After looking around the ammo bunkers terrain log i finally decided to jump in and have a go myself. So hear we go! I decided to start small, and had an idea for a mining operation themed board ( not very original i know but i had mental block lol). My first building would be a type of mine shaft emergency escape. Not very ambitious i hear you cry, but challenging enough for an absolute newb me thinks. So i bought some fan moulds, Chrystal outcrops, plasticard and foam board from Evil mushroom games that i had seen. ![]() So after a lot of fiddling and a near miss with the Stanley knife this is what i have. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I also had a go at the bunker Rictus put up on hear, this im poetically happy with. The challenge was getting the concrete look for the bunker now the rough coat is no longer an option but i over come this buy watering down some Ronseal wood filler and painting it on with a brush before base coating it. I think this method gives it just the right texture without the concrete finish being too over stated. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So ther ya go, thats how far i am along at the moment, all comments welcome....... |

mine is looking good, as is the bunker. You need to "attach" the pipe to the building some how, at the moment it looks like they have been placed next to each other. Maybe a strip of pcard around the pipe where it rests against the building with some rivets on it? Rivets and hinges would also finish the doors off nicely, putting a bit more detail into the build. Was great to meet you at the bash, even if we only talked for a little bit! |

I see what you mean about the other piece. There's a danger that so much empty space will leave it looking wasted. Maybe stockpile some supplies / mining equipment etc in the large area. Boxes are easy to make, throw a tarp over it and voila! |

yep. Blend that pipe into the ground ( the sand should do that). Agree with Dave Working areas always have general stuff lying around, so boxes, barrels, supplies and tools will give that a real 'flavour'. |

A "Keep Out" sign, task lighting, chainlink fence around it, power generator, tool lockup - to name a few others

Yea im really pleased how the bunker came out, top marks to Rictus for the pattern. The wood filler works really well watered down for the texture I think. Think some barrels and sand bags are gona be the way forward for the nine shaft peace, gona go pick some barrels up from Wakefield GW tomorrow me thinks unless anyone’s got some going spare? Cheers Bear Edited by Bear, 31 Mar 2010, 02:38 PM.

That's a fair amount of riveting mate - looks good. Still think it needs something to break up the base a bit. Stockpiled cave roof girders or wooden beams maybe? Kind of depends on what you use it for....can it me defended or will it be an obstacle? |

Bear how about adding one of those pump towers you see at all these mine complexes, kinda like a small Eiffel tower with a winch /hose running into the ground, doesn't even have to be intact. Also the barrels look a little to ordered maybe add in some barrels half buried in the sand /tipped over/leaking? either way looks better than anything i've ever done keep it up. |

Bloody good stuff mate! I love the mine, recognise something about the ruined building and dig the simplicity of the water filled crater - what did you use for the water?

Find a silver birch and use the seeds as leaves, they look cool. |
