WiganUltra: It's a giant cylon spaceship, playing a similar role to the human battlestar 'aircraft carriers in space'. They look quite sinister but turn out to be full of naked copies of Grace Park, which is nice. I was reading 'The Third Policeman' when I registered on Portent many moons ago. De Selby is a great philosopher, or idiot, depending on your point of view. |

I'm not entirely sure where exactly I came up with the word 'illuminator' for my user name. I go by Darth Potato on the other forum I populate the most, the B&C (being a Marine fanatic it works out quite well). Considering I thought 'Darth Potato' was stupid but funny at the time I registered on the B&C, I felt I needed to change things up for newer sites now that I have some common sense in me. As for the avatar, it's Don Cherry. I think the guy is hilarious and have read his book on all things related to the game I love most - hockey. Simply the best game on this planet and I've been fondly attached to it since birth, sorry all you soccer/football (whatever you wanna call it) guys. Again, just great to kick back and read all these stories 'behind the name', you guys are great.

Hmm, nice topic, some fun answers too. Also a shout out to Lex as I'm a fellow EVE-Online player/addict. My name, well, it started from playing Counter-Strike, my first foray into online gaming back in about 1998 or around then (whenever CS1.3 was the hip and happening latest version). Originally I chose Vectis, which is the Roman name for the Isle of Wight, where I'm from. But it proved rather hard for people on CS to actually spell. ![]() So, being a fan of naval history and fiction, I chose Gallows Bait - which is a term historically used in an insulting or derogatory way, to imply that someone is the kind of scum that is bound to end up hanged on the gallows for some crime or other. I've used it a lot since then, although for MMO games I've generally picked characters from books as I prefer to have a more realistic name that I can role play around. So from Alexander Kent books I'm currently Francis Inch on EVE Online (used to be Valentine Keen but I quit the game and sold him at one time), but also in a nod to the GW Drachenfels novels, I've also got a character Genevieve, though her surname wasn't available so I stole one from Second Life (an altogether different MMO experience lol), so she's Genevieve Bluecoat. On very boring forums I may also register as AMcCoyUK, which is pretty fairly self-explanatory lol. Edited by Gallows Bait, 9 Jul 2009, 10:11 AM.

I love the Bender avatar and the one of the little squiggly cloud people shooting things. I lol irl everytime, no joke. Latin Poptart- because Conan was wrong- what is best in life is waking up next to a hot naked petite Mexican chick eating your poptarts and getting her crumbs all in your covers. Pretty straight forward, I'm sure most of you had guessed it already, honestly. Edited by latin poptart, 10 Jul 2009, 10:01 AM.

Mine is from an old RPG session. Werewolf:The Apocalypse (not this ...:forsaken crap these days). I played a "Glass Walker" (very urban and techno-hip werewolves) whose virtual form was a gleaming chrome crinos (traditional half-man/half-wolf form) and his 'online' handle was "the chrome god". Mis-speakings and misquotes lead to "chrome doggie", and then to chromedog. It also half-refers to my hair (silver-white), and an old adage "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" (mainly because by the time you become an old dog, there are no more new tricks left to learn). |

Ok, I'll bite. While working at an ISP in 2000 we had a MUD running for all teams - let us have tools that a lot of IM didn't so we could all chat, work, and generally be geeks. We got bought out and fired Dec. 23, and the company's assets sold. The purchasing company promised to keep us on if we'd just come back to work and keep the ISP running until they could pass out offer letters...but we had to change our user names in the MUD to something Business Appropriate. Being the oldest on my shift at the time,a fan of Zork, and prone to sneaking up on folks during my then overnight shift I got granted oldgrue since we couldn't have spaces at the time. Its pretty consistent over the forums I visit, so there's a fair chance any oldgrue you bump into is me. As for my avatar... I usually leave the darned things blank, but I found this in a dark corner of the internet and its cute. |

I'll join in as well. Many years ago, I was trying to create names for renegade marine chapters. I wanted something with fire in it. Back then, we had the Realms of Chaos books and the mutations table of 1000 mutations! I thought it would be cool to have a chaos chapter that was on fire. Literally. As in walking around with flames all over their bodies. For the name, I wanted something that would counter the evil nature of the renegades and thought of angels. That led to burning angels which then led to Burning Halos. That was shortened to BrningHalo because at the time, AOL limited the number of characters a screen name could have. I've used it for every online forum, social networking site, etc that Ive signed up for. Warseer, here, Bolter and Chainsword, WIP, Terragenesis, etc. My avatar is used because I play a Worldeaters army in my games of 40k. Thanks, Tom |

My username is the name of one of my Chaos Lords for my Warriors of Chaos army. It started off as Kragorael, then Kharngar (like Khorngor but with 'a's) then went to Khrangar. My avatar is a line from a song entitled Zydrate Anatomy from the movie Repo! The Genetic Opera, which is great by the way. Before that, I think it was Jack of Blades from Fable. My sig is mostly links to my various logs, and also a line from Invader Zim. Khrangar Edited by Khrangar, 16 Jul 2009, 04:54 AM.

Easy E is an old nickname from when I was a Salesmen. When you are in sales, it is a lot like being a jock in High School. Everything is full of testosterone and one-upmanship. therefore, everyone had a nickname. Since my name starts with an E, and I was pretty laid back compared to the rest of my fellow whack-job salesmen, so I ws nicknamed Easy E. It has stuck with me ever since. My avatar is a picture of my daughter that I foind funny. I use the same Username and Avatar on all of the Warhammer forums I am part of. My sig is pretty self-explanatory. I am a cheap skate, and I where that badge of honor with pride. If there is a cheaper way to do it, I will find it. |

Long, long time ago, there was this Finnish chap I knew. Everyone called him Kevin, but his real name was, in fact, Raimo. At one point, under perhaps the most dubious circumstances possible, he impersonated a member of the clergy with... interesting results. Time and by, someone made a rather brilliant joke, concerning the above situation should Kevin have impersonated a Chaplain of the Adeptus Astartes instead. Hilarity ensued, and a name was born. |

Realised I haven't done this yet! Username comes from a certain famous actor at the start last century, namely one Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin with whom I share a surname, but isn't related AFAIK. However, that wasn't possible to get that all on so it got shorted the first time I used it as a id. The 67 come from the fact I was apparently the 67th person to go for that and it kinda stuck. Avatar is my lysander clone, one of the best mod and paint jobs I have done I think. Though I could be wrong... |
