Drop the grave guard, 5 just isnt enough for a convincing unit you cant summon more of. Add lord of the dead to one of the vampires to take you up to your hero limit points wise so you can summon over your starting unit size. I would then use the remaining points to boost both skellie units to as much as you can so to make the most of causing fear.

just boost the unit size on the skellies, perhaps adding spears as well, although with new rules you might be better sticking with HW+shield for the increased save and still attacking in two ranks

Wow, still hyped about Fantasy, huh Dav. Well, having read the army book, i can tell you that you wont win through skill. You need ranks, numbers and hordes. spears are your friends, Vampires work a lot like 'nids in 40k. Numbers, overwhelm them, use necromancers as you would synapse creatures, i understand that the ressurection spell is short ranged. Correct me if im wrong.

I'd better be getting points for helping you on this. If you reading Wolvie...

modified army list: (unsure of points)
lords:
1 vampire
1 vampire on nightmare
core:
40 skellies
20 skellies
10 ghouls
corpse cart
rare:
varghulf
i've got my core sorted, just need to finish the corpse cart conversion and build 2 more ghouls, i'm ordering my lords on wednesday and my varghulf in a couple of weeks.
@liquid: thanks for the advice i too am unsure of ressurection and i shall have to consult the army book, they sort of work like nids but with some sdifferences, namely some very useful abilities such as miasma of deathly vigour

May I reccomend the Gulavhar, the Terror of Arnor figure from The Lord of the Rings as an alternate figure for the Varghulf.
(Many people I know don't like the actual Varghulf figure, and it means you could have both and use two..)

As for your Vampire Selection..

A vampire with the 'Forbidden Lore' and 'Lord of the Dead' powers is a very aggressive character in smaller games,
especially using Death Spells (Which as their special boon feed you more magic dice when you cause wounds)

And remember you can still cast the Vampires Inherrent summoning spell on 4+/ 3+ with Lord of the Dead is real handy.
(meaning you fail to cast on a 1, and can make your Skeletons bigger then they started)

Put him on a Hellsteed and give him 'The Crown' then watch him reap. (Giving all your nearby troops his WS)
This makes your Vampire useful for War Machine Crew Execution Duty -and- Unit Support -and- Character Assassination.

That should help you on your way a little.

dude you can change banners, magical weapons ( between month not between games) just the main unit must stay the same e.g. no removing minis.

You can buy and change upgrades each month

i would add another vampire hero, probably a magicy one to give you some extra strength in that area. also maybe some dire wolves for flank charges etc?

If you had Grave Guard, i'd say take a Wight Lord as a BSB, with the armor that makes him T6.
The Grave Guard would have the Banner of the Barrows, offsetting the loss of WS from the armour.
(Also means your Grave Guard get +1 to hit)
