Tree Diagrams and Divisions; Looking for some software

So, I am thinking of taking my current guard to 6000 pts and then rejigging the colour scheme slightly, tweeking a few things and starting what will technically be a new army. Sort of. And I want them to be an organised force, rather than simply a collection of everything I have painted over a couple of years.

So to provide them with some background I want to create some fluff and background for them. To that end I want to use a military style tree diagram for their organisation. However, I don't know how to do it. So, does anyone know of any free (or at a push very, very cheap) program or software I can use to create something similiar to this:

Thanks in advance.

If you needed to you could create such a thing in Word or PowerPoint I feel sure. Just create a single slide in PP and make text boxes. Should be easy enough.

Or do a silhouette type like I did for my MB force?

Look forward to the fluff. And at 6000, I take it you are still on some time for MB2?

Yep, the new force will essentially be a rebranded version of my current force. I'm thinking slightly more gritty and realistic. I essentially wanted a structered, organised force framework to work in rather than just buying stuff on a whim. I shall be going for a specific unit from a specific campaign but with scope for pretty much everything from the guard dex and IA books. Still very early stages yet mind. And won't come together very quickly but something I've had in mind for a while. I want to be able to do tree diagrams for the different sections of the force, would be interesting to mix them with silhouettes though.

Always up for MB2, though tricky at present. Anytime before April is unlikely - what with the nipper and no leave left!

Easiest way to do it, as Gav said, is using word. If you overlay the standard grid, drop in some boxes and line them up on the grid then connect them with lines. Doing it this way lets you do textual, like your example above; graphic, like the ones in IA 1 or, if you have the images to insert, silhouettes.

As noted, make your own in Powerpoint/word. It's farily simple, I have to create org charts at work regularly. So much fun :(

Looking forward to another guard arm yfrom you, will there be camo this time?

I shall look into the word thing. I don't have it on my laptop, but have downloaded open office - would that achieve the same thing?

Gonzo, I doubt there will be camo, I love my red/bone guard too much. As I said, they will essentially be a rebranded force, with few tweaks.

I think it would, yeah. 99% of the features are the same.
