I already like to have battlefield clutter in the form of supply crates, fuel supply dumps etc, but I got to thinking, what if the battlefield WAS the supply base or a full temporary base (like camp Bastion) wouldn't that be cool! Just edited the title as this will henceforth be known as Camp Talvenus, named after the Capital city on Drogan Prime. http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/178022/1/ So, to start things off, I will be collecting as many barrels, boxes etc as I can lay my hands on (if you can help, please do pm me for swaps, sales etc). I have started building a few pallets as it will get very expensive to keep using the plastic ones, nice though they are. This is going to take time to amass and build (thankfully painting this stuff is very easy!!! lol) but I will be looking for ideas, real life examples etc. I envisage large storage tanks, bunded ammo supply areas (think concrete pens with soil scree), corrugated sheds, security fencing / power fields, tents and offices, plant and equipment, area lighting, supply vehicles, pallets stacked high (the 8 I've made here will pale into insignificance......) and whatever else I can think of. I may even make some Hesco gabions and walkways http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hesco_bastion

40k hesco stuff would be awesome, not to mention random logistics vehicles around the place. Maybe even modify a landing pad for some heavy airlift ships |

Just been thinking about the hesco stuff - actually pretty easy I think. I'll have a go at making a couple of masters that can be cast in plaster...... |

It's easy when you think about it. Car body mesh, bit of timber for structure, old cloth and a bit of sand for the tops, I'll knock up a couple of masters as I said. |

Awesome idea. can i make a suggestion though? you need to do two masters. 1-an end piece (car mesh round 3 sides) and 2-intermediate one (mesh on the north and south, nice an flat on the east and west. that way it will look like its all one piece when you put them side by side rather than individual ones butted up next to each other) |

I thought that was the point though, as in they are individuals butted up? |

no. they come on a pallet as a concertina that opens up and is then filled with dirt the mesh is added to reinforce it http://www.hesco.com/enter.html watch the video clip at the top of the page and scroll down to hesco concertainer this is the bigger version. the concept tough is the same http://www.hesco.com/raid/ Edited by Old Guard, 21 Oct 2010, 08:04 PM.

OK, got it! I war reading the various sizes before the container version. So, one with flat sides and one with one flat side coming up! I reckon a suitable 40k scale is roughly two standard lego bicks as a square, 5 bricks high, bit of plasticince on the bulging sides, followed by a wrap of hankerchief.... Et voila! One done anyway - just run out of superglue! ![]() One for scale - I'm going for something a little bigger than those in the pics above as they ain't 40k big enough! lol Besides - some xenos may still be taller than it!!! lol

Looking like a good start Dave. HESCO is a good way to go I reckon. Would be good fighting over a full on supply/warehouse yard table. Make sure you got pallet trucks and forklifts around the place. |

works for me, though I would also suggest doing some smaller ones too so that the lads have something to stand behind and shoot over. the combination of the two will allow for a FOB to be created with ramparts!!!Sapper flashbacks!!! i'm getting excited need a couple of manticore chassis to build more DROPS (Though I have yet to attempt the reverse engineered Ork Truck wheeled veariant.....bugger another bloody project!) Necessity is the mother of all invention mate! Talking of which, obviously to build this, I need a shed load of barrels and boxes. Now there is only a certain amount of stuff I can scratch myself or scrape together from kits or bitz companies. Sooooo......I made a quick mold (not perfect but a lot of this will end up under netting to avoid close examination) of some barrels and boxes so I can cast them in plaster. (please note these are for my personal use only so please don't think I can do this for anyone else, that would be naughty, even if the casts are pretty crap! lol) Here are the fruits of my labours so far. If I said I've made a quarter of the pallets I intend, you get the impression of what I'm aiming for.
