Did it always suck? I mean, literally first time in years I do it, (My 8 year old niece wanted to) and it wasn't even a bad costume. Personally I blame Bonfire night, instead of people going round in costumes it was just the constant sound of amauter firework displays, why dress up for candy when you've got fireworks to throw at each other?

Not only that I think people have forgotten the trick part,so afraid of being done for vandalisim and such we forget to TP and Egg the houses of rude people! Now only the kids who already have almost permanent tags dare and even then its usually bricks >_>
Next year I'm making a [well, someone needs a cool off period]ing space marine costume and fashioning myself an egg shooting Boltgun to remind people that they don't give out of kindness...they give out of FFFEEARRR!

Well failing that I'll wear a mask and a hoodie and brick windows to remind people to appreciate the cute little witches and goblins.
Heh...do want a Space Marine costume though, make it and stand outside my local GW before it oipens and make it look like a promotional thing, occasionally bellowing 'For the Emperor!' and scaring people.

Plenty of kids around our way, and most of them had made the effort to dress up quite well. All well behaved and we had laid sweets in, so were well prepared. Enjoyed it muchly.

Our tradition- but we do with it right with the whole dancing naked arround stones in a field in the moonlight, mashed off you tits on shrooms thanking the gods for the harvest

typical americans to ruin that too

well i say americans, but i'm sure equal blame can be placed on the aggresive expansion of early christianity and its amalgamating of local celebrations

Yeah us Bastards! >_<
Personally I blame Christianity too, before it came along the biggest religious empire was still the Romans but their attitude to religion was...'oh You have a God of war called Toutatis? Ours is called Mars.' Not 'A god that isn't ours?! KILL THE NON BELIVER!!!'
Got rid of or copy and pasted over all our cool pagan rituals and celebrations.

Well, actually as far as the Christians go, the Romans went 'What? You are monotheistic? KILL THE NON BELIEVERS!!!'

But that's nothing to do with anything, I'm sorry you hada bad time.

I pray to the Dark Gods nowadays, believe what you want, Chaos wins in the end no matter what.

As for trick or treating kids Ive just tired of the "trick" beeing pure bred vandalism now, its not something as simple as egging or TPing a house, they seriously wreak stuff here and think its fun and most dont want candy, they want money .....

Yeah the vandals really spoilt it, rule is, if you dont make the ffort you dont get candy..i remeber one time three guys wanted candy..the day before hallowean and all they'd done was buy one trident between them. and one was pretending to have no head by putting it in his jacket.

Hey, now that's a whole different story. The night before halloween is traditionally Beggar's Night, which entails going out relatively costumeless and completely pasted, and asking for candy.

It's great fun, and not something to be taken lightly.

They also threatened to brick my house >_>
But I do think Hallowean should be like a multiple night thing.

That's not how the game is played. Mace the bastards with my blessing, then. You seem to live in some kind of perverse joyless hellhole where everything that should be gleeful and inebriated is instead violent and dark.
