Well, now that I've got a bit more free time on my hands I figured it was time a set up a general painting log. I'm rather optimistically hoping that I may get some painting done over the summer and not get distracted by other things.

Anyway, to start this off I thought I'd show some of my better painted models - largely as I've been playing around with a new light box and by pimping my wares I feel I can justify wasting a few hours.

My marines (at least the ones worth showing, I have finished others but they suffered from boredom and rushed painting):

More of these may turn up in the log as I decide to finish the army

I bought the chapel ages ago for a photo base thing, figured I might as well use it.

Urban War Viridian Officer:

I've got more Urban War stuff finished if people want pics, although I can't see myself painting any more - it was a craze that quickly died out at the local club. The Viridians are one of the few 'armies' that I've actually finished.

Warmachine Butcher:

More Khador can be expected, although in the interest of getting the painted the rest are speed painted with a generous helping of devlan mud.

Hordes Circle Orboros:

Not really sure what my plan is with these guys, I've got some infantry for them - I may paint them up then sell them. I've never used them in a game and can't really be bothered investing in the new books and cards for a game that I don't often play.

Anyway, looking forward I'm hoping to get my Mordian guard finished off. In a craze of painting before a local tournament I managed to get a 1750pt list finished up about 3 years ago, so I'mm probably touch them up and get them sealed and varnished first, then move on to finishing the rest of the infantry. Can't really decide what I'm going to do with the tanks - I'd like to repaint them but if I do I should really strip them first, but stripping 8 tanks is more that I feel prepared to do..

anyway, this was roughly the 1750 list, as far as I recall. The tanks were different (1 demolisher, 1 normal russ and a hellhound) but I thinned out the flock some time ago. Under the new codex I can squeeze this out to about 1600 points maxed out. To keep it legal I also have to add in a Lord Commissar so that I can get a 6th chimera for the Lascannon's and keep the list fully mechanised - loosing the option to fully mechanise an army is one of the many things I don't like with the new codex. The Stormtroopers are also demoted to veterans to fill my second troops choice.

And here's a shot of the full army, fingers crossed it will be fully painted by September!

Anyway, enjoy! I'm off to get distracted by things..

Very nice mate, the IG look snazzy and I share your sentiments on the new 'dex. Not too familiar with Warmachine but the models look very nice.

Oh, been meaning to ask this for a while, but keep forgetting. A long time ago, on the FoW forums I found a guy with your name listed as being in Glasgow. Was that you, or some sort of imposster?

Dave out.

Thanks guys,

Dave, I'm on the FoW forums but I think my screen-name there is 'Private Iron' (although thinking about it I log in there as Brush Your Teeth, but all my posts show under Private Iron. Not sure what happened there) and I'm not in Glasgow - I am in Scotland though, close to Stirling.

Ah, fair enough. I'm in Glasgow, so its nice to know that I have a fellow Bunkerite closer to me than Oban or Dunfermline :P

Dave, Insane Psychopath is in Stirling as well I believe, think he goes to the Stirling Wargamers club.

Lovely marines there mate, very "middle of a long campaign" feel you have going with them which is nice to see.

The weathering/hazard stripes on the marines give them a really nice, unique look- bob on job chap!

Like the butcher too, that model works really well with a more realistic scheme/palette, did you ever finish any of the warmachines? My knowledge of the system is very limited, but I'd like to see robots in that scheme!

If you've got/can take (glad you found a lightbox!) any closeups of the mordian rough riders/stormtroopers t'would be good, hope you can find time to get some more painting done over the summer.

Thanks guys,

@Kayvaan, Insane Psychopath does indeed visit the Stirling club, chances are anyone whose ever been to a 40k tournament in Scotland you've probably met him! :D As for the middle of the campaign look, that's exactly what I was aiming for, the idea stolen shamelessly from Dominus ex Machina and another chap (whose name I can't remember) on Warseer. I've also tried to make them all fully kitted out with knives, pouches, helmets etc.

@Rise, I've got a fair bit of Warmachine stuff painted up, it was only the butcher and a few other bits I really spent time on though, the rest were block colours followed by an all-over coat of devlan mud. Here's a full army shot:

I've aded a few more mini's since then, but not much - there are more photos here:
http://s1106.photobucket.com/albums/h368/PrivateIron1/Warmachine%20Khador/

And here are some close up shots of the guard, I think I'm going to touch up the yellow but otherwise they are basically finished - the hard bit is going to be trying to remember how I painted them (three years ago at least!) when I move on to doing the rest.

Rough Riders (Gunner bodies on rough rider legs - I need to get round to pinning and gluing them on their horses sometime so they sit upright):

Storm Troopers (I hate the faces on those old plastics..):

I'm not sure about the banners, I tried printing some but the quality wasn't so great so the paper hand-painted ones will probably stay for now - they have a certain charm, though I always feel lazy for not painting the rear side of the banners.

I'm also working on a mounted officer for the army based on THIS picture of the Duke of Wellington for the "poster boy" competition. However, the horse he's on is much smaller then the current rough riders, so I'm considering painting the rest of the French heavy cavalry box in the Mordian scheme - that would mean I they wouldn't be historically accurate for Napoleonics though (If I ever get round to painting my Napoleonic stuff It would be for the Peninsular where the only Cuirassiers were Provincial ones in a brown uniform), painting them for 40k also means tracking down a load of 40mm bases.

Scale shot to show what I'm talking about

'Wellington' on the left - WIP.

What do people thing, make the French cavalry into Guard Rough Riders (Blue) or Napoleonic Cuirassiers (brown)?

Thanks Chaos Wolf :)

A quick update here, first up my 'poster boy' entry:

Larger photo: http://i1106.photobucket.com/albums/h368/PrivateIron1/Wellington_at_Waterloo_Hillingford.jpg

And I've finished off a squad for the guard - photo's aren't the best so I may update them later.

Rear - I think they look better from behind with the cut of the tunics, always a plus as its the side I see!:

Not sure what I'll do next, next month I've a fair bit to do for BoB but I may work on more Guard in the mean time, or possibly some Necromunda stuff.

Very best,

Now that is very nice, and the old big nose model is great. Where is the base model from? The legs look like they could make rough rider conversions easier.

Thanks guys,

Dave, The base model for Nosey is from Perry Miniatures 'French Napoleonic Heavy Cavalry', I picked up a box of 14 models for about £12 on ebay so I have 13 more to play with! They are slightly smaller than GW mini's, before I had the cloak on 'Wellington' his head was looking a touch big, and the horses are very small beside standard GW horses (comparison pic).

I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the next 13, I think I'll use some to replace my current rough riders so the General doesn't look like he's been left with the weediest horse in the army. The remaining 3+ (not sure if I need a squad of 10 rough riders, may be more than is effective?) I'm considering making into commissars/advisors.

Mol, the old metal storm troopers are lovely figures, I just with I could say the same about the plastics! I've got the other sergeant variant somewhere along with a few more troopers - I'd like to get 2 more special weapons so I can run a second squad of storm troopers, but I expect they'll be selling for more that I can justify to spend on them.

Also just to note, photos in the previous post have been updated.

Very best,

Loving those guard models especially, over all it has a fantastic feel to the force that sets it apart from all the Cadian armies out there.

Cheers guys,

Possibly not the most interesting update here but I made a board to fit inside my new light tent:

Hopefully it will help make the photo's look that little bit more interesting, and I've taken a shot with some mordians on just to test it out:
