I'm currently trying to make a gaming table or two worth of terrain and such here at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan. It's slow going since I don't have a ton of time to work on it. I'm using stuff from the junk yard. I have a role of plastic/sectioned floor matting to use as an air base or building complex. I've also salvaged a 6 foot table. That's a start. I've also founds some interesting pieces of aluminum tubing that is perforated in a beehive pattern to use as industrial stacks. I've got some huge plastic speed bumps I'm using as bunker entrances. I want to make a large control tower / communications building but haven't found any suitable material yet. I've also got some steel battery charger shells that are about 18" on a side and 12" tall, with louvers. These might be turned into aircraft hangers. |

At least you have lots of sand for the board texture! Best of luck with this, I too look forward to seeing the fruits of your labours. |

I think I'm going to build a table that represents the edge of an industrial/imperial base that the desert is encroaching upon. The base has been abandoned and the sand is migrating in. To represent this, I'm going to use the fold up flooring as a base, since it's about 4 feet wide. It will sit on top of the 6' x 3' table. I'm going to coat about 3 foot of it in 3M spray adhesive and sprinkle sand on. Yes, I'm having to skimp and use real sand, can't afford the good stuff from citadel. The rest of the board will be left in it's sectioned olive drag plastic look. I'll try to find some spray paint to paint some street lines. Stage two will be to build some structures. The first structures will be a vehicle checkpoint and burm/fence. Next, some troop bunkers with burned out / broken gun emplacements. At the far end, I've got 4-5 different sized transformer shells I'm going to use as aircraft hanger structures. I've gotta figure out a process to cut these up and make them look more like buildings. The problem is that the steel is only 1/16" thick. I might glue some cardboard to the inside of the shell to make it thick like a wall. The biggest problem with all of this is that there's no spray paint to be had. I could really use some gray, black, and olive drab. I'm still looking around for these. BTW, I'm Brother Zebadiah on the Apocalypse 40k website and Lirbrarium Online. Here's two more pics: the army I'm working on painting and the current squad I'm working on (about 70% done). I wouldn't consider using real sand skimping. Just pass it through a shiv to keep only the real fine sand and you're in business. |

And they say their fighting a war. Looks like an ok room you got there, and your bike, and even a bed side table and lamp! All joking aside, good to see you keeping up with the hobby whilst on tour, best of luck with it. |

I'm also curious how big the club is? How many folks are part of it? I find this fascinating. |
