High Lord Admiral of the Imperial Fleet
|
![]() The ever present hum of the bridge never failed to calm him. He enjoyed the view from where he sat, looking down on the hundreds of bridge staff, gunnery officers and navigators arrayed before him. With a thought, the view was replaced by an external vista of stars, a Cobra destroyer arcing past in the far distance. This was what he had been born for, trained for and longed for his entire life. His early days were now nothing but memories, his ability to walk amongst the crew long since lapsed after he was connected to his first true command. Hard wired in, he was no longer a man, but the very centre of a 8 mile log battle ship, the symbol of the Emperors might. And it was his to command. He was an instrument of his devine will, and he was thankful. Another thought entered his mind, and instructions flashed up on screens and consoles ship wide. The engines flared, gun ports slid open and launch bays readied themseles. The ship moved forward silently, engines burning bright behind it. The enemy was just ahead and closing steadily. But the captain feared them not, he was secure at the helm of his ship, his weapon, his very own castle of steel. So, myself and Dave have been discussing this over PM and decided to do a but of a joint plog. I will be doing an Imperial Fleet and Dave will be doing Tau. We plan to get semi-regular games in, so stay tuned. My first delivery has arrived: ![]() Please note, this will be a slow burner for me at least, as I have numerous other things to do, but I hope to have some ships assembled within the next few days - so stay tuned. Oh, and anyone else wants to throw down with a fleet, please feel free! |

Indeed it will be good to see some more BFG, it appears to be growing in popularity in these parts (which is no bad thing). Only problem I have with BFG is scale. The planets are never the right size. (yes I know you would need to have something the size of a space hopper ) but it would look cool! Good luck Daves.

they are to scale with the battlefield not the ships lol, ship scale is 1:40,000, battlefield scale is 1-100,000,000 ie 1cm-1000 kilometres. Then planets are in scale ![]() Here is the current state of my fleet: Note that i might be buying more ships if i end up rolling with the BFG: Armada tau list not the FW one, as the FW ships are stronger but more expensive.

this is set to be a great log guys, two great painters with some very nice models. The tau ships have a very nice aesthetic, and look great as a fleet, look forward to more painting from you Dave. What scheme are you going to be painting the imperial fleet Dave? |

Not sure at the moment, I'm thinking a bright blue colour with white prows and gold bling. I also want to convert a few with added angels etc on the dorsal section, make them look suitably imperial. I'm hoping to get the cruisers assembled tonight, think I will go for a carrier based fleet, since Dave has shown me the power of fighters/bombers etc. Also need to start pricing up a battleship, some escorts and maybe even some forgeworld. |

just checked bomber rules, only thing i was wrong on was that having fighters in your wing doesnt reduce the number of turrets for the purpose of working out how many hits the bombers make. Still bloody scary though :p |

All looks promising guys! I really like where this is going. Here's a question for you though, in Descent of Angels Johnson's fleet has 6 destroyers with them. Would these likely be Imperial or Marine destroyers? I only ask as I'd be interested in recreating the relativly small fleet he had. Dave |

If that is heresy era they would have been imperial. Of course its all a bit back-ass-ward because there are no models of imperial destroyers at that time. (Bear in mind here that chaos cruisers are essentially heresy era imperial cruisers, their escorts are newer however). But i would go with imperial cruisers. |

Did you say this was open for others to add some fleet elements too? I have been meaning to do some Ork Escorts for ages, all I have right now is an all Capital Ship fleet, and I want some ramships! Edited by Easy E, 17 Oct 2010, 03:23 PM.

Feel free to jump in Easy E. Right, first offering from me. Chucked together a couple of my cruisers. In the foreground is a Mars-class Battlecruiser, and in the background a Dictator-class cruiser: ![]() I chose these to give me a decent amount of attack squadrons (fighters/bombers etc). The other two will probably be lance/nove cannon equipped ships. Very impressed with the models as well. Very quick to assemble and put together. I am planning on using drybrush over a black undercoat which should hopefully be quick as well. Me being me, I want a huge fleet, with battleship squadrons, cruisers galore, escorts all over the place and all manor of other stuff. Not sure how Dave feels about Apocalypse style Battlefleet gothic though! |

Marovian, what is the difference between the two, besides the small guns on the top and the prow cannon? |

Essentially, that's it. The Mars is a battlecruiser so mounts dorsal Lance turrets (the little turrets on the top) and a very powerful Nova cannon in the prow. The Dictator has now dorsal weapons and only torpedos in the prow. The nova cannon is a very powerful weapon that can blow a ship to pieces with one shot and has a long range, whilst Lance weapons allow no armour save as they are essentially giant cutting lasers. Chucked together two more, both cruisers. A Gothic-class in the rear and a Dominator-class upfront: ![]() I went for these as they give me another Nova cannon as well as some Lance batteries. Got to say I am loving getting into this, nothing quite beats having a fleet of mile long ships. |
