AmmoBunker Newsletter, May/June/July. Brought to you by SC. So, the England football team's tour bus is on it's way to the airport and Emile Heskey has lost several pints of blood after the team entertained themselves by playing pin the tail on the donkey. But nevermind, 2014 is not long away and with any luck we'll have the same line up ready and willing to crash out embarrassingly. Events From Old Guard. You may have noticed good folk, that within the link section of our mighty forum there is a thread about events. This is all about letting you know what’s happening out there and where in the form of Gaming, Modelling or other events that have relevance to the hobby. We welcome any information that you may have on events in your area be that elsewhere in the UK or Internationally. Reviews are also welcome, if you attend an event however big or small and you enjoyed it then tell us about it. If you have any information on something going on near you then post in the thread or PM me, Old Guard and I will add it. For now here are some upcoming events: Wargaming: 3rd and 4th of July GAUNTLET http://www.deesidedefenders.com/gauntlet2010.html Broughton UK 17th and 18th of July ATTACK http://www.ddwg.org.uk/ Devizes,UK 25th of July STOKE CHALLENGE http://stoke-challenge.co.uk/default.aspx Stoke on Trent UK The Newbury & Reading Wargames Society (http://www.colours.org.uk/) hold a show 11th & 12th September at Newbury Racecourse http://www.colours.org.uk/index_files/Page518.htm General Modelling: well I’m going to cheat on this one and refer you here http://www.ipms-uk.co.uk/events.htm the International Plastic Modellers Society website which has a series of events across the year. Historical or reference events: 17th and 18th of July FESTIVAL OF HISTORY http://www.english-heritage.org.uk/daysout/events/festivalofhistory2010/ Competitions Congratulations to Cadian Lord with his nostalgic take on "Boarding Action". Another worthy entry to our Hall of Fame. A word from Dean: Hi all, I feel bad because I normally just throw a line or two down and let Rictus do the banter stuff so I am going to endeavour to tote my own weight around here. So let me announce the competitions. Scratchbuild Challenge: For the month ending June 21st the SB Challenge was won by Hazmat with a very nice Centaur grenadier transport. http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7378013 The Scratchbuild Challenge will continue this coming month. Get in on the discussion on theme and Duration here: http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7381270 July Painting Competition: Digits has been overseeing the painting competitions and this month’s theme was “Boarding Action” and it was picked up by Cadian Lord with his excellent retro facehugger…. http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7378398/1/#new Tale of a Couple Dozen Gamers: If you have an army laying around waiting for paint and no motivation then you should probably look in on this continuing Competition that will run until April 2011 that may inspire/prod you to actually finish an army. Please note that this is a team event. http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/forum/3003473 Special Modifier for July is: Double points for Cavalry: 4 points each for: Bikes, Jetbikes, Knights on horse, Guardsman on ostrich... Caster on horse... You get the picture.... Community threads: Also of note are a couple community threads that have sprang up in the last two months where you can join in and give/receive encouragement: WFB Fantasy community thread: http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7380069/#new Historical/Napoleonic thread: http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7363747/#new And the existing Flames of War thread: http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7087132/#new I’m personally impressed at the amount of community support each of these threads bring in and I wouldn’t mind a few more threads like this. If you and your group would like to start up a specific community thread then go for it! The more the merrier… Anyway… Verily, this vichyssoise of linkage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me Dean. Cheers guys. Note from Rictus The Folder of Members Work is always on the lookout for more members to contribute. So if you haven’t contributed yet why not check out the thread here http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7039040/1/ and for those who have contributed already there is no harm in having more sheets to your name... And for those who've promised pictures please see about sending them soon. Cheers guys. |
