you worry ;)

Cheers guys!

Lucius, putting him on a slab of stone is a great idea, I think a scenic base of some sort is in order. I'll get cracking on that when I get back home!

Marovian: Thanks mate.

Merceus: Not a bad point about the tattoo, I'll take a look at that. Cheers!

no problem ^^ also, is that marauder's head one that came in the marauder set or is it from the marauder horsemen box?

Mol: Thanks, tho I know full well I can't hold a candle to the stuff you're making for Inq28. :)
Well, I making them is one thing, but I really, really, really can't paint - thankfully I have El D's help for that. Conversions are more my thing, which is why I'm really impressed with the BSB. The Chaos Lord on daemonic mount is a model I really like, and I like how you've managed to make a static model look suitably dramatic. I can imagine him on a small hill, silently observing the carnage around him. Very evocative. I'd say that you need to do something about the bent spike on his shoulderguard, though!

Merceus: I think it's from the horsemen box, but I got him second (or third) hand, so I can't be entirely sure. :) It's one of the VERY few horned marauder helmets that I actually like, I know that much...

Mol: I'll definitively be making a small hill or raised rock that he can stand on and observe, that's for certain. Very good point about the spike, thanks. I dunno how, but I had got it into my head that it should be like that. I'll fix it once I get back home tonight!

Looking very good mate. As for the rather large champion, why not put him and a larger base and use him as a unit-filler? I did the same with my Orc warboss, as he's absolutely huge, and it turned out rather well.

Cheerio mate, I'll think about that... Might do so in smaller games, it's just that I'd like to use him as a unit champion and if I've read the rules correctly that means that he has to stand in the front rank?

Time for a tiny update: I've been looking around for a model to use as a familiar, since none of the GW ones really interest me. They're a bit too silly, and I'd prefer something slightly more serious. I've managed to find some Helldorado stuff that does the trick rather nicely, I think:

There's also a couple of others in the pack, a regular demon rising from the ground and a chubby one with a turban. I can see one of them getting used, at least.
