Just looked through your work so far. A man after my own heart, I am a big gothic fan and of big fleets. I have big marine and chaos fleets along the same idea as your own- they look good together and can pick small parts for gaming. The latest pic of your fleet looks really nice and they look very coherent. As a suggestion perhaps do a few ships with either slight differences in scheme (different squadrons/worlds of construction/repairs etc) or a small number as a separate fleet, such as a detachment from another fleet (maybe even just a cruiser and a squadron of escorts). These help keep your interst and add to the flavour of the fleet.

Supposed to be running a BFG intro game at my club tomorrow so there may be some keen bandwagon jumping this weekend!

I will not give in, I have too many projects on the go as it is. And cookies won't tempt me. Not even if they are double choc chip.

*runs off to download the BFG rules*

Thanks to the inspiration from your log I played a brief intro game with a new guy at the club last night (the only guy to show up too!) so maybe some more gaming on the horizon for me- thanks!

fantastic fleet mate, why are you using a retribution class battleship? they are rather lame compared to the emperor and the apocalypse :P

Excellent scratchbuilt part mate, ive found that BFG imperial models are incredibly easy to scratchbuild parts for, because the masters were such dodgy models to start with, giving a lot of leeway for slight innaccuracies.

Thanks for your comments everyone, all the praise has really helped when the monotony almost became too much :P
Well I'm back from Finland and this is what greeted me when we went out for the Husky ride

I think in the whole time there I saw 150 people in total! Fantastic country although their traditional drink tastes like licking my own foot....

And now for an update! I present to you the flagship of Battlefleet Novus the Victrix.
(I cant remember what translator I used but is said that this was the Latin translation for Victory. I have just checked again and apparently it translates as victress. I cant call it the Victoria or Laurus though so we stick with Victrix)
As for choosing this type of ship when there are better available, I love the look of the ship with all the gun batteries and I got it as part of the bulk deal when I acquired all the rest. In addition I guess that like the Royal Navy at the outbreak of WW2 I just cant shake my faith in the big guns of the fleet. I'm sure game wise I will suffer but then I'm also sure that I will be getting great satisfaction from yelling "port batteries, fire!" and then "load the torpedoes...."

I'm quite happy with how the engine block turned out and the glow of the plasma drives

Now for the moment I am drawing a halt to my BFG project. It was my intention to do a quick project and assemble and paint my residual ships and then concentrate on my Orks for 40k. Well we are now in April and I could quite happily carry on doing BFG for the next 6 months, so for now I will put it to rest (although I will tinker from time to time) and go green for the rest of 2010 :)

The ships look great and the full fleet must be an awesome sight.

Any chance we can have some pics of them with a clean background so they are shown off better?

I plan on doing some more professional shots when I have taken the time to name and number them and I will be doing something like a review of the fleet when I get the chance with all of the ships grouped into squadrons. At the moment though I do not have the facilities to take better uncluttered photos, there seem to be a lot of people having a peek at this log though so I will do what I can as soon as possible.

That is quite the fleet. Very impressive. Paint scheme looks abit like a Blanche painting, which is a plus, too.

That plasma effect on the Retribution's engine is really quite something. Think I'll have to set aside some time to see about getting a similar effect on my own one at somepoint soon!

Can't wait to see more!

DaCone; There are well over 2500 pts in the recently painted fleet and about the same in the fleet I'm currently repainting.

Grizz; At the moment I'm in the process of updating my old fleet so photos soon!

Beautiful work mate, Just a suggestion that looks very cool and makes the game quicker to play - paint the arc markers on the base, just little dots around the rim denoting the arcs. Makes lining up shots far easier, provided you get the arcs laid out accurately of course, if you twist them a little bit you can cheat quite badly lol

Unfortunately I do not have a gaming circle at the moment so my fleets are just for display. However if I do get the chance I will game with these on a moment notice :)

So, updates! These are the repaints of my original fleet which can be found earlier in the log but I will include a couple of comparison pics as well.

Now in the best case scenario I would progress this log further by assembling and painting the battle barges, Ork fleet and Chaos fleet I have. Unfortunately real life rubbish is going to take over for the foreseeable future so god only knows when i will get round to them. I may even have to sell them :(

But for now I have finished my Imperial Fleet! only taken me 10 years lol :D

You really need a black carpet, then you could play BFG apocalypse :D The fleet looks great all together like that, and the SM barges really stand out from the rest of the fleet.

That is one mighty impressive fleet, and a nice coherent colour scheme as well.
