I've always been in love with the idea of a heroic infantry charge, much like the Charge of the Light Brigade (well, that was calvary but...) and the gruelling trench warfare of WW1. So, this is the army that has been inspired by that idea (tactics at the bottom) HQ *CCS: 345pts -Lord Castellan Creed -Colour Sergeant Krell -Medic -2x Sniper Rifles -Astropath -Officer of the Fleet -Cammoline For an Infantry army, Creed is the best general you can buy. With all his special rules, and the amount of orders he has, he plays a pivotal role in keeping the army together. The Snipers are there as the unit keeps back in some cover to give orders and use let the rest of the army use Creeds LD. They'll be useful in pinning down any assault units that start to look a little scary. The advisers are there to get my storm troopers on the table quicker and hinder my enemy's chances of getting reserves on too. *Lord Commisar: 95pts -Melta Bombs -Carapace Armour -Power Sword This is the man that will lead my 50 Conscripts. LD 10 on my conscripts will make them a nice little tarpit/ anchor in my lines. I think they'll make a decent counter assault unit with this guy leading them. ELITES *5x Storm Troopers: 115pts -2x Meltas *5x Storm Troopers: 115pts -2x Meltas These guys will hunt tanks and heavy infantry. I have a lack of AT without the armour, so I have to rely on these guys to do the job for me. With Creeds special rule, I can outflank one of these units to make a suprise for an unsuspecting enemy. If not, I'll just deepstrike or infiltrate these guys. And the big bit..... TROOPS INFANTRY PLATOON ONE: 975pts (120 men!?!?! o_O ) *PCS -Officer w/ Power Fist -3x Meltaguns -Heavy Flamer *10x Guardsmen -Grenade Launcher *10x Guardsmen -Grenade Launcher *10x Guardsmen -Grenade Launcher *10x Guardsmen -Grenade Launcher *10x Guardsmen -Grenade Launcher *50x Conscripts *3x Lascannon Teams *3x Lascannon Teams *3x Mortar Teams *3x Mortar Teams *3x Autocannon Teams INFANTRY PLATOON 2: 430pts (58 men!?!?!?) *PCS -Officer w/ Power Fist -3x Meltaguns -Flamer *10x Guardsmen -Grenade Launcher *10x Guardsmen -Grenade Launcher *10x Guardsmen -Grenade Launcher *10x Guardsmen -Grenade Launcher *10x Guardsmen -Grenade Launcher The 'meat' of the army. With 169 infantry here, these guys are going to be scary. I may combine some of the squads to make them more durable, and to have a little more hitting power for orders (1st rank fire, 2nd rank fire for example). I may Outflank the 2nd of the platoons to scare my oppoments with an extra 55 infantry. The trick with these guys is to set up a firing line, and send a couple of scarficial squads to hold the enemy down so i can have another round of shooting against the attacks. The nastiest unit will be held by the conscripts led by the Lord Commisar, to pin them down. Objective missions will be my friend, but kill points wil be... interesting! I am worried thet people my try and pull the refused flank stratergy against me and fight me piecemeal. If it comes to that, then outflanking the smaller platoon may be a good idea. Spearhead will be fun trying to fit 197 models in one small area! This isn't for tournaments (I'll add tanks and aircraft later to make my army a little harder), and it is my next army. I want to keep it infantry though. Please help me before I spend alot of money on this army. Cheers, DK |

I usually run a more armored cavalry feel, so take my input with a pinch of salt. Creed is overpriced for what he delivers. He costs the same as multiple HQs, and guard aren't marines. its ok to lose twenty! Your platoons are bunched up too much for an infantry horde. If you want a gunline, go all the way and break up into smaller platoons to really deliver possibly even obliviate that need for armor. (not that you wouldn't want lots of artillery!) The PCS are pretty solid, but will serve you better with 4 flamers - 20 points for S5 doesn't really do you a whole lot of good, and can be used for more men. My suggestion then is: Platoon: (73 men) PCS: 4 flamers, PF. 2x squad (8, Grenade Launcher, Autocannon) 5x Heavy Weapon (lascannon - here's your AT punch. 15 Lascannons can excite any army list, or get the attention of a Titan!) 3x Special weapon While this won't tarpit anywhere near as effectively there will be screams during setup, especially when you bring multiples to bear. The Flamer PCS, and possibly flamer SW squads will provide a lot of help in whittling down hordes that get close...and there's lots of flame templates. If you step down this build to say Autocannon HWS you save a *lot* of points and gain the ability to remind marine equivalent armies that the guard are not to be trifled with. The best thing about changing your build like this is it lets you scale to a much larger game *very* quickly. 1 PCS for every 20 men will let you deliver *insane* firepower - especially if you match it with HWS Otherwise: Dump 10 conscripts and the heavy flamer in exchange for Marbo. At 65 points there's no excuse not to bring Marbo. |
