Not sure if this should go in here or the Rules Forum, but I wanted to ask a large sample size of people about bases, specifically base size. I really dislike the 25mm GW miniature bases and want to use the 30mm lipped Warmachine style ones, as they are more stable (sick of knocking models all over the place when I reach over the table), look nicer (main reason) and are in my experiance easier to model terrain on (filled with static grass goes well with the lip).

So I guess my question is who would be opposed to me doing this, and for what reasons, and who wouldn't? I play mostly in a friendly environment and no one I know personally cares but I'm throwing my question out to the general wargaming community before I go spend hundreds on a pure Kasrkin army and get told to GTFO by everyone.

Personally, Not a problem. Are your gaming buddies okay with it?

The book says "the base that comes with the model or bigger". The only problem is if you go to an acutal GW tourny or event with your minis. They have a "GW products only or scratchbuilt" policy.

Edit: and we may move this to rules after you get a few replies

I don't see any problem if you game socially, but at tournaments you could upset GW. However, I have to say they might not worry too much about bases.

its things like having the head rucksack and all the pouches made by another company on 20 guardsmen that they may take issue with...

Haha, I'll be fine then. I avoid powergaming 13 year old Comic Book Guys with their dual lash/oblit crap tournaments like the plague.

As far as I'm aware the bases aren't an issue at Tournaments, rather the components that make up models as Dave 38x said.

With bases I think its simply a case of that when you play you take the consequences. If a bigger base means someone can fit more models around yours in combat or makes it easier for them to reach you in a vital charge, then you have to live with it.

To be honest as I'm going to be playing mechanised Veterans (Guard) if I have infantry on the table it means their Chimaera got blown up and they're about to get paggered by every Strength 5 and below weapon in the enemy army so I don't think they'd last long anyway! :D

I actually think that someone on this side had problems with those bases in a GW shop. I can't remember which one, but I thought I read it somewhere.

As your gaming buddies are ok with it, then it shouldn't be a problem.
