we are not all building landers!!!!! i'd like to see this tank size or smaller to be honest- i'm a tight arse and don't wanna have to go out and buy a BB just chop it up (again... yet)
i think quite a focused brief would be good- it'll be good to see the different derections we all take to get to same place.
ideas- war driod, field guns (dave could have a crack at a hovery crew served plasmarailseekermissle thing), deodorant bottle tank?

if its a FW conversion kit type thing then i might take part tho I ain't the best with plasticard. I'm gonna be converting a chimera to my vision of a chaos AT70(from gaunts ghosts) soon, so i might as well take part if im making it.

Knowing me I wont finish in time for the compo tho :( :P

Count me in as well. Sounds fun. I will go with whatever the majority decides. However, I think tank size sounds good, something that can be used in a normal 40k game. 3 months sounds pretty good as well. I work full time and have a 2 year old so my model time is pretty short. But I have a few ideas floating around in my head.

Please don'y make it longer than 2 months. I worn you I will lose interests! I'm not the best with plasticard but once I set my mind on something I can be done within 2-3 days (I'm talking about a full scratchbuild not small conversion)...
Started yesterday...

The chaos flyier was build because I was bored and I wanted to try one...

So a month for me is a lot of time... 2 is fine but I will be angry at myself for finishing too fast and thinking of building another one... 3 is just too much. 1/4 of a year (I might just finish my Great Gargant).

3 is much too long - look how distracted I've gotten on that darned titan.
6 weeks is probably a safe option.

im tempted to say at least two months for those of us that have uni/full time work, i know i struggle to do a build in less than 6 weeks (although i need to)

For me this would have to be a single tank/vehicle conversion or Sratch-build as that's pretty much all that I do at the moment.

Timescales are difficult as it depends on what else is happening in my life and what other projects and/or commissions I might be working on. So 1 month is easily enough time to build and finish a single vehicle if you have no distractions, but equally 3 months can simply whizz by if you have other things going on in your life and not all modellers work at the same speed.

For instance; As you can see from my project logs, I am zipping through projects at a great rate at the moment. That will soon slow down and maybe even stop altogether for a while as I'm getting married on April 2nd.

So it really is up to the organiser(s) to decide on a period of time that allows all who want to enter enter to have a chance to build something, but not too long that entrants loose interest. Making it too short means that only those with lots of spare time have a chance and it may also put off some of the less able or slower modellers. So all in all I tend to think that 3 months is about right.

Other things to consider are:
- What are the judging criteria?
- Will entrants be expceted to produce a new creation or are old ones applicable?
- Are project logs to be maintained during the build or is it done in secret?
- Will entries be judged on photos alone or will the judges require to see the models 'in-the-flesh' so to speak?
- Are there any size restrictions or financial limits (Given some entrants will have much greater financial resouces than others)

I know you are probably already thinking about these things, but I thought I would throw them in the open anyway.

As far as you questions go changling I would run it off the other competitions, to answer your points in order:

Criteria - peeps vote on the build they like the most or the one that they think is the most skilled build

New entries only

Project logs run and you would probably need to show a timestamped pic to show you were starting the project after the competition start.

.Photos alone if we are running a poll...

I don't think a financial limit is really feasible, I certainly couldn't account for how much one of my builds costs me...

That's my preferences on those rules anyway :)

Leaving this open till Friday then I shall make some decisions on size and duration. I dont want to put a limit on composition though because of the diversity of styles, armies, and modellers.
I'll compile everyones opinions and have a summary post tomorrow... Patience northern Dave....

I said 3 months but I think I could easily do less and would actually probably prefer less time as it will be more of a motivator.

Here is my thoughts:
1. Vehicles only, but no Superheavies.
2. 1 month to build
3. Bits are accessories only (i.e Pintel Heavy Stubbers, Aerials, etc.)
4. The main build must be entirely scratchbuilt
5. Any medium or scratchbuilding method is allowed (i.e. Foamcore, paper, Plasticard, wire, Sculpt, etc.)
6. Painting is optional
7. Building Log is required to show progress

I am up for the challenge.

Okay guys, here are your results:

Size:
Turret/Acessory: 2
Tank size vehicle/Small Flier: 7
Superheavy/40k scale BFG ship: 2-3

Duration:
One month: 2
Two : 3-4
Three: 2-3

Alternate Materials: 2

Here’s what I’m thinking and you guys mostly backed me up but I did change my mind on some items:

The February-March Scratchbuild Challenge:
1)Main Battle Tank/Light flier or Smaller. A turret or conversion will be acceptable but must meet the;
2)Content must be of 50% (ish) scratched material. You can use track units off a chimera say but you must build the hull out of;
3)Any material other than paper is acceptable. Plasticard, Foam core, Cardstock. MDF, putty, Greenstuff, copper pipe, PVC pipe. Not paper. Just because. I don’t want somebody to print out those paper templates and tape them together. It cheapens what the rest are trying to accomplish.
4)Accessories (Stubbers, Grab handles, Searchlights, Hatches) do not count towards the 50%. Big flat doors like on Chimeras top and back do. When in doubt ask me and I will make a ruling.
5)Two months. End Date will be April 12, (it’s a Monday so you have the weekend)
6)Final picture for the poll must be supplied unpainted. If you want to supply a painted pict to show how well the bodywork smoothed out then that’s fine but you are being judged by the nekkid build.
7)Progress shots are REQUIRED to be in Project log.

Comment on this, give me feedback and plan on me starting it Monday. Feb 8

Dean, I've got a superheavy scratchbuild already started, 1/3 way through, can I enter it seeing it will still gobble up more plasticard than a Russ size vehicle?
