Hey all i am playing a spearhead game later today using a 3000pts cap...

this is what i am fielding... and it is pretty much my entire collection of constructed marines

175 - Pedro Kantor
135 - Master of the Forge w/ thunderhammer and storm bolter
230 - Devastator Squad (10 men) w/ 4 missile launchers

545 - Ambush Spearhead
Venerable Dreadnought w/ assault cannon
Ironclad Dreadnought w/ hurricane bolter and chainfist
Ironclad Dreadnought w/ ironclad assault launchers and hunter-killer missile


1065 - Mechanised Assault Spearhead
Rhino w/ extra armour
Sternguard Squad (9 Men) w/ 9 combi-meltas (Pedro goes here)
Rhino w/ extra armour
Sternguard Squad (9 Men) w/ 9 combi-meltas (MotF goes here)
Rhino w/ extra armour

380 - Outrider Spearhead

Well, that depends a lot on the tactics, not only on the troops you field. You have a lot of troops, so you will outnumber him and he has to shoot lots of smaller things. While you can cripple by eliminating his superheavies.

well that went rather well, could have gone better for me if i had thought a bit deeper into tactics.

the game ended in a draw at the end of turn 6 with the game devolving from objection grabbing (1 main and 3 minor objectives) into annihilation in turn four as we wiped each objection claiming units off the tabletop.

my favourite point in the game was watching my tank hunter spearhead run the length of the table punching shot after shot after burning lascannon shoot into the Baneblade, immobilising it followed by the ambush spearhead flanking onto the board and ripping it to pieces...

here is what my opponent used;

Baneblade - super-heavy spearhead
2 vanquisher battle-tanks - ???
standard leman russ - ???
2 leman russ battle-tanks - ???
basilisk and two lascannon toting armoured sentinels - outrider spearhead

2 Valkyries w/ storm troopers
2 veteran grenadiers in chimeras (his objective claimers)
Company command squad
3 scout sentinels with multi-lasers

mission was, can't remember the name, an objection grab with a main objective (worth 3 points) and three minor objectives (worth 1 point each)... deployment was escalation (remembered the name for that!!

must get me more dreadnoughts, specifically another God-Hammer for the tank hunters and i need to sort multi-meltas for the land speeder outriders for some extra anti-tank stopping power

will also not bother with the devastators next time, will take terminators instead and maybe field them in a land raider instead of squad of stern-guard/ rhino in the mech. assault spearhead.... well lots for me to think about.

I was surprised to see no terminators, I've head it said many a time that the best thing against superheavies and titans is chainfists. The first baneblade I destroyed was with a termie squad that had three chainfists in it.

next time i will be replacing a few things, having learned from my experiences in this game... so aiming for that this is the list for next time;

175 - Pedro Kantor (for those extra attacks with the chain-fists)

1235 - Mechanised Assault Spearhead (less combi-meltas 'cos i found that i only used half in each squad anyway)
Land Raider w/ extra armour (Pedro will be in here too)
5 terminators w/ 4 chain-fists and an assault cannon
Rhino w/ extra armour
10 Stern-guard w/ 5 combi-meltas
Rhino w/ extra armour
10 Stern-guard w/ 5 combi-meltas


545 - Ambush Spearhead (cos these worked very very well last time round, so no changes)
Venerable Dreadnought w/ assault cannon
Ironclad Dreadnought w/ hurricane bolter and chain-fist
Ironclad Dreadnought w/ ironclad assault launchers and hunter-killer missile


365 - Outrider Spearhead (again this spearhead performed quite well, but still minor changes)
Vindicator w/ siege shield
Land Speeder w/ multi-melta and tornado multi-melta
Land Speeder w/ multi-melta and tornado multi-melta


690 - Tank Hunter Spearhead (an added dread and the removal of the missiles, didn't use em the whole game - i think the added mobility of that shot on the run and the DCC weapon more than make up for its removal)

I think that this army will perform much better than the last one, good job i have those spare assault on black reach DCC weapon arms left from converting my two ironclads...

now all i need to do is convert the AOBR terms to include chain-fists and get me a land raider.... oh and two new land speeders... lol, i know what i am buying come pay day
