Hello chaps, some of you may remember the last time when we went to WHW when i posted a report of the day, *cue sounds of groaning and "not again"*, well yes we went again, unlike last time however, instead of one giant 6,ooo points aside game, the three of us decided to play a couple of low ley 1,500 points games. I wanted to test a guard list i have been writing before i commit to buying (because my income is lower then a third world countries food output) so i can't afford to buy an army that would be inneffectual and i'd have to do loads of overhauling to get it to work. Fraser tried a small version of his Mechanised Elfdar (many laughs were had with his transports). Olympian decided to take 1.5k of his sisters, and we will discuss this later. Anyway, after a bright and early start, we picked Fraser up from the Train Station here in Doncaster and then Olympian realised he had left his TomTom at home...a quick nip back there and the trip seemed to take all the longer going down the A1 instead of the M1, but oh well...we arrived...EVENTUALLY! After getting in and making our purchases for the day (you can't go the WHW and NOT buy anything) we set up with the games, what follows are the stories of these battles: BATTLE 1 Sachiel Vs Fraser Guard Vs Mech Eldar We decided to play a Spearhead game, but as we couldn't find the victory conditions (we are a bit out of practice), so Olympian (as the games supervisor/rulebook guy) decided that we would have an objective in each others deployment quarter which we had to take, whilst defending our own. Deployment was as follows: The Brave Ranks of the Imperial Guard: ![]() The Eldar hiding as usual: ![]() Onto the game and I won the first turn, so advanced with one platoon and held the other in reserve around my objective with my mortar squads and snipers. My two russes trundled forwards ready to shoot at anything which came around the corner of a building down the main throughfare of the ruined town. My Veterans also moved forwards, then ran, ready to unleash melta death at any of the eldar grav tanks which was stupid enough to come into range. The Rough Riders moved quickly down the edge of the board to outflank the eldar quarter. In Frasers turn the majority of the eldar moved, the Fire Dragons wave serpent moved down and unloaded them into the ruins directly next to my Russes...Damn! Another Wave Serpent moved flat out and crossed the table towards the Rough Riders. Spock, the Farseer, accompanying the Fire Dragons cast Guide on them, then they proceeded to blow up my first Russ causing an explosion which also claimed the life one a brave Veteran...First Blood to the Eldar! ![]() Turn two began with the Veterna wanting Revenge, they moved forwards again in order to blast the Wave Serpent which had brough the fire dragons out of the sky with their meltaguns, The other Russ trundled forwards again, second platoon continued to advance into the ruins for cover. And The Rough Riders prepared for their crowning glory moment considering that Fraser had been kind enough to put a Wave Serpent close to them. The Veterans began with Bastonne giving the "Bring It Down" order on the squad, and they fired. 3 Meltagun shots from just over 8" away, SHOULD HAVE DONE SOMETHING!!! ![]() The Rolls were as follows, The first Veteran got something in his eye and fired wildly, The Second Veteran hit the tank but must have turned the power setting down on his gun. The final veteran Fired and Penetrated the Tank...WooHoo...then i rolled a one on the table, so the Transport couldn't Shoot next turn...DAMMIT! My Mortar Squads turned out quite useful, de-turreting every Transport which they aimed for, This was both a blessing and a curse, because i couldn't roll to kill anything, but i was taking a lot less casualties from enemy shooting. The Remaining Russ shot at the fire prism but the shot scattered onto the single deployed Dire Avenger squad and killed 4 of them, AT LAST some real casualties caused by guard shooting. Finally in this turn, the Rough Riders and their crowning moment. They were within charge range of the Wave Serpent so went for it, 6's to hit and i rolled 4, 5's to penetrate (hunting lances) and i got 2 6's, then i rolled a 6 for an explosion and killed off 4 rough riders and half of the Dire Avenger squad which was being transported: ![]() *cue time for a "Bro Fist" because of the lulz* Frasers turn and the eldar display their true qualities with the fire dragons getting back into their transport, with Spock accompanying them, and chasing after the Russ, a Squad of Dire Avengers jumped out of their Transport and proceeded to Bladestorm the Veterans to death, ouch. Over of the other side of the table, the remaining Dire Avengers from the squads deployed and set about Bladestorming the Rough Riders...none survived, BUT THEY HAD ALREADY DONE THEIR JOB! Turn 3: Second Platoon, now holed up in cover, began firing at the deployed Dire Avengers with one casualty from a squads Auto-cannon, this was with the cover save re-roll order, my luck just seemed to desert me... The Russ moved forwards again and fired at the fire prism again, this time scattering onto the other Dire Avenger squad and killing three. ![]() The Sentinels fired their missile launchers at the Wave Serpent whose Dire Avengers had killed the Veterans, and blew its turret off, likewise the Mortars did the same to another transport, and stopped a Fire Sprism from firing this turn. Fraser proceeded to unload Spcok and the Fire Dragons right at the back end of the Russ: Then sent its crew to meet the Emperor...:( ![]() Then he displayed true Eldar mentality and retreated to his objective and forced a draw, I was never going to get to his objective and i had "Castled" my objective too well with first platoon, the heavy weapon squads and the sniper (WHO DID NOTHING ALL GAME!!!!!) We decided to call the game there as we were quite hungry and wanted to go and fill our stomachs: End of game picture: ![]() Onto Lunch, as anyone who has been to WHW will know, Bugmans cook really nice Burgers, we just happened to fill our table with all three sizes of Burger. I chose the Bugmans Burger, just a normal quarter pounder, as seen in the front of this photo: ![]() Olympian tucked into a "Fat Bloke" (so named from the editor of White Dwarf when it used to be good): ![]() And Fraser set about a "BELLY BUSTER"!!!!! ![]() However his eyes seemed to be too big for his belly: ![]() After a drink in the bar it was onto game 2: Olympian Vs Fraser Sisters Vs Mech Eldar Sachiel as acting adjuicator/rulebook guy Now as adjudicator i remembered that Olympian said that he didn't like forests, so i rearranged the terain more to suit. Whereas before we played a Spearhead, this time the mission was Take and Hold with 5 objectives, Olympian deploying closest to the camer, Fraser on the opposite side of the table: ![]() This picture shows you after the first turn of movment when The Cannoness in the Immolator shot forwards down the right flank accompanied byt he Penitent Engines, the rest of the sisters had advanced towards the first objective: ![]() Fraser meanwhile spent a lot of time dithering about what to do. Fraser had placed Spock with the Fire Dragons over on the left flank secure from all firing, along with the Fire Prisms, but Olympians indentured Sentinels had clear LoS down the very edge of the board and immobilised the Wave Serpent before it could move, with Indignity, Spock started to footslog it accross the table. ![]() Score: Olympian 1 - Fraser 0 Turn two began with a rush from the sisters moving forwards and holding 2 objectives now, the cannoness and the Engines moved purposefully toards the closest targets, the Sentinels moved back around the building and shoot at something else, and the Excorcist fired and immobilised another Wave Serpent. ![]() The Retriutors fired from cover and killed a single Dire Avenger: ![]() Again, not much happened in Frasers Turn, other then a Wave Serpent managed to kill one sister with its turret weapon. Olympian 1 - Fraser 0, 1 objective contested Turn three began with the Cannoness, still in the immolator, moving past and turning to shoot the closest Wave Serpent with the turret Multimelta: ![]() KABOOM! *cue photo of Smug Sisters player*: ![]() The Cannoness then bailed out and assaulted the Dire Avengers which were left: ![]() the charge: ![]() what were elft: ![]() and after Frasers exarch flailed his arms around and cried like a little baby: The Excorcist fired and immobilised ANOTHER Wave Serpent. The Penitent Engines turned and snipped at the closest transport with their close combat weapons, immobilising it. Inside, getting tired of watching "Guardians gone wild" on Ulthwe-vision, the Dire Avengers deployed with a purpose around an objective: ![]() Spock, meanwhile, had legged it down the side of the table and decided to bed down in the ruins with the Fire Dragons, Sexy Eldar Shenanigans then followed: ![]() *shudder* Olympian 1 - Fraser 0, 1 objective still contested. In Turn 4, the Seraphim, after having killed off a couple of Avengers, moved over to where the next combat would be, unfortunatley for them, the Excorcist fired at and blew up the wave serpent they were heading for, killing one of them in the process: ![]() The Penitent Engines fired their Heavy Flamers at the Dire Avegners, wiping out the unit in the process: ![]() Fraser got confused as to which army he was playing howver, and tried to make a phlegm attack thinking he was playing his Daemons. The Cannoness, after having wiped out the rest of the sqaud, was faced by the insane heroism of the last remining Dire Avenger of the squad, as he ran forwards shouting and waving at her wanting a hug: ![]() She Ran him through and Fraser was not amused: ![]() Fraser had lost Skimmers left, right and center and only had a Wave Serpent left and a Fire Prism, hich was filled with Klingon style Death or Glory, shouting Ramming Speed, it swept forwards into the Excorcist... ![]() and did...NOTHING, no damage at all, to either vehicle. Olympian 2 - Fraser 0, 0 objectives contested. Turn 5: The Final Turn becuase WHW was closing shortly: The Sentinels fired their Lascannons at the last reminign Grav Tank, and missed: ![]() Fraser reaction was classic and echoed around the hall: ![]() with not much leftthat he could see, Olympian's shooting and assault phases were wuite short, and Fraser didn't have anything left with which to do much anyway, only Spock and his ineffectual red blobs moved this turn again: ![]() The state of the table at the end of the game: ![]() FINAL SCORE: Olympian 2 - Fraser 0, 0 objectives Contested. End game photo: ![]() A quick whip round for some other photo's of tables and such whilst there was as follows: ![]() The Forgeworld Table, reserved as usual when we got there. ![]() ![]() The "what you can do if you have an unlimited budget" table, rather nice, but alas, reserved when we got there. ![]() A rather nice Sisters combat force on display in the WHW shop. ![]() My favourite piece of John Blanche artwork which was on display on the day. ![]() And Fraser got mugged on the way out. Overall, not a good day for the lad from Stockport, but immense fun. We are thinking of having another day out at the beginning of December, so if anyone else would like to come along for a day of fun, laughs, and stupidity, you are welcome, please remember that was don't care about winning so don't turn up with that mentality! Lessons learned this time: Smaller games are more fun, Olympian learned this at last. MY Guard list worked a charm, i think i might Drop the snipers though, they did nothing. Fraser leaned that on a normal sized board, 6' by 4', not EVERYTHIGN needs to be mechanised. Fraser also learned not to have the BELLY BUSTER again. If you want to play on one of the special tables, ring up and reserve it beforehand! Finally, on the way home we spotted Herbie, and after following it for 4 miles and trying to jump 0out of the car and get back in in heavy traffic in Nottingham town center, this is the best photo i got of the Love Bug: ![]() We swear the driver must have though we were nutcases ![]() anyway, i hope you have enjoyed reading this, bring on december, WHW still wont know whats hit it...again! - Sachiel |

indeed fun was had by all leason lerned about Nun's with guns! - the Penitant engine when it works it works very well but expensive in points as you need a preast on the army as well and the minicher falls apart at a drop of a hat should of been made out of plastic. Defanatly looking forward to WHW day out 3!!!

Good report, sounds like some fun times - next time your down let us know, might drop by. Top tip when playing Guard against Eldar, surround your tanks with infantry so that they can't get Fire Dragons withing 6" otherwise they will kill you everytime. |
