Hullo chaps! It's me, AWOL, and I dragged one of my friends out of the depths of lurking - Dullmohawk. Since he got his hands on The Battle For Vraks and another of our friends had the space for a table, we decided to make some terrain, so we could play the scenarios in the book. My cadians will be standing in for the Death Korps until I finally win the lottery and becomes able to afford some actual DKOK models, and Dullmohawk are working on some traitors with the torsoes from FW. I'll let him introduce himself later. Presumably, you know me, but if you don't my log is a good place to start. *shameless plug* ![]() But hey, let's have a few pics so you know who you're dealing with: DullMohawk (on the left, in the red/white/black shirt) and Andy, our friend who has enough room for a table. ![]() And me: ![]() Now, there isn't as many pics as I'd have liked - a lot of them turned out to be utter [Not on the floor please]e, but of course I only spotted that when I got home and saw them on my laptop. Anyway, we wanted to get this started, so here's an overwiew of what we've done so far: ![]() As you can see, there's a trench in the works. Here's a closeup of one of the sections: ![]() When finished, it'll have four sections and be able to span the width of the table. There ought to be room for 10 men with a heavy weapon in each. There's some mood-setting terrain too: ![]() And some more open fortifications: ![]() And finally, to cap off this little opening post, our centerpiece: ![]() Eventually, it'll be a defiler who's been hit by a melta trying to climb over a wall. There's a huge melted hole in the wall and some melta-damage on the defiler itself, but those pics turned out horribly, of course. Basic thought is that some panicy guardsman used two or three meltas to burn through both the wall and the defiler, and then promptly ran away. Hopefully, the next batch of pictures will turn out better than these. |

cool, why is the defiler nothing but metal? did said guardsman somehow drop fairy power spray over the entire model as well? |

Hehe, it's not done. Eventually, it'll be an Iron Warriors defiler, so it seemed like the best idea to just go nuts with drybrushed metal for starters. |

Very much liking the Defiler idea that you've got there! How will you be representing the melta hit? Using a lighter I presume? |

Yeah, most likely. It's not really evident on the picture, but I'm pretty sure AWOL already took a flame to it(and the big hole in the wall). It'll look awesome when we're done painting it, promise! Next up on the vraksian front will be mortar/artillery pits and some communications trenches. Any suggestions are welcome! |

Only just woken up, and this threw me into spasm!!!!! Anyway, great looking boards. I like the raised earthwork trenches. One idea for a section could be a breach? Easy to model it as though either a large dozer or explosion had taken it out. This board also screams out "minefields" ! Looking forward to more. Edited by Digits, 23 Aug 2009, 09:14 AM.

We'll most likely look at minefields today at the weekly gathering of nerds in Noerrebronx(home of the andy-panda-man), as they are rather essential to any trench-war board. I like the breach idea, as it sounds relatively simple, and therefore doable. I'm thinking trench-sections as we've done until now, only with big craters in them and body-parts lightly strewn over it with a light hand. |
