I intend to make sure my class join me in observing the silence, they're a pretty good bunch for 9/10 year olds.

Sorry for my ignorance but what's on 11th? In Poland 11th is the Independence Day.

@marcineczek0, the 11th is traditionally Armistice day, the day that the armistice between the Triple Entente (what was left of it) and Germany, to agree to cease fighting WW1, a true, official 'peace' came later of course, with the Paris peace conference and the Treaty of Versailles. But the 11th has now been turned into rememberance day, where the idea is that you remember and acknowledge the feats and sacrifices of soldiers in any war, anywhere.

We will remember.

WWI my favourite history subject. I will be holding my silent minute, and my lit my candles.

Does anyone here have known family that fought in the great war?

I think most of mine fought for the Entente.

My great-grandfather and his 3 brothers fought on the Somme, I've also heard rumours about having had family members fighting at Gallipoli, been meaning to chase it up when I have the time

We had the two minutes silence at the model show today.

They had a bugler doing The Last Post which was very good.

my dads side of the family fought in both world wars, mostly in the navy, my great uncles son was MIA on his first mission over germany, another relative was a met officer who died in 1944 during an air raid (ironically on my birthday) and my dad spent most of the late 50's and early 60's policing Britains crumbling empire.

my aunt was in the indian army during 2 of the wars with pakistan (as a major in the medical corps) and an uncle was in the ghurkas during the Borneo operations during the 60's

(ah the wonders of being stuck with researching the family history due to the fact i can use a PC)

i do my remember the 2 minutes, its the least i can do

Definately a day to remember.

All gave some, some gave all.

Great Grandfather: fought at the Somme in a German Signals Unit
Grandfather: Officer in the Luftwaffe, received the Iron Cross twice on the Eastern Front
Great Uncle: Died storming a bridgehead on the Eastern Front
Great Uncle: Survived a Soviet Prison Camp
Mother: Served in a psuedo military unit as women couldn't serve at the time in the German army

Grandfather: US Air Force Mechanic during Korea
Uncle: Officer in the Army Corp of Engineers
Aunt: Officer in the Army
Father: Officer in the Army, Bronze Star recipient, Commanded the Patriot Brigade that intercepted all Iraqi Scuds during Operation Iraqi Freedom (which is where my Vostroyan 11th get their name).

I have far to many relatives that served in the great war to mention.

As for now, including myself - i have around 100 members of my family currently serving in Afghanistan, cousins and such. So far as i know my family holds a record for the amount of family serving in the same combat zone in the British Army.
