Greetings, This is a thread to discuss Movies and TV that you have been watching lately. Small reviews appreciated. The Other Guys I laughed. Normally I don't like Will Ferrell, but it I still laughed. Overall, I think the script needed another once over before filming. The movie had some sub-text and themes it wanted to hit on, but they nwere never fully developed and went for cheap laughs instead. This movie could have been amazing. instead, it is just average and disposable. Spartacus I liked the first season. I'm half way throught eh second season, which is a prequel due to the unexpected and unfortunate cancer that has struck the guy playing Spartacus. This season focuses on the House of Batiatus and it's rise. One major flaw in this season is that it only has 1 heroic storyline, and about 3 or 4 villain cnetered storylines. That can make it hard to "get into" unless you like seeing plotting and villainy. Thankfully, I do. On the downside, the plotting and villainy hasn't been has twisty and turny as the first season. Now, it's your turn. What have you been watching? |

I've been watching Entourage recently, just finished season 3. Wasn't sure about it initially as I watched it following people giving it good reviews, the episodes didn't really seem to have much of a story to each one. But watching them as a series makes them a lot better and now I love it. Just waiting for season 4 to turn up.

Just finished up Lost. Missed it the first time around and decided to just watch it all in one go instead of trying to keep up with episodes over the course of 3-4 seasons... I just have to say "whut?" |

Also catching up on Sopranos. Also taking advantage of the fact that Sky Atlantic have been showing X-Files and Voyager from the beginning so re-watching them. Game of Thrones is also on the Sky+ player: Swords and boobs are never a bad combo! |

Well I'm watching Dilbert, the animated series now. Only at season 1, but I'm loving it. I love the way they look on the live and work of an engineer. Maybe not the humor everyone can appreciate. Edited by Novogord, 3 May 2011, 08:21 PM.

Watching my way through the Tudors series(s). About to start series 3. Enjoying it alot, good mix of drama and female flesh. I know the drama is ramped up a bit for TV, but it would seem that tudor wimmins were, hmm, loose shall we say. Kind of wish I lived in those times haha. Also watching my way through CSI as well, the original ones as I stopped watching it after like series 4, so got some catching up to do and HMV had half seasons for like £5 each a while back so got like 2 full seasons. |

I just watched Restrepo, previously I had read the book WAR by Sebastian Junger. They filmed this at the same time. The events of the book are portrayed in the movie. Everyone should watch this. It doesn't really pull any punches. The book you can pass on, but I would watch the movie. |

Mostly on the US crime dramas here, very rare that I watch anything British. The only thing that ever came close to stealing my TV time was Red Dwarf, other than that its been US shows most evenings since I was in my teens. NCIS series 8 is on, Criminal Minds series 6 and then a random assortment of CSI's. Never quite got into the NCIS Los Angeles spin off though, not sure why. Criminal Minds is due to have a spin off starring Forrest Whittaker soon though, looking forward to that. Love the US style of spinning off success though, sometimes the results are excellent. CSI -> CSI:NY -> CSI: Miami JAG -> NCIS -> NCIS: Los Angeles Law & Order -> Law & Order: Criminal Intent -> Law & Order: SVU Some are less so though Friends -> Joey

The Americans love a spin off. Nothing like flogging a dead horse (in some cases at least) Although all the CSI ones have worked out well. Not that I could ever get into CDI:NY, just didn't get into it. CSI:Miami while good, is getting a little repetitive now, however its still worth watching for Calleigh Ducayne. |

Have you seen her in West Wing also? She played a republican lawyer brought into the team but I'd have to check which series she had the role in as it wasn't all of it. |

I watched two Documentaries... Operation Barbarossa- Nothing new here. However, some of the footage is interesting. You could watch it with the sound off, and get the same experience. Forgettable and skippable Project XX: The Great War- Now this, this was a bit more interesting. The focus was clearly on the footage. When they discussed the big Spring Offensive their was about 10 minutes of footage and music and that was it. No talking, nothing. they just let you absorb it all on. In addition, this film did not try to teach you the history. The movie told the story using elements from the culture of the time such as poetry, snippets of popular songs from the time, direct quotes, etc. It wasn't a narration, so much as attempting to give insight into the thoughts and feelings of the people of the time. One of the more innovative approaches to a Documentary I have seen. |

The Battle for Chernobyl All I can say is damn I'm glad I wasn't involved in that mess. The liquidators went unknowingly into levels of radiation that make Fukishima look like background. Pulse Pink Floyd's 2 disk live DVD. If you are a fan you need this. Dave |
