Nice looking 13th company mate, very nice poses and painting. I'll be keeping my eye on this from now on.

Cheers Steve, wish I could say I'll be updating it soon, but the last time was 16 months ago, and I don't see the next update coming any sooner- too many other projects on the go I'm afraid. Maybe when FW release their wolf stuff, or if GW do a new 'dex (long term that is!) then they'll get some love, but for now they're, appropriately, on ice. I could see myself painting a couple for the sake of it (that wolf priest in particular) if I didn't have the cult and my INQ28 to keep me busy on the sci-fi front.

Hello all,

So I decided to jump on board the six months to paint an army bandwagon, as a thoroughly good reason to get some more of my Solar Hawks chapter painted - I've been building the odd bit here and there, and painted a tactical marine and a stormtalon, but that's not quite enough for a proper army. So, to refresh the memory (and with better pics too), here's my stormtalon:

And my one tactical marine :)

So, for month one, I decided to do scouts (I have a bunch more tacticals, but they've been spraygunned and otherwise started, so would seem a bit wrong). Scouts have had the first three colours applied today:

And that's it for now, look forward to seeing 25+ new armies develop on here!

Hadnt realised just how nice that Talon looks. Nice work mate.

Cant wait to see the scouts though.

Cheers guys, glad you like'em! It's a pretty quick scheme as I paint the left arms separately (and the backpacks, and the guns) so there's less tidying up as I go along. Makes painting vehicles (or planning to) interesting though, as I have to figure out white/black undercoat for each section...

My hope is that there'll be a bunch more stuff in here before too long (ahead of the six months schedule) as I have a load of old models to add to this lot, and want to get transports etc done as I go along. We'll see. Scouts are about 60% done now, but I'll get a little more done before I get another pic up.

As a longtime fan of DIY Chapters I like these. The hooded hawk is a very nice idea - a lot of symbology there, with the Astartes being trained predators that the Emperor unleashes. Could easily tie in a story to do with the Khan having a favoured hunting animal in his youth, and your Chapter's founder being inspired by it (or the like.)

Very cool!

Cheers guys

Mol - nice idea, I haven't dug deep into these guys' background as yet, as doing so before I've painted even a tactical squad seems a little premature... But I do have a story for their white sleeves. I plan for an aerial theme to their attacks too, which would work with your suggestion...

Dave - really? You went there? Sheesh.... :D thanks anyway - the trick is, to not paint them yellow..

The armour colour begins as Ungor Flesh (bronzed would be pretty close)

(godawful pic thereof)

Then highlight with ushabti (bleached) bone

Final, finer highlight of ceramite white

... and I'll finish the recipe later in the week (sorry, knackered).

Sheep - cheers mate.

Fireangel - thanks man, hoping to have 500 pts done by the end of this month, which would be ace, especially by my standards!

You having two units finished would be a big thing for you..... ;)
There certainly are plenty of bit of former armies that you have that could be allocated here!
Looking good. Seemingly progressing nice and rapid which is what we like to see. Is that brown fatigues on these guys? Whats the plan for that?

Cheers chaps,

Steve- first up, a drop pod for the tacticals and a storm for the scouts, I also have a devastator squad and another tactical one undercoated and ready to go. Space hulk librarian, repurposed, will get done at some point. I have 3 land speeders ready to go (building on the aerial hunter theme) and will grab a bunch of bikes at some point too.

Mike - it would! Yeah, the aforementioned tacticals/devastators were really quick to build, seeing as I had bodies/legs from earlier projects assembled already. Couple of ex-soul drinkers in there, and some Space Wolf types as well (the tribal, hunting culture means most of their bits fit fine). You just reminded me, I have a dreqdnought and a termi squad somewhere too!

The fatigues on these chaps are scorched>calthan>nuln oil, and I think they're done, hopefully the overall dark tone of them (despite the bright yellow armour) will make them stand out from the tacticals.

Just to show I've not given up already....

After the highlights, it's time for a glaze of lamenters yellow

And then, to finish, some casandora yellow shade in the recesses ( this is the orangey colour you can see better on the tac marine.

Et voila!

Still hoping to finish these guys tomorrow :/

Cheers for the rundown on how you did your yellow mate, I'll file that away for later use! Scouts are coming along grand so far! What camo you doing for their fatigues, if any?

HMD - that really was terrible, i think we should have some sort of penalty jar or something for things like that.

Rise - Your Stormtalon is really nice, ad the scouts are coming along, Digits did say to me though, that it dosent matter if things are already started.

That's quite the difference between the last two posts rise, and a very nice result indeed. Interesting chapter, too.
