If you have played the new supplement share your thoughts. Then, tell me why you didn't post a batrep int eh Battle for Ammoriss!?! I played a big game of it at my local. We used way too many objectives, and the opening of the game was slow going. I also focused way too much on popping Bastions instead of simply touching them. Also, the board looked themed by the very nature of the game. The defenders have the initial advantage, but the easy way attackers can claim objectives helps balance out the punishment the attackers are going to take. Despite the horrendoous losses, if I remember to simply touch instead of break bastions the game is winnable to both sides. I see this as a game like Apoc. You need to pre-arrange the game and make sure you are not dealing with jerks before playing. The rules are very open to abuse. In addition, this will encourage people to get and use units that are not "optimal" in traditional 40K. That is the main reason I think supplements like this one are a good thing. It is a chance to break down the rigidness (boring repetition) of people's army lists. |

I didnt play it (my opponent didnt show), but my mates played a game of it that was supposed to happen at the same time. From the looks of it, although the defenders won, the attackers get a better chance of winning, due to getting to choose the board edge they all come on from and other things. The attacker's stratagems seem better as well, although it is probably just my lack of tactical knowledge that makes the defender's ones seem pathetic (although i did plan on having the bastion mounted battle cannon) |

Had a chance to play a game today actually at a local store, each team got 16000 points using planet strike and Apocalypse rules each and i have to say the first turn went against us... having half of our deepstirkers end up on the wrong end of the board .... damn there 4+ rolls. It felt the the attacker's defiantly had the advantage after the first few turns. Due to fact the attacker only has to be contesting an objective to gain the point for there team. But the defenders can keep the upper hand by trying to thin the attackers out eg the defenders today managed to put 50% of our initial strength away from the fight the only problem was they tried to hold all 8 objectives rather then picking 5 and cutting us down as we came in. The interceptor guns and the Kraken shot thingy is quite um rude to poor drop pods and there passengers. Also the tactic of reducing moral and forcing your opponent to take moral checks came in quite handy . with Ld reduced by 3 there were 40% of the defending players guard forces pinned during their first turn, it also made it even harder for the guard players to issue orders. O and i do have to say a suicide librarian in a drop pod with a vortex grenade is quite..... destructive manage to throw it on 4 dreadnoughts on the first turn it ended up taking out 8 dreadnoughts, techmarine, 10-15 stormtroopers and quite a few guardsmen making enough room for my 3 squads of terminators, landraider with chapter master and honor guard, land speeder squadron, to flank march and take 2 objectives.

now forgive me if im wrong, but is this meant to be played at apocalypse level only? because if it is i see no need to buy it, as games over 1500 points bore me if i dont know my opponent well and we dont both know the rules well... |

Foxman, I encourage you to write up a quick Batrep for this game and place it in the Battle For Ammoriss Imperial thread found here: http://s3.zetaboards.com/The_Ammobunker/topic/7222318/1/#new All you really need to do is specify a Warzone, which sides were fighting (i.e SM/Imps vs. Chaos/Eldar/Orks) and tell me who won for the points. At this point, Planetstrike is worth +5 Control Points, and Apoc is +10, so you will have earned +15 without even adding anymore detail. If you don't know much about the Battle for Ammoriss, check out the sourcebooks here: http://www.box.net/shared/8lnb73nd2l Back on Topic- I think Planetstrike and Apoc will work pretty well together. Both are a pretty loose "rules" system anyway. I wouldn't recommend playing either as a pick-up game, because they are very open to abuse. I agree that the advantage is with the defenders early on, despite the Firestorms. As the game plays out, it shifts more to the attackers. Let's chat about Stratagems: -As a defender, the Trench Works Stratagem is a no-brainer. Take it everytime. -I wasn't really that impressed with the special Ork Stratagem, but I would need to read the specifics again. I think we used it wrong in our game. -I also found the Smoke Screen Startagem for the attackers to be useful, along with Dawn Assault. Both were relatively cheap. - The Double Firestorm Stratgem seems like a good idea, but I found it to be not that cool. Firestorms do jack-all against an entrenched opponent. |

I have to agree the double firestorm is useless, and that apoc and planet strike will work great together but i also believe planet strike works well in small games gives a change to the standard force org. I am actually going to be playing a few games over the next few weeks as i sort my army list out for an upcoming tournament so i could post most of them up for points i guess. And chaplain Cassius is soooo freaken over powered in low points games when you throw him into a termi assault squad with lightning claws. Edited by Foxman, 20 Jul 2009, 10:40 AM.

you get #of objectives +D6 large blast markers to drop on the defenders before you drop in, for 1 point you can take Scorched skies? i think and get 2D6 instead of 1D6, but i found that they miss or the wounds get saved by the trench networks stratagem units count as being in cover thus getting a 4+ cover save? or 5+ cant remember. eg huddling in trenches as the enemy throws down massed firepower taking few casualties then rising up and smashing drop pods with interceptor guns and kraken shots....... i hate deep strike jammers. |

In the game I watched, the attackers had used their Nid stratagem to put some trees on the table, and then argued that they should still be there after having a firestorm cover the forest entirely. |

I saw a game where somebody won by completely destyroying his opposition with firestorms before either of them had a first turn. lol. |

Just one firestorm stratagem...? Or was there more? If it's the first (and legal), then yeesh... bad luck for the defender! If it's the second, give that player a clip on the back of the head. On another note, I'm really quite taken with the book since I got it at the weekend, so some bastions and other assorted defence-related shenanigans are on the cards... |

I agree with you Foxman, I actually think Planetstrike might be more fun in smaller games than in the huge games. We had 4K on each side, and 6 objectives. It was a bit much really. The game flow would have been speeded up and more enjoyable at something closer to 3 objectives. Admittedly, I'm a fan of smaller games in the first place. |
