Well what kind of army do you want are you looking for a swarm army, a zilla army ( yes yes i know 5th ed says you can't do that but I still think you can), a shooty bug army, or you something different. |

That depends entirely on what you want from your Tyranid army, which units you like and what you expect to face? I would choose an army that suits your style of play. A few things to think about.. Tyranid Primes and boneswords, either in warrior broods or attached to smaller units are useful for taking out multi-wound characters/Ork Nobz/Ogryns, etc Trygons are really nasty. If you Deep strike them, your opponent gets one turn of fire to shoot it dead before the killing starts, he won't get another chance unless you run out of targets to assault. Remember they can actually shoot something, and the Prime does it better ![]() Tervigon can be really useful, making small units of Termagants to claim objectives with (or not in missions that involve kill points) when used as troops, they become a scoring unit ![]() Doom of Malan'tai: This thing kills armies, if your lucky with the early few turns. Either used as a 'beacon of freem' (fragging things with his big scary mind powers) or as an area denial weapon. (his spirit leech power) when his wounds reach 6+ you can start hunting tanks with him too.. Just avoid instant-kill fire. My example for facing Marines would be: Tyranid Prime with talons, pair of boneswords and adrenal glands Tyranid Prime with talons, pair of boneswords and adrenal glands Doom of Malan'tai 3x Tyranid Warriors with Talons, swords and adrenal glands 3x Tyranid Warriors with Talons, swords and adrenal glands Anything else you want, would suggest maybe a Carnifex/Trygon and a few smaller units if theres room. My 1500 list is a little different to this: Tyranid Prime (as above) Parasite of Mortrex Doom of Malan'tai 2x Zoanthrope Brood 10x Termagants Tervigon with talons, stinger salvo and adrenal glands (as troops thanks to the Termagants) 6x Genestealers, with Broodlord upgrade 10x Gargoyles Harpy with twin-Stranglethorn Cannon, Stinger Salvo and adrenal glands Trygon Prime with adrenal glands Carnifex with talonsx2, bio plasma, spine banks and adrenal glands Hope this helps. Alternative use for the doom - firepower magnet. Speaking from personal experience against nids im going to put a battlecannon round or six in his direction on turn one. So he isnt going to last too long :p A horde army is probably more expensive but can be incredibly satisfying to play, when i did nids back in fourth ed i used to roll with about 100 gaunts in a 1000 point army :p |

Oh goody your nids get to have a great meal As for my nids my old one was a zilla army made up of 2x hive tyrant, 4x carnfex, and 3x flying ripper broods. I plan to be making a deep striking army of some sort think lots of Raveners, a pair of Trygons and maybe a Haruspex.

Err.. most of my list arrives from Reserve ![]() Game was fun for me, and a nightmare for my opponent, take & hold with 3 objectives. Desert terrain, fairly sparse with rocks fields and a few hills and the occasional broken wall. I deployed first, setting my Tervigon on the left flank, the Carnifex on the right, the Zoanthrope Brood in the middle and the Doom hovering in their shadow, the rest of my army was held in reserve. The marine player set up his tactical squad opposite the Tervigon, but with a hill blocking his LoS (he wanted to set up as close to his objective as he could) A Venerable Dreadnaught covered the other flank, supported by a Devastator squad with a mix of weapons. The middle of his force was a 5-man Vanguard squad with various combat toys, and a Land Raider carrying 5 marines and a tooled up Librarian in power armor (his first and last mistake, will explain this later) He failed to seize the initiative, so I got the first turn. Tervigon and Carnifex move up the wings, the former spawning a unit of 12 Gants and the latter running towards the Dreadnaught. The Zoanthropes target his Raider, but one misses and the other rolls a 1 (my opponent almost exploded when I told him it was 2's to glance, 3's to penetrate his beloved tank) The Doom targets his Devastators, hits dead on and kills 3, going up to 5 wounds total. His turn one was Vanguard to the central objective, Raider ran away and shot at the Zoanthropes, but failed to kill them, Devastators Heavy Bolter managed to cause 1 wound (he actually ignored the Doom) Dread failed to harm the Carnifex, and the Tactical squad launcher came up short.. So ends Turn1 Turn 2. From my reserves arrive the Trygon Prime, the Harpy and my Genestealers outflanked. Trygon popped up right infront of the Tactical squad, Harpy landed to shoot up the Vanguard. I had hoped the Stealers would arrive from the right flank, but they had other plans, so I used them to pout pressure on the Tactical squad. The Tervigon moved into a rock field to lure in the Vanguard, the Termagants it made turn 1 went right for my objective(had ignored it till that point) The Zoanthropes moved to pursue the fleeing tank, The Doom following behind them while the Fex ran towards the Dreadnaught. Shooting began with the Trygon, managing to kill 4 of the Tactical squad with it's Containment Spines. Harpy and Tervigon fired their Stinger Salvo and the Harpy's Stranglethorn cannon at the Vanguard, killing 3 of them with the help of the Termagants. Zoanthropes managed to stun the Raider, Doom blew up the Devastators, but remained on 5 wounds.. A lucky roll with the Fex's Bio Plasma Imobilised the Dreadnaught (he made me reroll and it was only stunned) The Marines turn was begun with a minor fit of swearing at the damage i'd dealt to him. All the available fire of his army was pointed at the Trygon, which was reduced to 3 wounds, but limped on regardless. The Vanguard charged the Termagants, killing 3 for no loss, the Gants were fearless and lost another to combat res. Turn 3. My Tyranid Prime and his Gants turned up, as did the Parasite and his Gargoyles. The Horde had arrived! The Trygon leaps towards the Raider, Tervigon claims the middle objective and spits out another 10 Gants, who hold my objective by 1/2" The Stealers bound forward on the Tactical squad, ready to charge. as does the Carnifex on the Dreadnaught. The Zoanthropes fail their Psyker test, losing one to his brain exploding. so the Raider survived for now. The Doom steps out of their shadown and parks himself closer to the offending slab of Tank. There wasn't much shooting other then that. Combat began with the Carnifex tearing open the Dread, which managed to miss with all 3 attacks. The Harpy swooped down to finish off the Vanguard Veterans. The Stealers jumped on the Tactical squad, Broodlord Enthralling the Power fist armed Sergeant. They wiped out the marines for no loss, consolidating onto the marines objective. The Trygon managed 3 penetrating hits on the Raider, Wrecking it. The unit inside was forced to deploy right next to the doom, due to the position of the Trygon and Gargoyles. The Marines didn't move, the Librarian ready to charge the Trygon in an attempt at a moral victory. He forgot about the Spirit Leech of the Doom, rolled a maximum and the unit withered and died (he failed his Psychic hood save, and had no Invun.. Remember that mistake I mentioned?) There was no turn 4.. Final result 3-0 to me by Wipeout, not a single marine was left standing. Edited by Tychonaut, 19 Nov 2010, 12:03 PM.

My total losses were a Zoanthrope, 3 wounds from the Trygon.. and 8 spawned Termagants. but technically those don't really count
