So famous Desert Rats. Great unit choice. If I ever manage to finish the current FoW project, I have planned for EW British tank unit. Light tanks and lots of Bren carriers

That finecast tomb king with the scarabs is a cool mini, but I can see what you mean with the edges of the headress, it doesn't look crisp. Should be a quick model to paint though. |

Marovian - Yeah the edges are not that crisp, but that could also just be the way the model was sculpted. If the initial master didn't have very crisp edges then no matter the casting material, you can't increase the detail if its not there! Its still a nice model though. Got a little bit of painting done last night on the FOW infantry platoon I had sitting about. The bases are done and the uniforms and helmets are basecoated. Next up will be to paint all the webbing, boots, rifles and trenching tools. Then they will get hit with a Devlan Mud wash. Once that's dry I will paint the skin. Et voila, complete! Got a snap of the point they are at just now, so will upload it later as just got the hurry up email from the boss regarding some work I am doing so best go do that. Until later. |

No progress recently, not been in the mood to paint as I put the paints away so I could focus on getting some work done and I can't be bothered getting them back out. Although last night I did start to put together a few more Skeleton Archers to bring the unit up to 20 with a Master of Arrows. Might try and get them finished tonight and if I do I will stick a picture up. In other news I am still waiting on my Wayland Games order as the bases I ordered for my FoW are still not in stock. Why they have no live stock counter on their website I don't know. Would make sense and mean that I don't order things that aren't in stock without knowing! |

That's the "gothic" of GW, I guess. Great to see FoW painted, still need to find time to start painting mine. At least the base colours. That would be a start, right? Edited by Lucius von Kalteisen, 25 Aug 2011, 06:52 AM.

Any paint on a model is progress in my eyes. Gf is out at work tonight so hopefully I will manage to sit down and get something done. It might just be building more Warriors. But if I do, I might try and at least get them based and undercoated too. Thanks for the comments. I am looking forward to painting up the Apophas model too, but going to get another core unit painted first, don't want to leave myself with ranks and ranks for Skellies to paint and no interesting characters! |

Skeletons are looking nice, purple didn't immediately come to my mind as a colour for them but it looks good. Like the gems on the headresses highlights really make them pop. FOW guys look fun too. In my mind apophas must be a paint to paint, so many scarabs to highlight. |

There has been some slow progress over the last few nights. Apart from 4 arms my 20 strong unit of Skeleton archers is built. Will need to sand the bases then spray them. Once that's done painting can commence. I think I will paint this unit, then paint up Apophas, then do my Skeleton Horsemen unit. After that I will finish off my mounted Liche Priest (his horse has been done for ages). I am hoping the Archers won't take so long to paint as the Warriors as there are no shields to paint. Question - what colour do I paint the bows on the Archers? Do I do them purple to tie them into the rest of the army since they have no shields? Otherwise the only purple will be on the few who have helmets on their heads. |

Purple bows could work, but I'd have thought a dark brown or charadon granite could work better on the wood, could you put some purple on their quivers/quiver straps/arrow flights instead? |

Yeah, I think the reason I thought purple might be ok is that the GW Studio army has red bows.. Will try a few options when I get round to painting them and see what looks best. Ideas still welcome though! |

So I have a slight update for you just to keep things ticking over in here. Still haven't cracked out the paint, but I did get the Skeleton Archers built and based last night. I have never played Fantasy but I get the impression that in 8th ed units of "normal" troops are pretty useless unless they are in blocks of like 30 or 40, rather than the 20 that was ok in 7th ed. However so far the core units I have are just 20 strong (that's all I had the models for). I am not likely to play much so its not a biggy really. So based and built Archers, should get them undercoated this evening. ![]() ![]() Apophas was based as well so will be undercoated at the same time. |

I shall be watching this closely as well, as I am also planning on doing 20 TK archers next. I think you are right with the large block of infantry, although I am not sure if that applies to missile troops. Still, a big block of 20, especially since I think the front two rows can fire now. I think you should try purple bows or if that is too much scorched brown. |

Am I right in saying that for missile troops its best to have them ranked up in 1 or 2 ranks only? Though I guess they need to rank up as I have them there for combat should they get into that? #Fantasynoob |

Well the Tomb Kings are still sitting un-undercoated (new word there!) but I did make a bit of progress on two squads of the three from the FoW platoon I am working on. They have had their webbing, weapons, boots etc all painted and the models were washed. They just need their skin doing and they are complete, but I will do that across the entire platoon at once. So tonight I should get the 3rd squad to the same stage then start on the skin. ![]() ![]() ![]() Cheers |
