Ok so in three weeks on the 9th of Jan I will be taking part in a 500 pt tournement. I have a list and wanted to get some feedback on it. Instead of taking my Ultramarines to the day I figured this is a great chance to start the Khorne army I have sitting around. The basic rules are no models with 2+ saves, 3 wounds is the max, and no armor above 34 AV. There are others but with a khorne army they dont apply. My thinking on the first list is to rush any objectives with the rhinos drop the marines ASAP and hold. But I lack any real punch outside of assault. The second list has the punch but at the cost of speed. I would like to hear some ideas for this? My list as it stands now, 500 Pts - Chaos Marines Roster HQ: Chaos Lord 1 Chaos Lord Mark of Khorne; Bolt Pistol x1; Daemon Weapon; DW: Blood Feeder; Fearless) Troops: Khorne Berzerkers 4 Khorne Berzerkers 1 Skull Champion Power Fist 1 Rhino Troops: Khorne Berzerkers 4 Khorne Berzerkers 1 Skull Champion Power Fist 1 Rhino Total Roster Cost: 500 Created with Army Builder - Try it for free at http://www.wolflair.com I do have another one I am looking at, 500 Pts - Chaos Marines Roster HQ: Chaos Lord 1 Chaos Lord Mark of Khorne Daemon Weapon; DW: Blood Feeder Troops: Khorne Berzerkers 5 Khorne Berzerkers Troops: Khorne Berzerkers 5 Khorne Berzerkers Heavy Support: Defiler Battle Cannon Dreadnought CCW x2 Reaper Autocannon Close Combat Arm Total Roster Cost: 500 Created with Army Builder - Try it for free at http://www.wolflair.com |

take the defiler list, at 500 points its all about the number of models on the table not the upgrades they have. For example my standard 500 point list for tau is 4 battlesuits with a variety of arms and 24 fire warriors in 4 squads of six, almost no upgrades. Its all about bodies

@ Dave38x So you would say quantity over quality then? I was worried about taking the defiler because of the possiable scenarios we will be playing. We are not being provided a list of the scenarios before the tournement. Of course I could dump the defiler and fit more berserkers. |

well your defiler will give you much needed anti-tank with the battle cannon especially if you face guard. Even if youre glancing all game, those weapon destroyed and immobilized results will add up. |

@donanton Interesting as well, it seems I will be facing a mix of all army types. Guard, orks, marine, tau, and eldar. So I might just go with the defiler list. So keeping with this idea of attack, the below list has not only firepower, but also a squad of berserkers on foot to stay with the lord, a squad in a rhino to rush a objective as well. 500 Pts - Chaos Marines Roster HQ: Chaos Lord 1 Chaos Lord (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Mark of Khorne; Bolt Pistol x1; Close Combat Weapon x1; Fearless) Troops: Khorne Berzerkers 5 Khorne Berzerkers (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Power Armour; Mark of Khorne; Bolt Pistol x5; Close Combat Weapon x5; Fearless; Furious Charge) Troops: Khorne Berzerkers 5 Khorne Berzerkers (Frag Grenades; Krak Grenades; Power Armour; Mark of Khorne; Bolt Pistol x5; Close Combat Weapon x5; Fearless; Furious Charge; Rhino) 1 Rhino (Searchlight; Smoke Launchers; Dozer Blade; Twin Linked Bolter) Heavy Support: Defiler 1 Defiler (Fleet; Battle Cannon; Dreadnought CCW x2; Reaper Autocannon; Close Combat Arm; Daemonic Possession; Searchlight; Smoke Launchers) Total Roster Cost: 500 Created with Army Builder - Try it for free at http://www.wolflair.com Edited by arcticblur, 19 Dec 2009, 10:26 PM.

which of those special rules/items are bought as part of mark of khorne and which have you added? Quantity over quality is the name of the game at 500 points, thats definitely a better list, still flippin tiny but definitely better. Your gonna get shredded if the tau player is packin missile/plas battlesuits though (and i would deffo use em at 500 points against marines )

@ Dave38x - Yeah I agree with you there....as I found out today. And to answer the question I only bought the Mark of Khorne for the added attacks it gives. So I mght think about giving it up. I played a test game with another friend who is in the match. He plays guard and brought a decent list. Lord Commisar 6 Autocannon Teams 2-3 Infantry Squads with a mix of flamers and gernade launchers We rolled for Seize objective and ended up with 5 objectives with table quarters for deployment. I used the defiler pretty good to contest the middle objective and block the objective in my quarter. Then ran one squad at the right side objective and managed to hold it thru the game solid with a sqaud and the lord. The real battle ended up being with the squad in the Rhino. I moved it 12" flat out and sat in the rhino for a turn and poped smoke. My buddy tried to shot me but I nailed the 4+ save on that. My mistake came when I moved off the second objective I hed to assault the oncoming squad. Mental note the Rhino is not an assault vehicle and is not meant to be one. I lost the entire squad in 2 turns of assault with a huge squad of guardsmen and the command sqaud with the commisar. He also took the medic option so he got lucky and saved alot more rolls than he should have. The game ended with a draw but was decided in his favor since he took out my Lord with Autocannon fire. In the middle of the game I notice I was wishing I had more troops. So I am now playing around with a few ideas, but am intent on keeping the defiler for sure. |
