Looks really promising SC. What did you use to make the concrete bunker?

You need to keep going on them, they are looking good - bored as you might be.

Looking great there Steve.

I used to sit my wee hamster on the desk sometimes while I painted too, he used to just stroll about lol.

Concrete...

Nah, plaster of paris, mixed with coarser interior filler, with some (geology terms coming) well sorted, rounded, fine sand. Not much of the sand, it's good because it presents a weakness within it so you can break it up along certain choice angles with confidence - so long as the sand is sparse. Add some PVA glue to it to give it some elastic strength (the mix without it is too brittle). I created the actual shape by making internal diameter mold out of plasticard, then filled it with the mix after sprinkling some plaster into the mold (just a bit. Left overnight it will come out nicely.

Gav - I couldn't leave Hayley while I paint. My concentration is shot at the worst of times without an escapologist hamster nibbling my brushes.

Marovian - Ta, the thing is, if I painted them individually they would look better, I cannot batch paint, I don't have the concentration or the patience. Hence me having less armies than Germany after the Treaty of Versailles.

Cheers guys, done some more work. Rolls and scabbards, some webbing done. Decided the scabbards needed to be like that faded red brown leather stuff, watched with reds and purple. Photos tomorrow.

Getting more worried, the closer I get to the end, the closer I am to having to crack out the purity seal. Frankly I have so little confidence in spray varnishes I may get something from the craft shop...

Steve if your painting it for a demon entry, don't bother with varnish - that way you'll save all the textures/finishes you intended to be there in the first place. Very rare to see high end entries varnished.

Very nice stuff mate!

I'm with El D on the varnish issue, most GD winners that I have spoken with don't use varnishes unless it's used for effect as it alters the paint finish.

Fantastic layout for the base, loving all the detail. It all looks very well balanced, and the painting is top notch.

Cheers, the varnish issue I'm aware that typically GD lads don't varnish, problem is I have to post the thing to Rictus. (I leave for 8 weeks of field work in a week - I fly back to the UK on the 24th September, stay in Birmingham overnight then go to GD - then come back to Durham via Nottingham...).

Although I've got a problem at home and not sure I'll be able to finish this now in the next week. I think I may be in Newcastle dealing with said problem until I leave.

Well, problem resolved, just.

I leave the UK for 8 weeks field work tomorrow. So no updates until after GD. For anyone wanting to keep up with my travels, check my blog. Likewise I've posted some wip's and older work of mine there. Link in signature.

Looking forward to seeing you all at GD!
