I've been mostly painting warhammer orcs and goblins. Due to certain people within my painting circle of friends who shall remain nameless. I need to buy and paint a 40k army. What would people suggest ? I'm a little bored of paints orc and have so little interest in necrons its untrue. Apart from that i'm pretty open. The few models I have are marine or demonhunters but i'm not against starting something completely different. So what would people suggest ? |

Depends on what you think you would enjoy playing. A close combat, assault based army, like the Tyranids, and some Marine armies. A stand back and shoot army, such as Eldar, Tau, Marines, Imperial Guard. And then considerations of painting, you got a particular colour in mind you want to use, that won't work on a certain army, so that can help narrow it down. I have a daemonhunter army and I really enjoyed painting it, I don't game with it, but enjoyed collecting it. |

is this an army for painting or for gaming? if for gaming, how do you like to play? if you like a large horde force, Nids might be a good idea, other wise marines of any sort or maybe some eldar (not the dark variety). If you werent bored of painting Orks i'd suggest getting Black Reach, as thats two armies to paint, two armies to test to see which one you prefer. |

I'm thinking some thing maybe a bit more ranged based, but mainly something fun to paint. Less models than the orcs in warhammer too ideally |

Eldar might be a good shout then. lots of ranged units with a mix of combat as well, and with each aspect warrior squad a different colour, they should stop you from getting bored painting them as well |

Yeah, i'd suggest Eldar might be the army for you aswell, alot of variety in colour and unit type. James |

If you want to sir RIGHT back, tau would be ok too. But I'm afraid you cant beat Imperial Guard for shootiness. Go mech heavy and paint a few squads of infantry. Hmmmmmm......taaaaaaaannnnnkkkkkkks! |

Though IG could potentially be as big as your O&G one, and skin can be a bitch to paint. Tau is almost as shooty, as can Eldar be, though you'll be able to practice more colour techniques with Eldar. |
