OK all knowing AB chappies, help an old fool out with a few rule clarrifications if you will.

As you may know I've played my first couple of games of 40k since we played MB. This is the first time I played with the new rule set and I have myself a little confused.

1) All blastmarkers now roll 2d6 and a scatter dice, removing the bs from the scatter distance. Seems like grenade launchers on frag suddenly got dangerous to use at anything under 10 inches away? Am I right? And what about Marbos demo charge? 6" range. There's an almost evens chance he'd drop the bloody thing on himself? Surely this can't be right? Am I missing something?

2) Fast Skimmers. Can they really only move 6" if they want to fire everything? Not a lot of point taking a vendetta if that's the case.

Anyway, I'm sure I'll have a few more queries in the coming weeks...

Nah, yer right on both counts mate.

The average 2d6 roll is about 7, the average BS 3 or 4. The slight inaccuracy is usually worth the trade of always hitting something with your blast marker. The examples you listed are a tad extreme, especially Marbo.

Again, spot on. Vehicles perform very poorly in 5th ed, between the modified damage chart and reduction in strength of what constitutes a defensive weapon a lot of vehicles have been hampered rather badly.

Dave out.

'fraid you're right on both counts, like Dave said, has led to some units being undercoated or less overpowered (seems weird how plasma cannons scatter, but plasma guns don't, to me...). I guess the 1-in-3 chance of rolling a 'Hit' plus the chances of scattering the model's BS or less mean overall you hit as much, but short range blast weapons are now pretty dangerous to use (which in the case of demo charges is perhaps appropriate). As for fast vehicles, that's why most people seem to take multiple rocket pods for their valks, as they're still defensive weapons, so can fire in addition to your main guns. Vendettas look a bit underpriced in the codex, so maybe this is why? (genuine question, not sarcasm, btw :-) ).

Oh, as for leman russes Dave, does their special trundley rule not make them still worth having? *stops building his russ just in case* Battlewagons are the worst example for me, you take a characterful transport one and fill it full of boys, mount 3 big shootas and a Kannon on it and the big shootas never even get to fire...

I don't get to play much 40k, so there's the explanation if anything doesn't make sense above ;-)

they can fire one main weapon in addition to an ordnance weapon plus any defensive weapons. Given that heavy bolters are no longer defensive weapons you cant unload with absolutely everything and still move 6 inches :(

Clarification: Move 6", Fire the TURRET weapon (not always an Ordinance weap) and one of the other hull mounted weaps..

Fast skimmer counting 6" as standing still seems okay to me... course I've only ever played speeders once....

Just seems to me the vendetta I built is unlikely to carry passengers unless I deep strike and unload it immediately. Cruising speed?

You forget it has Scout, allowing you a free move before the game begins. You use this to launch forward and hide
your Turkey in cover, then hop out, disembark and blitz something with your anti-tank firepower.

Alternatively the standard Valkyrie with a Lascannon works better for me, a pair of AP1 Ordnance missiles on turn 1
tends to ruin any vehicles day. and after that firestorm, you can still move 12" and fire with that Lascannon.
