Hello, and welcome to my second plog. This one will focus upon a project I've had on my mind for a while, but which Brother Vogt has kindly rekindled with his excellent PDF Guard army and plog (which can be found here). Without further ado, here's some background, followed by some pictures (for those who don't want to read background!). Director Hurigon's dark eyes were emotionless as he watched the grav-limo bank over the wall defended by his Corp security forces and settle in a cloud of desert dust in the courtyard of the Bio-Corp compound. In just a clutch of years, the compound's reinforced curtain walls had expanded and encompassed more of the formless sands of Gomeron, just as Hurigon's influence and power had grown in the ranks of Bio-Corp: he was the favoured representative and confidant of Pater Aeturnus, and was ultimately responsible for the organisation's successful research and the revenue this generated. The limo, a product of this success, powered down its gravitic generators, and the dancing dust dissipated as Supreme Justice Slozar stepped from the vehicle, his half-cloak swirling behind him. He looked up at Hurigon through the tinted and plexiglass and smiled in greeting. Hurigon's office was a creation of black steel and glossy leather, flanked by the curve of the plexiglass wall which overlooked the courtyard. Hurigon returned to his chair and thickened the inky tint of the window to afford them supreme privacy: light panes in the polished floor brightened in response. The Judge was well-built, and moved with a strength that belied his long years. Beneath his chin, though, a large goitre had began to swell: juvenat treatments could only conceal so much. Was this really the same man who had exposed the insurrection sixty years ago, Hurigon wondered? "Can I offer you a drink, Supreme Justice? A mersican perhaps?" "Please Hurigon, call me Oran: we are close enough for a little intimacy, are we not? And I'll take that drink. How fares the 'Corp?" "Ably, Oran, ably ... your recent assistance in providing research subjects is providing some fruits of success already, and our prototypes are nearing full field-tests." "I'm very glad to hear it: there were some questions asked when I approved the transfer of those Salorian miners, but none could deny they were plotting insurrectionist when their documents were produced." "Produced indeed, Oran! It's comforting how we understand one-another." "In light of the bandit attacks, Hurigon, it's become vital that we prepare ourselves for the worst possibility ... if the cost of that is that a few misguided vagrants are turned into disciplined, willing warriors then it’s a cost I'll happily pay." Slazor sipped at his mersican, and continued, "And of course, if the agreement should benefit a good friend and I, then so much the better!" Slazor's statement had something of the question in it, Hurigon thought. "Your parcel is already awaiting you in the limo, Oran. With the kindest regards of Bio-Corp." Idly, he wondered what use the Judge found for the mind-altering philtres produced as a by-product of Bio-Corp research. Pleasure? Torture? Were they used to induce others in his circle of 'friends'? "The attacks are worsening, then? My men report sightings of their work, but none have been brave enough to attack one of our trade convoys." Slazor sighed, shaking his head slightly. "They ambushed a Cargo-8 taking weapons to the Phineas holdings, so we expect them to have small-arms at their disposal for future raids. They seemed to come from the desert itself, and have so far proved untraceable. Phineas is understandably worried that they may plan an attack while his men are teethless." The director would have smiled, but kept his face expressionless: his brothers had done well. "So much trouble: Phineas may have to move his holdings, I suppose. Can I offer some of my security teams to watch over his facility in the meantime? As you know, I have men to spare at present, since we have been allowed to recruit further reserves. Thanks to your influence, I suspect?" "I've suggested to the Governor's invigilators that your men should be … overlooked by those enforcing the limitations upon armed forces on Gomeron. Your security forces will prove a valuable ally should these rebels start attacking in larger groups: we harm ourselves by shackling you so. One of my adjuncts mentioned that you"ve also commissioned the delivery of 3 light mortar carriers? A wise choice in these circumstances." Hurigon made a mental note of Slazor's prying, but responded cheerily, "I see it as you do, Oran: it befits us in these times to prepare ourselves for conflict, despite the cost." "Indeed, but it seems like others in the capital do not share our concerns: I could almost believe they've forgotten the lessons of the insurrection." Slazor put down his glass and lifted himself to his feet. "Some of us have certainly learnt since then," Hurigon said, shaking Slazor's hand, "and we will be ready for what is ahead." As the lift doors closed and Slazor was ferried down to the waiting car, Hurigon allowed himself to smile. Floors below, he felt Pater Aeturnus smile with him, and it was as if the light of his being shone up from between the tiles of the floor he stood upon as Pater spoke to him. Soon, child, soon. So, to spell it out, Bio-Corp is the front for a genestealer cult, born from the remnants of the first Gomeran Insurrection, trusted by many of the planetary authorities, and burning for vengeance! The 'Corp's burgeoning defence force consists largely of the families of generations of hybrids, heavily armoured and assembled as Security Teams (more on the conversion of these later). They're supported by indigenous vehicles and led by the original Patriarch and the company's director, the current Magus. They've been busy implanting condemned criminals (and other victims) with a mind-symbiote which gives them a direct link to the gestalt mind of the cult's leadership, creating mindless drones who will fight fearlessly for the coven. The hybrids themselves are camped in the desert, avoiding being associated with the 'Corp, while capturing weapons and materials for the cause. So, the first hybrid is mostly painted - ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() With some very WIP buddies (I've got the bits for a squad of 10 of these, at present) ![]() And the first mind-slave, who I painted a while back and is therefore not based to fit the desert look of Gomeron - that'll have to be fixed, along with his bad eyes (eurgh), and his bandana'll go orange to fit the new colour scheme better. Apologies to those of you who've seen these already, finally got better pics though. ![]() ![]() ![]() With some more PIP buddies, to show variety of heads, etc ![]() For the Bio-Corp Security Teams, I'm planning to scuplt a torso and head (with plasticard for a basis) and cast this up - otherwise they'll have cadian legs and FW renegade autogun arms - seems likely to me they'd be able to fire plastic bullets while on 'security' duty, and regular sold shells otherwise. I'e got a pair of Venator's I'm planning to convert into Griffon's, too. Not enough progress on this front to show just yet, but I have been testing my casting skills (and learning) by casting some textured bases, which I'll use on later squads to add a nice theme to the bases as well. Here are my molds, and thanks to Rictus (should you be reading) for your casting advice, worked a treat mate! (shame about the focus though) ![]() That's it for now, hoping for at least semi-regular updates (though I doubt I'll have painted 36 models in 3 weeks, eh BV?), any thoughts/questions/advice would be wholly appreciated, as I've got lots of room to run with this project, and I'm trying new things (casting, and painting orange. And more sculpting, later). In particular, I'd like suggestions for the colour of the pipes on my hybrid's back as a first - as they're desert-dwelling, I'm planning a fairly pale scheme overall, and later models will have bandanas over mouths, dust goggles, rebreathers etc. The piece of cloth on his back might also change colour, as I'm tempted to make it desert-camo. Thoughts? Any thoughts on the background would also be good, some is agreed with BV whereas some was added on the fly, got a few more thoughts to add later as I'd like to establish the magus's background in particular in more detail. All the best, Rise |

Wow. Nice one JB. Its great to finally have the other side of the coin as it were. Loving the background. Really nice addition to Gomerian story. Adds some nice depth. As I've said before. I love the look of both the hybrids and the conscripts. Lookin forward to seein more and also some work on the mortar carriers! |

Nice start RotM; great back story. It looks like I'll now have to add a little fluff to my ad mech to compete with BV and your literary skills. Need to think of a suitable reason for the involvement of the Mechanicus in the affairs of Gomeron but I might just have the hook. Your hybrids look vaguely familiar as well. Could you possibly have been inspired by Nightbeast - Terror from beyond? ![]() Before I forget, I've got some renegade arms that I'll send up to you - for the cause. By the way, when you talk of Pater Aeturnus smiling within him, I take it you were talking figuratively, or can we expect a Quato type conversion to continue the movie character cameos (modeos?). ![]() |

Cheers for the comments guys - appreciate it. @ Berti, glad you like, will try to keep this plog updated fairly regularly, planning to sculpt much of the patriarch and scratchbuild a grav-throne, so should be interesting! @ Vogt, cheers mate, glad you're happy with my take on the background, looking forward to getting some games in with all this backstory! Mortar carriers to come, once I've at least pushed the Venator bits together. Might knock something up in paint to show what I'm planning - or a plasticard box or something. @ erebus, I'll try to get something built that gives you an excuse to bring out sewage baby, Ilsa: She-Wolf of the SS and Sgt Kabukiman. Probably. Would love to see some fluff from yourself (actually, eurgh), I'm pretty sure my cult are requisitioning some arms from the mechanicum, and we can always use allies... |

Very nice work mate, love the hybrid. Not so sure on the drones though, reckon something slightly more subtle would look good. Maybe have them at different stages as the implant grows? so the first stage just have a bulge on their back, stand straight and have a tiny nerve coming out of the back of their head sort of thing? |

This is totaly sweet. Gread overal work on the hybrids and the mind slaves are something new to me (I've known and loved the genestealer cults from times and places beyond reconing). The paint sceem is a work of art. Now on to some questions: Are we gonna see 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation hybrids? Are you gonna make a cult limo? A patriarch? Can I droole now or later on? @Oldguard: the heads are greenstuffed ork heads mate! Brilliant huh? |

Would be if they were Ork heads. They look to be the plastic ghoul heads. Some excellent work on the cult members so far. How large a force are you planning? |

OOoOOOoh. Mind slave! That is just cool. And I like the heads that have been sculpted with the stealer part. Very cool models. Haven't ever seen a cult with such great models. |

Wow, cheers for the encouragement guys! @ Easy E, I'm planning some security-enforcer style vehicles such as the Venators, and a couple of desert-faring mad-max-style hybrid custom jobs, shoul be fun. @ Dave38x, I kind of wish you weren't right as it'll involve a bit more thought, but they aren't exactly subtle, and I'm less happy with them model-wise than the hybrids ... as they'll be a unit of 30, I could maybe get away with these as 'first generation' slaves, with the more recent ones looking practically human (as mind-slaves always used to be in the old background) made from guard and a few zombie torsos, and some mid-range ones which'd be kind of hunched, with frayed fatigues - I'm thinking corpse cart zombies as a base. Do you think this could work as a unit? There'd be a graduation from one 'level' to the next, and colour scheme should tie them together, but I might still need to replace the slaves above with slightly more subtle implants (these were made so big to cover the big spine details on the ghouls, which I could have removed to begin with I guess... won't harm to have a few spare for later, either). @ Old Guard, Ghoul heads as agreed, though I'm going to try a couple of more human heads to see if they blend in sufficiently to suggest generations of hybrid through different details. While I'm on this, I'm going to include some mini claw arms and the odd clawed foot for the true hybrid look. Might look up some classic 'stealer or hybrid arms, as the scale is better for elysian bodies/arms. @Black Roses, glad you're excited, hopefully I've answered your hybrid question, there will certainly be a magus (who'll be 4th generation obviously) and a heavily-converted (largely sculpted) patriarch who'll be based on the pose of the WFB Slann in throne, but in a grav-throne instead. Probably be towards the back of the queue for now. As for the limo, I'm going to make something like this- ![]() -but built as an anti-grav vehicle instead, definitely with a pope-mobile-style area for the magus/patriarch to shout from (picture used without permission). @El D, cheers, I've got a 1500pt list in mind (Guard 'dex), so about 20 hybrids (penal legion), 30 mind-slaves (conscripts) and c. 50 Security troopers, plus vehicles and maybe some sort of armoured vets. We'll see. @sheep and shortsonfire, thanks! Rise |

Awesome stuff - those hybrid conversions are terrific. .I had a stealer coven back in the day made up of the rogue trader hybrids & guard, but sold it all around '95. Makes me weep when I see how much some of those figures change hands for now. Still got my Patriarch though! Looking forward to seeing the Limos. |

Oooh the Elysian Torsos go well with Flagellant legs. Agree with Dave the brain slaves lack subtlety but they do look pretty awesome all the same. Maybe they keep growing over time twisting the host up as they go until they are only fit for use as Shocktroops? |
