GW have put up some more pics of the FUGLY Storm Raven. They are from slightly better angles than this one below, so I no longer think it is FUGLY, it is just fugly. I still can't stand the turret and air intake on top. A razorback turret would have been better.![]() Then while doing a bit of poking around I found this that had been done over on Bolter and Chainsword. I get the impression that it was a bit of a collaboration with a couple of guys bouncing ideas of one another. ![]() They were calling it the DV 8 pattern Storm Raven after the guy who photoshopped it. It looks like a massive improvement and I am tempted to get one. The turret would have to go a touch further back, wing mounted weapons maybe, angle the canards down, move the cockpit further forward and lower with possibly room for a second crewman behind. I don't like the idea of all that glass and some sort of sliding armoured panel either going up, or sliding from above like the mesh screens police vans have, would be good for it's final run in to attack. But what's the point? I am a (green) Space Wolf player and only the Blood Angels and probably the Grey Knights can have it, right? My local GW staffer says that next months White Dwarf will have an article and Stats allowing any Astartes to use it. If that turns out to be true........ I think it might be time to start building a DV 9 Storm Raven, the B.U.F.F a big ugly fat f****r. |

Ew, that is one ugly looking ship. My mate plays BA's and he was really looking forward to getting one of those. I'm not sure he'll be as keen if that's what they look like. |

i quite like the idea, it lowers the profile of the model which is good though personally ithink the troop compartment could do with lengthening just so it does not look so front heavy |

The second version looks better, but I still don't like it. I think it'd require a ton of work to look decent. |

I think the second profile is pretty decent. Though if they were to widen the fuselage just a little bit, I think it might be a bit more tolerable. |

It is what it is.. a Land Raider with wings, and simmilar profile lines to the Thunderhawk. This is what happens if a Techmarine found a corrupt STC of a Raider fused with a Thawk and says 'Hmm.. looks legit to me, lets build one' I agree the modified version looks a whole lot better, the low profile of it's spine is a massive plus. I was expecting an actual cradle on the back for a Dread, alas disappointment. Edited by Tychonaut, 20 Jan 2011, 11:48 AM.

Better but I still think it's butt ugly! Just the fact the wings seem to hang off the back and looks so front heavy! |

I personally like the Stormraven, certainly I would make some mods..but it's kinda cool. I do also really like the redesigned version too. Way less clunky looking. Also..possibly hybriding a Stormraven with a Valk would look cool as well. Edited by LuckyNo.5, 20 Jan 2011, 04:31 PM.

It looks a lot more like an Arvus Lighter in the second version. http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Images/Product/AlternativeFW/xlarge/ArvLit6.jpg |

i thought that when looking at the sprues ;), i like the fact the space marine pilot is not moulded to the fuselage like the land speeder |

2nd version looks so much better, but I'd still be tempted to extend the fuselage backwards and put the dread inside (actually I'd be tempted to chop the whole thing into bits and build a Thunderhawk) |

Well over the course of the day I've watched one being built and I have reconsidered my views, it's still a flying Landraider, but the photos do it no justice and make it look more stubby than it really is, plus considering how may bits it has it goes together nicely and has plenty of options |

I think the main issue with the Stormraven is that the front section is too boxy for the rest of it. And therefore it appears stubby, but overly so. I think if the troop compartment was the same length as the ship, and not as deep (although I know its supposed to carry a Dread too) then it would look better. I mean in the end my idea of a gunship/transport for the marines is the Thunderhawk. I guess it might grow on me, and it might look better painted in another Chapters colours, I always think vehicles look odd painted bright red. |

Its not a pretty model as it comes out of the box but with some modifications like DV8s ideas its a lot better. I might get one for my Guard, convert it and use it as an Aquila Lander. Its probably a little to big to field as an Arvus. Edited by DaHedd, 26 Jan 2011, 09:39 AM.

I think I will have to get one just for all the stuff on it, looks like a lot of it would be great for conversions. What's the damage on my wallet going to be? |
