I'm sure you guys have all heard of Maelstrom Games, and no doubt some buy your stuff from them. Their old store was based in my home town but I only went in once and it was small and compact. However, I noticed the other day they have moved to a new store in town - here. I haven't checked it out yet, but I intend to one day this week, work permitting. On a more interesting note I then discovered they are doing this. Now I am spoilt having WHW just down the road, and this is now the same distance the other way. I noticed that they are going to have around 70 tables come early next year, all with a shop downstairs. Ok, so they don't have Bugmans, but on the plus side, you can play what games you like, so I can now play FoW somewhere (another game system to collect and paint!). I also noticed that the hall will be available for hire - maybe a future bash to allow us to play none GW stuff? Just a thought. Anyhow, anyone in the Mansfield area going to be checking this out? |

Hmmm, a Bash with non GW games sounds good in principle, but how would we cover costs? Dave out. |

That's the mods department - I'm not finacially minded enough to organise that sort of thing. However, I imagine that Maelstrom games wouldn't be too disappointed at a few dozen of us turning up with money in our pockets. Plus they can sell us sweets and nibbles from beihnd the counter and make a few quid off of us. As I said, just a vague sort of notion. |

Its more a case of needing a guaranteed number of people to turn up on the day and pay or, as is more likely the case, them wanting payment in advance and us having to send money to a mod to pay for us. And even then, if we did pay in advance, what would we do about people who hadn't paid and turned up on the day. Dave out. |

what he is saying is if we were to use there, tickets would be needed, and if more people bought tickets, then the spare money could go towards keeping AB up online |

I've been to Maelstrom Games about a month ago and tbh wasnt that impressed. I'm not sure that they could handle a bash in terms of size required plus the gent behind the counter wasnt very helpful even though I spent near £50 with them then. Good online store but if im that way I'm gonna go to WHW. |

I had heard from 3 GW store managers that GW were looking at changing the way independant internet retailers sell their goods(IE the 25% discount common online). One thing they mentioned was if the store had a physical store with a gaming/hobby area they would benifit from a greater discount (probably upto 25%) than a store based in a persons garage/lockup/warehouse etc (two managers mentioned no discount for them as a possibility). Whether Maelstrom have gotten on board early with this or their games room is just them advancing the hobby I don't know. I'd like to be wrong as I have my favourite online retailer who I buy from all the time. |

I'm spending most of my gaming coin at Maelstrom these days. Personally I'm very impressed with the new building so far. For those that have seen the new site in person, that whole block on the right hand side, that's currently inaccesible, is going to be their bar and gaming rooms. That's a decent amount of space. I've found most of their staff to know their thing and to be very helpful. It's just some of the part-timers who seem a little surly. |
