Well, here we go. This is my Battletech BOB log.

A little background first. In the game you can use mechs, vehicles, and infantry. Mechs and vehicles are classed according to tonnage at intervals of 5 from 20 to 100, so 25, 30, 35, etc. Infantry platoons are classed from 3 to 5 tons based on equipment. Mechs are further broken down by weight class; light 20-35 tons, medium 40-55 tons, heavy 60-75 tons and assault 80-100 tons. A light mech is going to be small, fast, lightly armored and have 1 or 2 small weapons systems on it, where an assault mech is a large, slow, heavily armored beast with enough firepower to level a city.

Mechs are organized into groups of 4 called a lance. 3 lances is a company, 3 companies is a battalion, and 3 battalions is a regiment.

I'm going to be working on a mercenary unit; this will allow me to use whatever paint schemes I want to.

I realise you're doing mercs, but are you going for an overall scheme with them?

I'm not sure, yet. One of my main problems with finishing any of my 40k armies is that I hate to paint everybody the same way. I know it looks unified and all that, but it's boring for me to do.

I figure being mercs, they might have more individualized paint schemes. I may do all the members of a given lance the same way, though. I'm thinking of trying to use a symbol of some sort to tie them together as a unit.

Ah, Battletech. I remember reading some of the novels when I was younger, but I've never really seen anything about the game they were based on until I joined the AB, and even then, it's been intermittent. So consider me following this log closely! :)

I've played Mechwarrior and battletech a few times, but mostly just played the card game which is the only I've really liked.

@Grizz--Wow, no pressure, huh? ;) Hopefully I can do a respectable job with them.

@ Keravin--It's funny you mention the card game, I've got it someplace, but never tried it.

I think that Ral Partha used to, but a quick search of Iron Wind Metals site didn't come up with anything.

The Madcat looks kinda close, though.

Ah, I did enjoy reading that.

Something caught my eye though, the Gray Death Legion mercenaries; their origin story was the Battletech book that I'd read. Lightbulb moment when I connected the dots there, I have to say.

No pressure though mate, I'm just glad to see some models up on the Bunker! :)

The Mad Cat is the same thing from the looks of it cheers dude, damn tricksy battletech with multiple names for the same mech such as the Mad Dog which is the same thing as the vulture

I might have to look into getting a Mad Cat model just to paint :)

I have never played this game nor heard from it. How big are these miniatures actually?

I some mechs from Wizkids, Mechwarrior or something like that.

It's a fun game, IMO. The figures range in size (depending on the weight class) from roughly gobbo sized to roughly terminator sized. I'll see about getting a comparison pic a little bit later on...

Can't wait to see some pics.

Battletech always seemed cool to me. Even the Robotech rip-off mechs from the early years of the game.

I guess I'd better go take some pictures for you lot, then.

Easy E--I've got a fair number of those Robotech rip-off mechs that I'll be painting.

January/February
Previous month's leftover: 0
This month's amount: 250
Total budget: 250

Item 1: The Longbow--80 ton Mech
Item 2: Stinger--20 ton Mech

The rest of the budget should be up in another day or so, I've got a few mechs taking a Simple Green bath right now (ebay purchases with around 57 layers of paint on 'em)

First up, the LongBow (along with a termie for scale)

Example of Robotech rip-off number 1. A Spartan in Robotech is a Long Bow in Battletech.

What tonnage is something like that?

Does the rules system give you scope for designing/building your own Mech designs? I'm guessing they don't, but I can hope.
I would love to use a CAV Dictator, or I suppose I could play CAV.

Oh geez, that thing is 80 tons. I can't imagine what size something around 25-30 tons will look like!
