So, as I mentioned earlier in the "what did you learn today" thread, I m interested in starting Deathwing. If all goes to plan I may (May) create a plog/log/whatever they're called these days. However, aside from Terminators and the DA codex as suggested earlier, I am at a loss as to what I should get. This is where you come in, fellow Bunkerites. Where should I start? What's good for 1000 points? Should I bother with a LR? I thank you in advance. |

1000 pts of Deathwing will be quite a small force, probably no more than 3 squads, Belial and a vehicle. I'd suggest something akin to this - Belial (TH/SS) Terminator Squad (Apothecary, 4x TH/SS, Cyclone Missile Launcher) Terminator Squad (5x TH/SS, Cyclone Missile Launcher) Terminator Squad (5x TH/SS, Cyclone Missile Launcher) Terminator Librarian (Combi Melta) 1015pts. If you wanted to get a vehicle in, drop the Librarian and get a Dreadnought in, adds a bit of anti tank. It's a list based around deep strike as you'll always get 2 units down on your first turn. Having everyone with a Thunder Hammer and Storm Shield makes use of the fact that with the recent FAQ, Dark Angels now get the usual 3+ Inv save from the shield rather than the old 4+. Similar with the Cyclone Missile Launchers, your always firing 2 shots out to 48" on the move which is huge when you've got stuff that you need dead at range. I'll probably take the Dreadnought over the Librarian, they arn't too useful from what I've heard, and I'll need the anti tank. Worth putting it into a drop pod? |

If your going to 1000pts you won't have the points for a pod, spare points being the problem for Deathwing armies. If you take it to 1500 for example, you'll have room to add another squad and a land raider to the above list. |

Well 1000 points is a starting point, I can always expand into 1500+ points. |

With the first 1000 pts you could drop the Librarian for a Lascannon dread without problems. |

There is a large debate on shooty vs choppy in the Deathwing Tactica on Warseer. I personally have played both and Choppy needs to be a mechanized force... Even with the new SS rules I dont think El D's list will be that effective as you cant get to grips with your opponent soon enough to do enough damage to win... The current thinking goes: Belial with LCs to capitalize on his Initiative or SB/SOS Shooty squads have a heavy weapon of your choice and at least 1 Chainfist for Anti Tank. Choppy squads are usually LCs with a heavy weap and Chainfist, Maybe one TH/SS. Dread to fill points LRCs are superior to LRs |

Is the current plan. As for the shooty vs choppy debate, at a glance, I wouldn't have thought that small a model count could put out enough firepower to be very effective - especially when the Leman Russes start hitting the table... |

I dont know about that... You will be suprised at what a squad with storm bolters and an assault cannon can kill.. Of course all three squads on one side of the enemies line can destroy that corner. The only things I am afraid of are Stealers (cant kill them all) and a Death Star squad of TH/SS with Calgar. |

Aye, I had no doubt of that. I'm likely to go down the shooty route anyway as I already have some shooty Terminators. |

Could of been an idea to say you had shooty terminators in the first instance. I would of been able to tailor any help in that direction. |

It's still all about your own playstyle and what you like to do.... I prefer Footslog/shooty cause a stormbolters move 6" and still shoot 24" can cover a lot of ground... (That and I always seem to charge the other army's HtH monsters with my Mech/Assaulty list)

Tried a couple of games today and found that hitty Terminators seem to be far more effective than shooty Terminators. Will hopefully be able to pick up a codex tomorrow. UPDATE: Ordered a codex from Amazon, but it isn't due for a few days, I will post some progress when it arrives. Edited by Liquid-Joshi, 18 Apr 2011, 11:15 AM.
