well after nigh on 35/40 years the British army is adopting a new camo pattern http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8422942.stm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-Terrain_Pattern Edited by Old Guard, 20 Dec 2009, 07:15 PM.

Looks good, wasnt a fan at first but seeing it blend in has made me change my mind, will be awesome to get my hands on some of this stuff in 2011 ![]() Guess i should change up all my battered woodland DPM stuff for new DPM while its still around... (for the next two years in the OTC :P) As the wikipedia entry says though, "is this an example of an army preparing to fight the next war assuming it will be the same as this one?" Personally i think no, because its supposedly useful everywhere. A question i would raise however is will "some units" retain the old schemes for environments in which they would be more effective? By which i mean unofficially retain. Edited by Dave38x, 20 Dec 2009, 08:10 PM.

The end two blokes look like they really don't want to be there and the middle guy looks like a nutter!

That nutter is a Lieutenant Colonel !! Interesting to note in that clip just how well the bloke in DPM blends in with the bushes behind. |

Multicam, upon which this is based on, does work very well. it does seem a bit weird after so many years in DPM, and to be fair i dont think that the clip demonstrates it at its best. Of course It going to be a bit pants for the next couple of years with troops wearing bits of old and new, looking like the result of a bargain hunt in an army surplus store! (and there will be some real P'd off puppies who have spent a small fortune on own purchases!) |

Just read that, seems cool. And thankfully it isn't the marpat camo the americans use, not a fan of that, makes the soldiers look like digital men lol. Should be effective, although I do think it would stand out too much on a very dark green northern european battlefield. As Andy said, the guy in the current DPM blends with the bush better than the guy in MPT. But for where the army is now, and it seems, is likely to be for a while yet, it seems a good choice. |

Looks pretty good to me, though i'm constantly boggled by why they think "Hmmm multi cam won by a massive margin, lets change it to incorporate the OLD style too" Just adopt it, and stop mucking around with it! |

Cos if it didnt involve changing something that worked it wouldnt be the british army... Apparently Marpat is actually really really bad... |

MARPAT may not be incredibly good but it works a damn sight more than ACU in a lot of environments... But you can see the American reasoning behind their army's digicam - designed for saltbrush which dominates a large portion of their own country, good for mass-fitting of the national guard etc... The new camo looks pretty good, adaptable to a range of environments which is what a force like that needs. |

because it would not be an MOD ' we know how to spend 3 times more on it than need cost' contract without it. there is a simple solution to the UK's Defence budget deficit. Sack everyone in MOD procurement. |
