Ok seeming both liquidjoshi and Devuanthule did this, then so will I. Wea re all in a fantasy challenge which begins in September We start off with 1000 points and every month we have to build and paint 300 points to add to out 1000 points so here's my list: Marius Leitdorf 20 Halberdiers with full command detachment of 10 handgunners 10 Hunters 8 Knights with full command Great Cannon Outriders with full command. Why Marius Leidorf, after seeing his rules in WD354 and him single handerly wiping out a whole army I have to use him. Unfortuantely I really can't make much changes as I only have 2 wizards, a priest, hellblaster and 10 great swords which I don't room for. My first addition during September will be a steam tank October will finaly see a wizard and more handgunners so any advice Edited by Captain Wolverine, 4 Jul 2010, 12:36 AM.

looks a strong list. I take it you only have the 8 knights, not 10? although that shouldnt be too much of a problem if playing against horde units as you can just play them in a line and hope not to take a cannonball through them. |

first, I dont pretend to be an Empire expert. If you are looking to expand to 4k, are you looking to do it in 1k chunks or all in one selection? If you were looking to add 3 different chunks, I would say you want an infantry heavy one, a gun heavy one and a cavalry heavy one. this gives you a good rounded army at 4k and a good selection to choose from at anything below that. In the new edition, you probably dont need more than 2 wizards, 1 at level 4 and one at level 2, you decide which colleges they come from when you see the new lores. I'd make sure you have at least a couple of scrolls with them as a last defence. Warrior Priests and their prayers will draw out opponents dice, and if they dont then great. Hellstorms are now much more worth it considering the increase in power given to template weapons (now 40k style everything hit by the template is hit rather than partials). As for combat characters, relatively cheap and cheerful is the way to go, as empire characters arent particularly great. You definitely need a battle standard bearer somewhere in there (with the griffon standard? dont know what it does but its popular with Empire Generals). Also think about having a basic captain on Barded warhorse in full plate armour, shield and lance (no magic stuff) and stick him in with a unit of 10 IC knights and hope for no rubber lance syndrome. Dont be stingy on the core troops. A decent sized unit of greatswords with detatchments supported by 20+ strong units of spear/swordsmen with their detatchments should form a solid core for you. With taking a warrior priest, look to include some Flagellents as they become core. In terms of artillery, no more than 2/3 great cannons as you will run out of firing lanes very quickly and they are easy units for scouts and flyers to destroy, and usually high up on the list. I'd take handgunners over crossbowmen in maybe a 3:2 ratio, as although handgunners are better penetration wise, Crossbows more importantly have the range to hit first turn on a standard battlefield. Finally, Outriders or pistoliers to secure your flanks/take out enemy artillery are a must, and take a steam tank if you want to
