Thanks for all the compliments guys it's good to know that I'm on the right track with my boys. The deffcopter is pretty much just the hairspray technique, I will do a guide for the next couple with more in progress shots to show them in more steps. Having thought about weathering some more though, I'm going to try toothpaste and then hairspray in separate layers to see if I can show the undercoat, previous owners paint job and then Evil Sunz red on top :) As long as it does not look too busy it should look quite cool. I have thought about the salting technique as well but last time I tried it it was less than successful lol.

And the finished deffcopter. Really quite pleased with this and the techniques I have practiced will be rolled out across the whole army as I go.

Lovely Deffcopter there! I'll definately be keeping an eye out if you're still planning on doing a wee guide for the next ones!

The weathering looks great but I love the ork skin. Fantastic shade of green.

Thanks guys for the praise, I'm looking forward to getting these 30 boys out of the way now :) I'm wondering if I should do some Ork mind slaves for the Advanced Space Crusade project......

DaCone2; I have not been able to find one yet but will be doing one myself when I carry out the next deffcopters. This one was a tester and I'm happy with the results so will be doing more on the next two.

No pics yet of the boyz I'm doing but will try and post some tonight. I have hit a massive stumbling block in the guise of Ork skin, I wanted the tone to be that of the deffcopter pilot but the paints are really not working for me on 60 arms and 30 heads. I'm going to have to compromise somewhere and find a quicker, easier way to carry it all off. The current skin tone is Orkshade green, Catachan green and then lighten with Kommando Khaki all the way up. Trouble is Cat green and KK have such weak pigmentation that the moment I thin it down it turns into a wash. I'm trying to avoid Knarloc green as I think it is too bright but I might have to have a play around with it later and see what I can do with it. Knarloc green is what was used for the 20 AoBR boys and although they are ok I wanted the skin tone to be darker.

So this is what I have been up to for the past week or so;

And a little something I was trying on the circular back plates;

The idea was to have a stylised Evil sun for the back plate that was up to date and not so 2nd ed (as all the pictures of the evil sun are). Trouble is I could not get what is in my head down on paper and just cant get a stylised icon I like. I will keep trying though as I want some on the warbikes and buggies I will be doing.
I have to admit these guys are really taxing my painting mojo however slowly but surely I am chugging my way through. Only another 27 arms to highlight :blink:

The glyphs aren't set in stone so anything roughly accurate will look perfect :)

Your boyz are coming along really nicely but I'd personally not do the checks etc on the standard boyz beacuse you will end up killing yourself if you did 30! Maybe save them for the more expensive stuff?

I admire your fortitude to put in this level of detail on your rank and file boyz, as it would've sent me over the edge. This is going to look awesome when everything's finished.

I have to admit that wanting a fully converted, individually painted army is totally different to having one :p Truth be told it is not the checks etc that is taking the time but it is the skin. I think I have worked out a viable way now though so I should have more pics later. A rainy bank holiday weekend; its as if I'm being told to stay in and get the Orks finished. Ha-ha no IKEA for me :D

But unfortunately mistaking the sunny weather outside for it actually being warm has meant I'm laid up inside with a bad case of man flu after cycling to work yesterday. This has meant that I in my poorly state I have been able to try something I have been thinking about for ages; namely updating the god awful twin eavy shoota from the Gorka Morka days. Pretty simple work actually and I'm pleased with the results, I know it's not as refined as it could be but after all it is for Orks :D

Weak! A quick cycle and down with man flu- you've changed.

Your handiwork looks good. Not too sure on the drum on the top (especially the mould line) but the barrels look very Orky. Can you get us a scale shot for the length, they look quite long

Ha-ha weak indeed :P Guess it's the old age setting in now, my body no longer likes 20 miles cycle trips and 3 mile runs. I'm a bit softer now than I was in Sutton :D

Got a couple of scale shots as requested. As regards mold lines etc this was just quickly knocked up, my PC skills are totally untried so it was an exercise to see if I could do something I had been thinking about for ages rather than getting it perfect. (the lines will be erased before painting)

I cant remember where I saw it but I'm pretty sure I have seen a gun with this silly type of mag arrangement, some German/Italian WW2 HMG?. But then again it may be my old age.

Lights growing dim, limbs aching?

Thanks for the scale shot, the shootas actually look even bigger than I had thought they look. The barrel arrangement isn't bad, the only downside I can see is that they look to be balanced on the top rather than actually feeding rounds in. If you were to file them down or cut some of the lower portion off it might blend in a bit better.

Yeah point taken, I never really liked the original magazine layout (Bren style) anyway so the next lot will have them on the side/bottom. At this time I wont be using this twin linked shoota at all so it was just practice, the next project after these 30 boys are done (so close to being finished!) is to convert up a 1:35 Chevy WW2 truck. The options in the codex (for a trukk) only allow for a single eavy shoota or rokkit launcher.
