Played my first game last night, against my step son who surprised me by saying he wanted to be Genestealers - when he'd first seen the box he wanted to use his own (Power Armoured!) Marines! We played Mission 1, Suicide Mission, and I was very cautious, slowly moving forward and setting overwatch. My Step Son showed that he's quickly grasped the tactics to win using Genestealers, by swamping the area that I needed to flame with 'Stealers whilst I was being so slow to get to the objective room. Although his attmepts to get to the rear of my Termies were thwarted by a rear-guarding, Overwatching Termie (I must have killed about 10 Stealers in a row, at which point he nearly gave up on the game all together), I couldn't repel the sheer amount of Stealers he'd put near the objective. One by one the Termies werer taken out, till all that was left was the Flamer Termie, who got Assaulted from every side by a massive swarm of Genestealers! I'm now trying to persuade him to play the mission again, with him using the Terminators, but he's reluctant so far...

hehe, an interesting point to note is that in the 2nd ed mission book the terminator player has it distinctly easier than he does in the 3rd ed missions that appear in both... |

Not really because this is 3rd edition and no one cares for 2nd edition. All hulkers really love is first edition and now maybe 3rd, but 2nd edition was a bit of a washout in comparison. |

Yeah we don't like to talk about second edition... ![]() First edition was brilliant untill they over complicated it with Genestealer hybrids and psychic power cards. The new psychics are much easier to play with. |

yeah, had read somewhere that second edition was a lot easier for marines than first, and that third went back to the difficulty of first, which makes sense

I more meant that if GW themselves where willing to even imply something was bad about 2nd edition that it must have been bad. |

Let us speak of 2nd ed no more, for it is the way of the heretic and the unbeliever! It's great to see all the fan based rules that are coming out for third ed though, just like back in the old days. You never really got that with the edition that we shall not speak of. |

Got it today, even though there's zero likelihood of me having a game anytime soon. Regardless I'm pretty keen on possibly building a 3D board |

Yeah it's not quite the same but it does work surprisingly well...just as long as you don't cheat. ![]() Basically you control the marines and the stealers rely more on running towards them and ripping them apart. It works well but the stealers lose some of the alien intelligence element because it effectively becomes a meat grinder. It's good for picking up the rules though and practice against real opponents. |

Lol nice Lars, I've almost convinced my better half to try out a game. If I can just find a table in my house big enough to fit mission 1 without removing computers or something
