Can someone explain the appeal of the greenskins, as I hate them and can't seem to see why anyone would. This also goes for: Dark eldar, and Necrons. |

Are you talking from a modelling and painting perspective, or a fluff one? |

well my guess would be that it allows the owner of such an army to shout out "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH" every time they charge their oponent. |

Well as this is a modelling and painting section, stick to that. DE - crap models - enough said. Necron - potentially very cool models - easy to paint and build. Orks - conversion opportunities abound, lots of different ways to paint them, fantastic models. |

So basically you're asking us to defeat, or justify, your stubborn opinionated streak? No thanks, Andy. . . Dave out. |

Well as a collector of Orks and Necrons i'd rather ask you to explain your hatred of them being that so many people obviously like them, what is it in particular that you dont like? |

I can see the brutish appeal of the orks, and the undead style and fluff of the necrons - not to mention they are a great first army for kids, easy to paint. Dark Eldar not so sure about, a bit lacking in variety and awful models. With a revamp could work though. |

Indeed not. I think Black Templars are dull, you don't. I love Orks, you don't. I don't need to start a thread about it.

personally agree with ricky and HMdave here... however some people (myself included) love the stylised skeletal design of necrons/their equipment, the look of the weapons, when converted (like VOTWs) they look even more wicked. As for orks, personally im not a fan but i love the character of the tanks people like rictus kick out. And finally, regarding dark eldar, their tanks and jetbikes have rather good lines, even if the models are rather dated. So those would be some opinions mate... |

This si why I'm asking I have no real tangible reason why I hate them, so I am just asking why do other people like them and maybe I can find an answer to my own problem or maybe find a way into to like them. no need to be all PMT about in HMD, Antipope and dave38x. Also place in wrong forum moving now. |

Orks are excellent if you drop the whole comedy bit. They are genetically engineered killing machines that can adapt and survive in almost any enviroment. The can also build vehicles and weapons from scrap, everything that they need to survive is genetically encoded into their DNA. Basically if you forget the whole "We iz da boyz" thing and look at them for the brutal killing war machines that they are they are very appealing. They will never try stopping to kill you and when their enemies are all dead they turn on each other. The more they fight, the more powerful they will become. Necrons are pretty cool as well. They are ancient beyond belief and are death incarnate. The cultural references of other races such as the Grim Reaper come from the fear of Necrons. They will enslave and harvest every living soul and never tire from their duty. Dark Eldar are a lot more complicated than most people think. They are all about greed, power and betrayal. The sole purpose of a Dark Eldar is to claw his way to the top of his cabal and reap the rewards of power. They are cruel beyond imagination, masters of torture and torment and will kill simply for pleasure. |

I don't think that HMDave, other Dave and Ricky were being PMTish (new word) Wolvie, just maybe they thought you were jsut stating that you hate these armies, for no apparent reason. However now you have explained that its because there is no apparent reason that your now trying to fathom out, thats ok. I like the Necrons, simple to paint, easy to get looking good. Orks, never been a fan, but I appreciate the charm they hold for some people. Perhaps its due to you having your more recent armies as being Marines (very regimented and ordered and "neat"), IG (similar to marines, regimented organization and uniform), Eldar as well, all neat and tidy and ordered. Orks are not, they don't have a uniform, they have a very rough organisation, perhaps it is partly this? |

Werent the "Krork" (and the eldar for that matter) bioengineered by the old ones as a specific counter to the Necrons... Another pov is that the orks are the "uneducated" brutal, tribal army that routed and killed Her Majesties army in South Africa using only sharpend implements. They are an Archtype. If you throw out one archtype you need to throw out all of them.... |

just to throw in my 2pence worth, i've always liked orks, always stayed well clear of doing an army of them for myself due to the sheer bulk of figs you have to paint, but i love the animalist organization they have and the scope you've got play with in terms of figs and styles. and there's always the comedy of fightin fer fightins sake- they're as close to pirates 40k gets. necrons- god that was a quick brain storming sesion wasn't it- shoe-horn in some hastily knocked up war droids dark eldar have had the potential to be 40k dark elves (and i don't like them either) but its like they got borred with the whole concept as soon as they came up with it, that and most of the models are shite |

every psychic race was (including humans), unfortunately the enslavers kinda put paid to that concept, and the crons just went into suspended animation. |

There is more than that to the Necrons I feel. They represent something truly, truly ancient in the 40k universe. They predate even the Eldar. Also, IMO even more so than Chaos, they represent a true, uncompromising evil in the 40k universe. It's in the Tyranids instinct to consume en masse to multiply, Chaos fight to conquer the Galaxy yet the C'tan wish to destroy it utterly for no other reason than the fact that life is inimical to them. The Necrons need a new book, they need something else in the Troops section of the list and a few of the models need updating but otherwise, in concept and execution I believe they are unique and solid as a force. Hmmmm, i personally love orks due to the sense of character that can be applied to an army. As they can both be hilariously fun in a grimdark eniverse, or can also be brutally mean and strong. As for the necrons i have to say i love the imagry of thousands of them marching relentlessly and silently upon the enemy. On top of that some of the models are awsome. Would be awsome if they redid necrons though. I would certainly love it if they got a scarab swarm model like the forgeworld rippers. One that looks like it could do something. I also would like to point out the comedy element the orks bring, like the kommandos hiding in barrels and behind bushes. You couldn't get away with that in any other army. |
