And unlike Blood Bowl i can figure ways to use the figures for other things. Grind plays great so this saves me making my own board.

Looks like the size is right, but we're trying to confirm it at the moment. One of them seems to be like a jack we've seen previewed for next year which is why the suspicion is they are the same size.

This might actually be the tipping point for me to start playing around with some Warmachine stuff......

there is a lot of warmachine stuff out there that intrigues me but i would never really get into... thing is i probably need to take the plunge and buy a 'jack before i decide on that front :P

if i end up liking an actual jack model then i would do warmachine... but as it is im undecided lol

Cool, however must ask where i can buy warmachine models as the privateer press webstore doesnt appear to stock them, though they do have a plastic action figure.

I just looked at the board and it seems that the squares are about 2" squares which means that the bases are not 30mm ones which i think means that they are the right size

Arcane Miniatures, Wayland Games all sell them in the UK. If you're going to shows then Forge Games have the most stock. Probably the best places to get them over here at the moment.

From what I can see these look to be based on Khador and Cygnar jacks, but I reckon I could use the Cygnar ones for Mercs as well. If they are full size then I'm very happy.

Cryx are sneaky as anything. They have limited heavy jacks and a LOT of magic so very tricksy and about screwing up your opponent. Also lots of undead so they cause fear and don't run away which is useful.

They have bits of shooty - but it's bile cannons and spells. I'd say fairly light, but they can pack a big punch.

There's two main sides to Cryx at the moment - Bane troops or Undead Pirate fleet.

Because of the original rules for this used all the Warmachine factions if the jacks in the box are Khador and Cygnar then I'd expect expansion packs with the other factions in them at some point. It'd make sense.

And yeah they are the same scale. Matt Wilson posted over at PP forums

Regarding the history of Grind:
The original publication in No Quarter #10 (I think?) was an experiment to test proof of concept. Response was great, and we knew there would be an audience for a sports-hybrid game (that's what the suits in the video game industry call it) featuring our steamjacks. This put us on a very long, exploratory development course to decide how we wanted to approach an actual Grind product.

Much consideration was given to whether or not this would be a hobby game (eg. you need to assemble and paint the figs) or a more traditional board game, playing right out of the box. In the end, we felt that we have two great hobby games, and what we needed in our line was something that was essentially, ready to go.

This Grind is not the Grind that you saw in NQ, with the exception of the basic concept of the game; two teams of steamjacks battle it out in a hazardous arena as they fight to move a giant spiked ball into the other team's goal. The game system in [new] Grind is very different, using our Action Dice concept as the foundation of the game. It moves fast, games last about an hour, and there's a ton of dynamic action and movement as you maneuver all over the board chasing that ball. What you won't see in the game are warcasters, spells, and a lot of the 'magic' of the Iron Kingdoms— this is pure, distilled aggression starring the steamjacks...oh, and a whole boat load of weapons...

And that's part of what makes [new] Grind so cool. A major reason we opted for the non-hobby game was that we wanted to allow some aspect of customization in the game. When you get ready to field your team, you get to choose which two arms each of your jacks will be equipped with, and each arm is a unique weapon with a special effect that is employed during gameplay. So, you won't have any record-keeping or pencil pushing in this game, but you do get to load out your team with your favorite weapon combos, meaning that you'll get a lot of replay value out of this game as you explore all the myriad pairings of arms that you can put on a 'jack.

As Kevin indicated, these 'jacks are on the same scale as the WARMACHINE figs. We considered making them smaller, but something in our hearts just wouldn't let us do it. We wanted to see these things have a presence on the tabletop. That said, these are not 'hobby miniatures'. They have been designed be put together without glue, and to be able to allow the arms to be swapped in and out of the shoulder sockets. They have not been designed to be compatible with WARMACHINE, nor do we recommend using the existing metal miniatures in Grind, as playing the game depends much on the customization ability of the figures. However, you should always remember that once you get the game in your hands, its yours to do with as you like. I know we're looking forward to seeing some of the more industrious players out there actually customizing their teams with paint jobs and conversions. We can't stop you, nor would we want to.

Grind releases in October. We hope to have some stuff on display at Gen Con, but it will not be for sale there. (We'll have lots of other stuff, though...)

See y'all this summer!

They look sharp for plastics. I might consider this as an entry point for Warmachine.
