I personally run 3, each different, but all 3 can be quite magic heavy, which is one of the reasons i like them as it makes the game even more different from 40k High Elves - advantages: Always strike first, relatively high weapon skill, unique army scheme as instead of having to take 2 units at under 2000 points, only 1 is needed. also have a large number of special and rare choices to fill in the extra available slots given to a high elf player. oh, and High Magic ![]() disadvantages: low toughness, quite bad armour saves, some units a quite pricy. Lizardmen - Advantages - Cold blooded (roll 3d6 for leadership tests and choose lowest 2), very strong heavy infantry, lots of beasties Disadvantages - unless you take a slann, your max leadership in the army is 8, some of the monsters are quite pricy points wise (especially kroxigor who got nerfed in the last book), again, unless you take a slann, you are stuck with lore of heavens, which isnt particularly brilliant. finally, a poorly thought out magical items section. who the hell wants a 100 point enchanted item that makes friendly cavalry within 12" stubborn and cause fear to enemy cavalry? that combined another page of enchanted items combined with only 3 army specific talismans doesnt impress me. Vampire Counts - Advantages: strong magic, blood knights, undead (summon back units, cause fear, immune to psychology) and some other strong units. disadvantages - expensive points wise. a single skeleton, who has the profile of an empire spearman costs almost twice as much. VCs are also far too reliant on characters because if your general dies, your army tends to crumble. |

Bretononians, are really a case of a large unit of knights who charge about and nuke everyone. That was my experience of them. Fun if you want to win, but not very long lived unless making others cry is your thing ![]() Dwarves, a very fun army, although very static, in the end they are beatable but they are tough and good fun to play. Skaven look really good since their redo and are quite tempting now it wont cost the earth to get an army of them. My pennies worth anyhow

Skaven are mostly a very large army, so you have to be prepared to paint a lot of fur. Dwarfs can have very small elite armies, which hit hard. Some of the newer plastic dwarfs look awefull though... Vampires, I don't really know that well. The choice is your afterall

Why not beastmen? They're new so have the most updated rules, there is plenty of stuff out there for them and from what I understand they look ok to paint too. Another good choice might well be skaven; they're a horde army and fur can just be a simple basecoat and wash thing meaning lots on the field quickly. Dwarves are good but very slow moving- an opposite to brettonnians. Bretonnians are quite challenging to paint, so bear this in mind. Vampire counts also can be quite hard to paint so if I had to reccommend something for you, it would probably be skaven or beastmen or maybe even dwarves. |

Do not listen to these foolish-things. Skavens is the way to go if you wan't to have a long road of victory after victory ahead of you! Us Skaven things have our advantages and nearly no disadvantages! Well I can fill in till skaven as good as I can. +Good selection of warmachines and such, and very funny warmachines that tends to do much destruction to enemy-things. +You will always (Almost always depends on list build) outnumber the enemy. +Great Magic Items! +Good Leadership! +Cheap units! +Cool Magic! +Pretty okay stats! (For the price you pay for a clanrat you get an okay soldier!) +Nice special units! -If you get a missfire/miscast, you can expect things to go very wrong. -If you lose a leader, that means worse leadership. -Skaven does very much relies on the strenght in number rule -Expect to paint alot! -Relies also very much on the special units they have! |

Try out the Ogre Arty list! Bruiser armed with great weapon, heavy armor and the 3 magic items that add to armor save (The anti-mage fist, the challenge gutplate & the other thing) The 1+ unit of Bulls for him to lead. Hunter with Harpoon Crossbow and a pair of Sabretusks. 3 blocks of Gnoblars, the bigger the better. 3 Scrap Launchers. i've seen these up close, and it stings. thats 2 heroes, 4 core and 3 special, add your remaining points to taste. |
