I've been looking at the new 4th edition tyranid codex that comes out in 2010 and i was just wondering why do we need a new one i mean don't get me wrong I love nids there my 2nd biggest army but I like my 3rd edition and really what else can GW do with them at this time? what is AB"s opinion on this new codex?

wont this be 5th edition nids?

i was under the assumption from a mate who plays nids that you were seriously lacking in anti tank stuff after the changes to things in the new edition, although i could be wrong

Because Genestealers get 'preferred enemy' for next to nothing. That didn't used to mean so much in 4th but in 5th, high WS plus rerolls to misses is deadly. Conversely rending isn't what it was so points will needed to be adjusted for stealers there too...

Nids need to be made into the ultimate Swarm army in 40k again. Right now the Orks can outswarm the nids and thats wrong.

Also, because it'd be nice to have a new book, new models etc. The Nid's deserve it. It's been years since it was done. New creatures to be introduced and not to say the least, because the present codex is designed to work within the structure of 4th edition, not 5th.

Theres actually any number of reasons why, this is a stupid topic.

Edit- Then again you are apparently playing an edition behind everyone else so...there you go.

true 5th edition has messed with nids and necons quite abit that's why I wonder why gw when for nids 1st and not Necon.

I just think it's a case of Nids being more popular, therefore more urgent. I love Necrons, but they are at present a niche army.

Alas, the old argument of they'd be popular with support springs to mind :P .

Who am I kidding, Space Undead? Yeah Right....

Yeah, the argument occured to me whilst I was typing that. But trying to understand GW logic sometimes is like attempting to measure infinity.

There's nowt wrong with undead in space! lol

IMHO, the nids have plenty of anti tank stuff already, as well as the universe's hardest to kill tank! I've always feared coming up against a nid "armoured company" of carnifexes. They are insanely cheap for their survivability and their ability to dish out pain.

Anyway, if the rumoured plastic trygon and flying gribblys are correct, then this is a cheap dex to sell mucho models. I also suspect they will hope that having sold out of their space hulks, that new members to the hobby will be wanting to buy nids. Little do they realise that 90 odd percent of the copies sold were to nostalgic veterans!

Yeah I thing the poor dark ones are lost to the warp forever I think it would be nice to see some new never befor seen units for the nids like a replacement for the biovore or even the hive mind it self wha ha hah ha!

The biovore dont need replacing imho, and the hive mind itself? thats just not possible, by the very nature of a hive mind. The largest creatures were fielded in epic a long time ago, but we are talking twice the size of the largest titan model for nids at the moment...

While the Biovores don't need new models, the odd tweaking of the rules to make them a viable option would be nice.

Obviously there's 4 'new' models of units not done previously to come out, I'd imagine the Trygon is to be lumped in with that.

From the current selection, Gargoyles in plastic would be fantastic, and I wouldn't mind Zoanthropes as well, but that's probably a wee bit too hopeful for now.

plastic trygon is coming out(apoc obviously)plastic gargoyles(finally) i've heard the gaunt boxes will be split into seperate horma/turdagaunts 10 for 12 squids and the one of the new beasts is the malanthrope(ive heard from gw staff

stop complaining how 5th edition ruined nids,in my opinion it made em awesome

I came up against Nids in a tournament a while ago, and he'd taken loads of big nids. Now if I recall the ranged weapons you give nids use the models base strength and you can add stuff like adrenalin sacs, so my armour was slaughtered as there were S8 and S9 weapons flying all over the place - ouch!
But an update will be good, and I agree they need to make them a swarm army, they should be swarming across the table and dragging you down in close combat

I don't get why 'nids was newed up either, plenty other codexes need a general update.
... Grey Knights having Drop Pods might be nice >_>
Although if they update the Inquisition codexs I might not be able to use the Daemonhunter Elite Inquisitor and Witchunter Vindicare loophole...

they get a new dex cos they are popular and GW does new dexes for most armies each edition, with one or two, or three exceptions...

or 4...
